INCREDBILE match but Hewitt is too tough in 5 setters.

I am a Gasquet fan now, though, that's for sure.

And go Hewitt vs. Roddick!

Congrats Hewitt :D Very, very enjoyable match. Gasquet needs to get more physically fit.

I think it's wonderful to see Roddick, Hewitt, Safin and Federer together again. Kinda points out the weakness of the top 10. Nalbandian, Ljubicic, and Robredo already gone..........

Richard

Disappointing loss, but great fight and pretty good match overall which despite having a lot of UEs, had also many awesome points and great rallies.

A pity Richard's fitness let him down when he needed the most, still he hed plenty of chances to level the 5th set and perhaps win the match. Hewitt played the big points better and deserved the match, I'd love for him to make the final now from the bottom half.

Congrats Hewitt on the win and both for the fight and good tennis! :D

Not owning a tv I haven't seen much tennis besides when I went to the Open and when I can get to a television but having this one online to see was great - I saw it all! :D :D

I think both players played amazingly, Gasquet really impressed me with his shots. And Hewitt of course fought very hard. This was a very impressive match and both players never gave up. I though Hewitt would get it in straight sets judging by the first.. :)

I don't know how in the world Gasquet made that passing shot to save match point #2!!! That was sick!

We all know that he has a lot of talent. I wished he had played that loosely in the previous sets. He was so tight in the first 2 sets. He must have netted most of his passing shots. But, when he started cramping and he knew he had to shorten the rallies, he started going for his shots and made amazing plays.

But, what an entertaining match!

As great as Richie played, I agree. Hewitt is now 24-0 when being up two sets at the Open and is now 21-8 whenever it gets into the 5th.

Gasquet would have had to come up with an otherwordly effort coupled with a little luck to pull this out.

That's too bad Richard had cramps in the final set and that he was so tight in the 2 first sets, otherwise he could have won the match.

So much for the myth that Americans are only interested in American players.

I had to laugh when Ted or Tim (?) asked Jim Courier when the last time was that he heard crowds at the USO cheering so hard for a French person and Jim dryly responded "three hours ago." He was referring to them cheering for Mauresmo. Jim then went on to say that crowds can and do appreciate international players at the USO. So take that media!

I saw the first and last two sets and what great stuff. Congrats to Gasquest for some magical tennis, and get on a treadmill pronto to work on your fitness. Although Hewitt was a bit overshadowed in this match, I thought he played well considering his knee and I hope that he becomes a steady figure again in the top 10 - where I really feel he belongs.

This USO has had some incredible points and good matches. It has been fun.

Argh, so close and so far. It was there for the taking, Hewitt was at no moment much better than Gasquet. But his experience showed, especially in the first 2 sets where he showed up on important points, going at the net just at the right moment.

Richie was too passive in the first 2 sets, and was harshly punished. I don't think he deserved to be behind 6-4 6-4, there wasn't much between them.

Been a fan of Richie's since he knocked out Fed in Monte Carlo last year, but I must say I never thought he had it in him, guts, will, and fight! I was more than impressed. He gained so many fans in NY last night, and trust me, anyone who saw that save on MP#2, will never forget his name. I was hoping for a Fed/Gasquet final, so I'm still bummed out about that. Also, hats off to Lleyton for putting on a show, rising to the occasion, hitting some incredible lobs as usual, and hangin' in there when Richie was ripping those backhands in the decider. Look for Gasquet to make more noise next season.

well, dammit, does anyone have that saved match point? It's on the us open highlights video, but it's hard to see.

Thankfully I could record what I was missing from ES2.

If you want to see the mp rallies in better quality, then download this video.

If the website is correct the standard in the 5th set was very impressive: Hewitt 11 winners to 2 unforced errors and Gasquet 17 winners to 7 unforced errors and no double faults

Yep...it was a really good set.

I think it's wonderful to see Roddick, Hewitt, Safin and Federer together again.Yeah like 'the old days', add Muzza and Nadal.... top6 players of this era ;)
