Haas was mentally weak today, he didn't deserved to win. I wonder if there are still people who say that he is the best German player?! Mae?!

Who else should be the best German player? ;) Of course he deserved to win, Ginepri sucked on the important points in the tiebreak...

btw, Haas and Safin met also in 2005 Hopman Cup and Haas won it in 3... but okay, that wasn't an important match ;) Also the match in Hamburg this year on grass which Tommy won  ;)

I just hope Tommy can play better than today, then he has a good chance.
I hope for a great Match, they both always had hard ones :)

Former number 1 in the world against a former number 2 in the world, if this match isnt on Ashe Stadium and on national TV fuck America peroid, this match should be great, I hope the Hippo gets by Tommy, todays matches alone give Marat a big edge.

I think it will be on Ashe, but it will be played on the same day as Berdych/Blake which will probably get the night match.

I'll be happy with whoever makes it out of that quarter, but I'd loooove to see Davydenko beating Safin in the quarters.

Marat to win, He knows what he wants, and he plays better against top players.
Marat should have this one. To be honest,he is 26 years old, no more time to waste.......He is not a young kid,,,,,,, I just hate it when he dumps himself like a nut!!!

MARAT SAFIN and No. 14 seed TOMMY HAAS will be playing for the third day in a row, a significant test for both veterans. But Haas had to go to 7-6 in the fifth set to best Robby Ginepri, and Safin overpowered Ollie Rochus in straight sets, so the Russian will have a serious edge physically. It isn't often you can say that about Safin, whose chronically injured left knee will eventually be headed for surgery again. But if you are talking about pure ball-striking ability and an ability to win huge matches, he's way more accomplished than Haas is, winning the 2000 US Open and the 2005 Australian Open.

The Russian has had a pretty lousy year and didn't play particularly well in the US Open Series events, but he appears committed again, and once he gets on a roll, there are few men who can match him stroke for stroke. That's why he was able to take out Federer Down Under last year. The key to beating big Marat is getting him to move, which isn't easy to do if he's serving bombs. Haas might be able to do that for a set or two, but without his legs, he won't be able to sustain enough depth in rallies and will go down in four sets.

Safin did not have a gruelling match today, he should be alright for tomorrow. Good to see Marat keeping his emotions in check in tight moments

Haas is barely a fallen giant! How many majors has he won?

Safin had better win this one! I'm scared that he's getting too old to live up to his potential. He should have won 7 or 8 Majors by now.

I don't think this is the case. I went to the Safin/Nalbandian match on Sunday and while waiting for the ushers to let us into Amstrong I was talking to a friend about how Safin's been losing all year and just like that an American gentleman chimed in that Safin would do great if he got a Brain Transplant.

Then inside the stadium which was jamed packed my guess is mostly with people wanting to see Agassi becasue everytime they put the Agassi score on scoreboard during the change over they'd start cheering/booing and when he finally lost they started clapping for like 5 minutes (Ashe was of course sold out which is why they came to Amstrong). Yet during play the crowd was fully into the match and cheering for Safin. Everyone even stayed around to hear his on court interview.

The fans who come to the open know their tennis!!!

what? of course not. the grandstand was pretty full and almost everyone was behind marat. plus, the 'typical american' was most likely watching ginepri and then davenport on armstrong.

everybody said safin will win against haas but everybody forgot that 's safin.
if he is "brain off", haas is in QF
so, now i prefer to not predict the score but i support him

Haas in five. (But I said Ollie in five in R3  )
Wow, this tournament is getting somewhere. SF lineup of AO 05 + Nadal. A pity that Nalby had to be taken out.

Marat. because he simply CANNOT get this close to playing Roger and then not do it. I WON'T ALLOW IT!

My fondest dream is for Marat to beat Roger in the semis again. He at LEAST has to give himself the opportunity to do so, right? RIGHT???? :)

Seriously. PLEASE Marat. Don't go to lunch during this match.

Thank you.

Where the hell did you get that stupid idea?! His match with Nalby the other day in Armstrong was a full crowd. The only reason his match w/ Rochus was empty was that he was playing w/ Rochus.

And besides, if you have no idea, the Safin/Haas match will be played on AA. So there...that answers your groundless assumption.

Without the rain delay yesterday, Marat would have won easily. After 5 touch sets against Ginepri you can't expect to play at your best the day after.. I mean, you need lots of power to win against someone as Marat.

But now it looks more equal to me... But it's probably going to be Marat in 4 or 5 sets, even though I seriously hope the best for Tommy.
