Awesome effort from Andy, Gonzo was on fire in the 2nd and 3rd sets but he stuck it out, and played an amazing 5th set :worship:

Great chance to reach the QF now, plays the winner of Kubot/Davydenko.

Nice to see he's finally winning 5 setters as well :yeah:

Oh and also, did anyone see the mess Gonzo made of a racquet in the 5th set? Truly magnificent, Safin would've been proud of it

Not true. The stats say he played okay for the last two sets but Murray played very well.

Feña was out of his mind in his last serve game. :haha:

The winner he dedicated to the umpire (Lahyani) was hilarious. Highly entertaining stuff.

Nice numbers for Murray. 48 winners to 25 UE's. Gonzo converted 5 of 7 BP's and Murray only 6 of 17.

Murray just too constistent and stronger mentally than Gonzo. Gonzo was really hot in sets 2 and 3 but you just cannot keep up that style of play over 5 sets and that was proved in the end.

It's only a matter of time before Murray is top 5. He still has the body of a little boy; imagine what he'll be like when he grows into a man. This time next year he will be challenging Federer and Nadal.

Kind draw? No way. Gonzo in third round is pretty much the toughest third round he could get. Davydenko in next round is also tough.

Thats what I have been saying (about the filling out). If he can play like this without a serve and as a skinny runt, injury is all that can stop this boy going very high (And poor clay form ;) )

That's a very good point. There have been a lot of people on this board (and elsewhere) who have been very dismissive of Andy Murray. I read an interview with Federer earlier this year and he was asked to name three players who he expected to be his main challengers to be in the next few years. Murray was one of the ones he mentioned. I'll go with his opinion!

As for murray Davy beat him quite easily earlier in the year so it will be tough - He has a knack for evening up h2hs though

Andy was extremely defensive and passive in that match and was in the middle of a slump. I don't expect him to be like that for the next match.

Actual proper analysis well hopefully:

First set neither man played brilliant stuff.

Very close second set but Gonzo edged it with some stunning play and noisy Chileans (I was annoyed at the time but not now). Third set Murray lost it a bit mentally and Gonzo kept extremely high level up.
Fourth again extremely close but key thing was Murray didn't let Gonzo have a bp on his serve (Mind you neither had Murray since first set) and some stunning play to break.
Fifth Murray was on fire and Gonzo couldnt respond I thought Gonzo played really quite well in Fifth except I think First serve percentage went down but some excellent shots and a brilliant final game close out (quite uncharacteristic for Murray in US hardcourt stretch Toronto onwards) got Murray the win. Did you see the Murray backhand shot to nothing? wow.

Also did Murray not use his Bh down the line shot or was that me? I think he could have had it easier if he had.

Murray also seemed completely out of it mentally in 3rd set, and I couldn't work out why he didn't get angry to get himself fired up, don't think he liked being not supported that much but he used it to his advantage at the end.

All this is just my opinion of course, but Go Murray!!!

Also I don't think he will let the Baggy let down happen again, because he has BG now and that time he didn't have a coach. Plus I've seen him play better than today as well and a lot worse (unfortunately).

About the Clay court stretch he had no coach for most of it I think he can play on clay but we will see.

It is correct if the original call on this 2nd serve by the line umpire was 'out' and the chair umpire overruled it and saw it in, it's first serve again because the whole point is being replayed.
