...this list is disappointing...any ideas who might get the WC?..hope not the Poles only..that would be so dull..c'mon people, why don't you give a WC(or a SE) to some charismatic player?
[btw:Thx for your post Super-Fabio, I thought the list will be released not sooner than monday ]

Disappointing? It's a Challenger with nine Top 100 players. And you call it disappointing.

Why don't you check out players list from previous years? These were really more into my liking and def. more exciting to watch. How about: Calleri, Chela, Beto Martin, Serra, Montanes, Zabaleta, Marcos Daniel, Monaco, Ramirez Hidalgo...should I go on? Maybe they just spoiled me, that's all ;)

I think I just did. ;)
Most probably I'll go there anyways, especially now that I found out Guille Coria's coming...(even though it's quite far from the place I live).
Too bad they didn't give a WC to another Guille C. as well =>seeing Cañas back on court would be such a treat

I hope that for you and us (fan of coria) Guille will be there bacuse with his injury it will be perhaps just but I'm confident it's a small tear of 5 mm so he will be ready to win this event :D

The entry list looks promising... Things can't be boring with Horna, Koubek, Coria or Zib. Nicolas Lapentti was in the top ten (6th I believe) some years ago, Gicquel has lately defeated Ferrero... Maybe Przysiezny will make another stunning run and trust me, he's got the game. I hope for Phil Kohlschreiber to go far in the draw, he's such a nice person.

I hope that everybody who goes to that lovely tournament will have some good fun. Especially greetings to one person going crazy about Christophe Rochus showing up (she knows it's about her... ;))

I bet there are worse events then this one, but somehow it's not consolating ;) Anyways, I believe some may be happy to hear who's coming this year, I'm not among them. Not saying those players stink, I just don't fancy watching most of them. Matter of personal preferences I guess...
And as of Cañas-wonder what other things he has on mind right now(other than playing tennis?)?I read he got a WC for Bucharest-but couldn't use it as he's banned till monday(1st day of Rom. Open). Then he said he'll play some challengers to get some ranking points etc. Why not playing them in Europe? But in this case it's too late anyways.
Probably forth WC get Grzegorz Panfil.
At the press conference yday I heard that our junior Gawron has a big chance for a WC - providing Beto Martin won't come (he still did not confirm his participaton).

Hihi..Looks like I'm so alone in my lack of appreciation for this list...Dijus,who you'd normally expect to play?Top300 players at best?Last year there was 9 top100 players as well, and in 2004 - 10 ;) Anyways, glad you like this year's participants, it'll be a nice event for you to follow :)
btw,
Why should Cañas play challengers in Europe?
And why not? That'd make him homesick or sthg?
Seriously,I don't know whether he should. I only asked whether he could. I would just like to see him playing, which would be easier if he came to Europe. That's all. No implied meaning hidden here...
Cheers

Don't go to the event, if you hate it that much. As for Cañas he doesn't have a ranking at the moment and there is a whole circuit in Latin America and they will give him WCs and it's not like he is going to be winning all of those challengers anyway, it's a common sense decision that he will play most of those events, if they are too easy for him, then he will move up.

In other words you are being selfish, then.

Excuse me, when did I say I hate it that much!?Fact that I'm not ecstatic about the entry list?Don't try to put in my mouth words I didn't say. Besides, why are you making such a big fuss of the fact I'd like to see Cañas. It was said lightheartedly, really no idea why you treat it as if I was criticizing him for playing south american events.
I checked my posts in here again to see what caused sucha harsh reaction of yours and telling the truth don't have a clue. Try to catch more distance to it if you please. Afterall we all have a right to express our points of view, don't we.

The thing w/ the WC is that Coria and Martin are initially given ones. If one of them doesn't show up, the card goes to Panfil, if both don't show up, the second one goes to Gawron. As for now it is official but last year for example the WC went in the very last moment unexpectedly to Chela.

Takuma, would you go to Szczecin if Cańas played? Anyway, I can recommend this tournament without doubts. No wonder they've won a prize for the best challenger recently. And the tournaments that I whined about the initial entry list and later I've been to, often later turned out to be simply great. Something likelast year's: "Train ticket to Sopot - 10 Euro, accomodation - 100 Euro, entrance tickets - 70 Euro, Florian Mayer's dropshot - priceless. Some things are priceless, the other you can have with Mastercard".

You are saying how weak the list is, as if to say, it's not worth going to go cause compared to previous ones it's poor. There are still enough good players to watch and Nathaliia has explained it very clearly albeit in a nicer way, why it's worth going to.

I asked why would Cañas play in higher level challengers when he is no position to do so? That is all, just to satisfy some selfish premise of seeing him.

Thank You Nathaliia, I also consider Szczecin Challenger a very nice event. That's why my expectations [entry list] were so high...not finding players I though might come made me feel dissapointed. That's why I straightforwardly posted what I felt. I would never expect I'd enrage people with it..Especially that I stressed out that it's all just about my personal tastes/preferences/feelings. Still got bashed for it.
Anyway,You r right about the fact that often when we don't expect much from an event, it eventually turns out to be great[this rule apply not only to tennis-that's what used to happen with most of my new year's eve parties.. ;)]
Oh, and GeorgeWHitler:I won't write any critical or not-appreciative-enough posts any more. Neither those that could differ from the majority's oppinion. Never-ever.
PS:I don't think the fact that 1 [selfish] person described its lack of enthusiasm might make other people change their minds about going to a tennis event.
End of story

Zabaleta: good draw for him, Zib is not playing good and the main problem is Vanek; but I think he can do a good tournament here (SF or more) :yeah:

Coria: If he plays like the past, he will be the champion or....semifinalist (Zabaleta :p :rolls:) . (Economidis, !!!)

Junqueira and Roitman: to play agains each other in 2rd.......maybe Coria in QF.

Aranguren: bad luck in the draw, Lapentti in 1rd........ :o

Guzmán: he is one of the best argentinian players, (he beat Berlocq in Umag), if he plays good he can be SF or more...

Vassallo: hard match against Bollelli, but maybe a SF.... :D

Massa: C. Rochus is not a good player in this moment, he can beat him, the second round maybe is more difficult (Minar or the polish) but I imagine him in QF...

An argentinian will this tournament (8 players) , we are in all quarters..+

Guzmán-Vassallo

not really more pathetic than how YOU roam these boards day after day, never posting ANY tennis comments at all, until Coria loses....like a confused and mentally diseased vulture.

its frightening. and if you ever try to harm him, we have authorities watching on this board to be sure you are put away.

Can someone please tell me has Michal Przysiezny delt with the problem with his right leg ---> http://tennisinsight.com/player_activity.php?player_id=339 <--- beacause of which he retired his last match two weeks ago?!?

If he's healthy, then I think of playing at him tomorrow vs baaaad Ivo Minar.

Any info, please!

Coria's loosing streak continues in Szczecin

No. 3 seeded Guillermo Coria once more lost an opener, this time at $150.000 Pekao Open Challenger in Szczecin. Coria lost the night session's match of the day to well permorming Romanian, Razvan Sabau 3-6, 7-5, 6-4.

The match had an unusuall beginning. Both players couldn't hold their service games until 8th game of the opening set, when Coria finally hold his serve to take the 5-3 lead. While serving to stay in the set, Sabau wasn't able to hold his serve on the first set point, when Coria hit back a magnificent dropshot to close up the first set at 6-3.

When everything was looking good for the Argentine and when it seemed that he finally found his confidence and rythm of play, Sabau took an early unexpected 3-0 lead, being two breaks up in the second set. At 4-1 for Sabau, Coria started playing better again and successfuly came back to level the game 4-4 and then 5-4, after holding his service game.

Once again Sabau was in trouble, but managed to save four match points and tie the game at 5-5. After that, the Argenine was struggling with his own service game again and lost it to 0, netting the return at the first set point afterwards and lost the set 7-5 on Sabau's serve.

The final set had a similar beginnig as the second one, when Rumanian took a 3-0 lead after Coria double faulted once again (8 in total). Sabau being up a an early break, successfuly continued his run to victory over much more experienced rival, and holded his service games to close up the final set 6-4, after Coria's easy backhend ended up in the net.

Despite 8 aces and 18 breakpoint chances, Coria was able to convert 9 of them but couldn't roll to the second round in Szczecin.

In the next round, unseeded Razvan Sabau will face either Italian Leonardo Azzaro whe defeated Konstantinos Economidis of Greece in the earlier match (4:6 6:3 6:4 ).

„The balls have been very slow today and it was difficult for me to play them. But i think I played well in the most important moments, when i needed to." - said Coria. I'm dissapointed that I couldn't take advantage of match points i had today. My play let me down in those important moments.”

„Sabau was playing well today, he was better than I was. My injuries were not a factor of the loss today, while quick movement on the court cost me a lot." - Coria added
