Nalbandian leading 4 games to 3.

Pink Panther
02-06-2004, 03:47 PM
Just looking at the scoreboard, looks like Arazi is playing pretty well.
Yikes, first double-fault for Nalby. :(

Pink Panther
02-06-2004, 03:51 PM
Arazi breaks! Hicham leading 5-4.

Pink Panther
02-06-2004, 03:57 PM
Right, seems like nobody cares, but Arazi just won first set 6-4.

02-06-2004, 03:58 PM
I care! Go Hich, make this a competitive tie. You must unseat Nalblandian somehow (I spent a long time thinking up that pun, I really did - it's almost in tangerine's wittiness league).

Pink Panther
02-06-2004, 04:00 PM
And Arazi breaks again, leading 1-0 in the second set.

C'mon David! :(

02-06-2004, 04:03 PM
Keep going! I do wonder whether the famously streaky Arazi can keep this up for another two sets, though...

Pink Panther
02-06-2004, 04:21 PM
Haha! :) David breaks again...leading 3-1.

Pink Panther
02-06-2004, 04:45 PM

Arazi Forced to Retire
Hicham Arazi was trailing David Nalbandian two sets to one in the second rubber when he injured himself and was forced to retire, handing Argentina a 2-0 lead. The score was 64 16 57 12 in Nalbandian's favour when he had to retire from the World Group tie, having strained his leg.

Arazi's injury leaves Morocco without a No. 1 player and will now make it difficult for the hosts to win.

More to follow....

02-06-2004, 06:29 PM
I wanted David to win, but not like this. I wonder what's the problem, and why he retired...I don't quite believe the injury, and it's weird that he reited...I guess we'll have to wanit and see what's wrong.

02-06-2004, 06:30 PM
aw bad luck...not morocco's year i guess.

02-06-2004, 06:39 PM
I guess not...if Younes and Arazi can't play tomorrow I don't know what will they do. I really hope Arazi is ok, and they can find a solution.

02-06-2004, 06:45 PM
No way... Morrocco is doomed!

Pink Panther
02-06-2004, 07:08 PM
...Arazi had to retire with an injury to his upper right leg after two and a half hours of his opening day’s singles against David Nalbandian, gifting Argentina the win 46 61 75 21, and effectively kissing goodbye to any chance the home nation had of winning its first World Group tie on Moroccan soil...

...“If I was likely to play in the doubles, I could have finished the match,” he said. “The chances of my being ready for the doubles are very slim.”...

Yes - remember how close the 2002 tie was with that amazing long doubles match? Mind you - Russia/Belarus isn't over yet. Marat will be very tired after that long match yesterday and then playing doubles today, - and Mirnyi will always fight to the last - should be a very interesting day for them tomorrow.

02-07-2004, 08:55 PM
I read an interview with Arnold today and he said that the best match he ever played was that one. I think it lasted 6h and 17m. Or something like that, he played it with Nalbandian against Safin...and I don't remember who else...

Safin and Kafelnikov - I think the 5th set alone was over 2 hours long. Can't quite remember whether the score was 18-16 or 19-17 in the end but whatever - it was pretty incredible, especially when you remember that Russia were pretty much a "two man" team in those days so Safin and Kafelnikov played all the singles matches as well :worship:

02-08-2004, 03:32 AM
yay for argentina!!!
i hope belarus wins...they will be a lot easier to beat than russia

02-08-2004, 07:10 AM
yeh, Belarus is an easier opponent!!
but yeh, i'm sooooooo glad Argentina won!!! good luck to the team in the quarters!!

02-08-2004, 11:32 AM
Yes - I'm cheering for Belarus too :) Looks like Max Mirnyi is about to make the tie 2-2, but I don't see Marat losing in the final match - so I'm afraid it looks like Russia next  Ah well - you can still do it boys - VAMOS ARGENTINA

02-08-2004, 06:17 PM
OMG!!! Today matches were soooo boring! But we finally won 5-0!
