The steady rise of Joshua Goodall

For the second Grand Slam in a row Joshua has come through qualifying into the main draw. If he could only find the consistency of his best results.

08-29-2006, 12:26 PM
Supposedly he is from Berkshire, that's round by me. :) Can't wait to see if he can beat Mathieu.

08-31-2006, 01:25 PM
Well, he didn't make it past Mathieu, but he put up a darn good show, taking a set off a player ranked about 200 places above him!

08-31-2006, 03:22 PM
Yeah. Pretty awesome. It's such a shame he couldn't win though, if he'd won it would have been a huge boost to his profile. It kind of sucks that nobody really said anything about it over here and they were just talking about the battle of the two past it brits.

09-01-2006, 09:23 AM
Nobody really said anything about it because it was on a non televised court. If it was televised more people probably would have talked about it

09-01-2006, 10:28 AM
Yeah but he's a pretty small player. I would have expected people to talk about it here at least.

This is a player who has risen about 150 places this year (up 70 ranking points) and while not achieving what might have been expected as a junior is obviously inproving

Hmmm...he is probably no better than top 200 material...but maybe he will do a Stepanek later on in his career :yeah:

11-27-2006, 12:57 AM
Josh has risen 135 ranking places from 386 to 251....and plays his last event of the year in the futures event in Czech F4

11-27-2006, 02:18 PM
His last event for 2006 is in the next week, Czech Republic F5. :D

And he could head to India in December.

02-14-2007, 10:32 PM
Josh played on so late in 2006 and has suffered for it so far in 2007.

Still he has made it to British No 5. Inside the top 215

02-16-2007, 09:45 AM
Plays doubles with Ross Hutchins...

They lost to Donald Young and partner yesterday :( Nevermind

02-26-2007, 12:24 PM
Josh plays a qualifer or LL at Wolfsburg challenger.

Follow it in the challenger section. Also seeded 3 in doubles.

Next week he heads to Jersey for 15K futures

02-27-2007, 01:39 PM
Josh's opponent will be Seden's Bjorn Rehnquist. Much lower ranked but has been as high as 147 and will be a realy tough opponent as Josh looks for his first singles win of the year

02-28-2007, 11:10 AM
Rehnquist won 7-6 5-7 7-6 unfortunately.

Josh plays doubles today with Czech Jan Mertl. Hopefully Mertl can drag him up!

03-02-2007, 10:36 AM
Josh and Mertl are thorugh to the Doubles semis at Wolfsburg thanks to a R1 win and the withdrawal of Ivo Klec who was one half of their R2 opponents.

They play their semi today at 3.30pm in Germany.

03-05-2007, 11:12 AM
Goodall is top seed at the futures in Jersey this week!

03-06-2007, 08:48 AM
Jersey 15K

R1: (1) Josh Goodall WR 213 v Conor Niland (IRL) WR 491

Much tougher than it looks. Niland plays a lot of similar tournaments to the Brits and knows their games well. He gave Baker a close match at Dallas Challenger qualies

03-06-2007, 04:40 PM
Josh prevails and gets his first singles win of the season.

I say prevails! He won 6-0 6-3. So really he creamed him!

03-08-2007, 09:41 AM
Josh squeaks past Aisam Qureishi in R2

R2: (1) Josh Goodall WR 213 beat Aisam Qureshi (PAK) WR 425 by 6-3 6-7(5) 7-6(5)

He lost to his QF opponent in Wrexham Challneger earleir this year so here's a chance for revenge

QF: (1) Josh Goodall WR 213 v Marco Crugnola (ITA) WR 279

03-08-2007, 10:46 PM
(1)Joshua Goodall (GBR) d. (5)Marco Crugnola (ITA) 6-4 6-2

Really finding his form this week!

(1) Josh Goodall WR 213 v Armin Sandbichler (AUT) WR 625

03-16-2007, 07:12 PM
Josh lost that semi final :banghead:

Went out in R1 of Sunderland futures :banghead: :banghead:

But it was because of injury. He withdrew and headed straight to LTA's Roehampton facility to get physio.

Should be fit Fot the Futures in Bath next week (19th March)

08-13-2008, 02:53 PM

Well , I might as well update this thread ! He,s now 26 in the last nine months he ,s gone from 462 back up to 243 almost entirely on playing in futures ! Hasent won a "main draw" match at challenger yet during this mini revival ! All futures wins ! Never would of guessed you could get that high lol ! Nothing wrong with that to me thought !

04-12-2012, 02:48 AM
have seen him in person several times and he is very hot. he, fleming, hutchins and davis cup captain leon smith are all studs

Back to back 10k Futures titles in Switzerland and Greece ! Would be so good for him to get a main draw Challenger win as these Futures aren't really going to improve him as a player !

Back to back 15ks in Ireland and Britain have moved him back up to 196 ! Close to the highest he,s ever been . Quite fortunate to get this high ! He should step up and only play Challengers for a while , I know he won,t thought , unless there at home .

Looks more and more like this will be Goodall's last year on the tour. There was a lot of speculation at Nottingham that unless he turns things round over the summer that it really will be it.

I don't think there is any doubt that he will call it a day unless things improve. Put simply he is 27 years old and needs to make a living, unlike some he can't afford to play Tennis as a hobby. Last year the Wimbledon wild card kept his head above water on the financial front but he surely won't get a wild card this year. His YTD prize money is $4,897 plus another €1,200 to come from Nottingham and Queen's.

maybe he can get a mdwc and play next week too in another british tournament, maybe qualies
if he gets a qwc instead...then i will really pray for him to qualify there. he really need the money and points at this point
i wish him all the best, he is a great guy
