Because Thailand could take care all players as the best so many players would like to join this tournament.Of course, but he should be hoping to play late into the USOpen, then just one week off, then Davis Cup on Clay in Russia, then Thailand on indoor the week right after? You would think he would want to rest before Madrid, I just don't think it's a smart decision for him at all.

He played a lot of touranments back to back in US in Feb and March. I don't see why u are worried about his fitness.

Plus u cannot just win at home and say that you are world no 5. He needs to prove he can play in others countries. Thats the reason he is playing here.

I know Shotgun, which is why this: Plus u cannot just win at home and say that you are world no 5. He needs to prove he can play in others countries. Thats the reason he is playing here.is total :bs: ;)

As for fitness, I think you are underestimating the strain that flying halfway around the world puts on the mind and body. It's just an unnecessary tournament for him as most of his points are coming from optionals anyway.

The article is plain wrong, he hasn't withdrawn because of an injury, he's just playing another tournament the same week.

I am watching the news and there is a state of emergency now in Bangkok , Thailand where military tries to take over the power or something like that so the question opens if the tourney will go on or will it be cancelled ?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060919/ts_nm/thailand_dc

BANGKOK (Reuters) - The Thai armed forces and national police chiefs have set up a commission to decide on political reforms after troops and tanks took over government headquarters on Tuesday, a statement on television said.

The written statement relayed by all television channels, said the armed forces and police were in control of Bangkok, which remained peaceful, and appealed for calm.

If som1 has commited here, now after a possible cancelation,he can't get a WC in Mumbai,eh??? :(If the tournament is canceled, the ATP would probably lift the "one tournament a week" rule and let players entered in Bangkok accept wild cards into Mumbai or Palermo or challengers. (The players could also play qualifying or sign in for any main draw alternate spots that open up, but I doubt that any players would choose those options and just take the week off instead.)

I don't know about Palermo, but all the wild cards in Mumbai have already been assigned to countrymen.

September 20th, 2006 - Immediate Release : STATEMENT FROM THE ORGANIZING COMMITTEE OF THE ATP THAILAND OPEN BANGKOK THAILAND

Recent events in Thailand over the past 24 hours have raised questions about the ATP Thailand Open, due to commence September 23, 2006.

We would like to announce that the Thailand Open will go ahead as scheduled. As proclaimed by the military itself, the coup which took place on the night of Tuesday September 19 is a temporary measure in the lead-up to government elections in an effort to restore democracy.

The military has stressed that it is only an interim administration set up to ensure free and fair elections in November.

The Thailand Open organizing committee assures players, officials and visitors that Thailand remains a safe and peaceful country, and we warmly welcome you.

We will continue to keep you informed of any developments, and we look forward to seeing you at the event.

Vice-Chairman

Speaking from experience (coming from a country laden w/ political problems), coup upheavals doesn't get violent. The military would take over just one building/place, and the rest of the city can do business as usual. This coup might end in just a few day's time, even before the tourney. But if it doesn't, there's no reason to worry about our players. I'm sure they will be taken care of. And I'm also sure that the military has no idea who these tennis players are so no problem there.
