And by beating Vinciguerra when everybody thought he was going to get spanked, that's even more ! :D

But Economidis has apparently been playing much better than Mathieu during the whole tournament, so it will be very tough today.
I took a look at the articles on the website and the guy doesn't sound very excited by Mathieu's game - if I get it right, he wrote before the match Mathieu is just waiting for the error of the opponent most of the time without building the point, and Vinciguerra's game is so much more spectacular (http://www.euro-sporting.it/challenger/view.php?id=5). :ras: Now prove him wrong one more time, Mathieu!

Just judging by the scoreline, I thought it was a poor final in Cordenons, but after having "read" the articles on the website, it doesn't sound too bad (the guy also says the semi-final win over Vinciguerra was surprising, but well-deserved, his comments about Mathieu sound pretty positive this time). I'm not completely sure because I don't speak Italian, but I think he also mentions how Mathieu repeatedly fell backwards during the final, like against Hewitt - looks like it is Mathieu's trademark ("... che hanno mandato in tre occasioni Montcourt con le gambe all’aria").
And I love the part about Mathieu's speech in a sort of Esperanto made of Italian, Spanish and French ("A seguire la bella cerimonia delle premiazioni con il simpaticissimo Montcourt che al momento del rituale discorso ha dato vita ad un mezzo show esprimendosi in una sorta di esperanto, fatto di vocaboli italiani, spagnoli e francesi"). Mathieu's charm worked again. :inlove:

I only know that Ferrero and Coria both had hard matches against Haase recently, I' m not sure if it was due to Haase playing well or JCF and Coria playing very poorly, but it could be a tough first round.

Somebody writes he's injured (leg injury, no more details), but I guess he had to give a reason for pulling out of Como, it doesn't have to mean it's something serious.

It's funny you say that, Adam, because he just wrote a short comment in the blog of another girl to say thank you. He's certainly well aware that he has more and more fans out there.

But Choupi said in the tournament forum that other names are in talk for the WC (Llodra, Henman, Johansson). I'm sure Llodra will get one. I'm afraid Mathieu will have to play the qualies if he wants to play there.

A few French newspapers or websites are mentioning the match, but always from Mutis' perspective because he's from Metz.
For example:
http://www.estrepublicain.fr/sportslo/2006100200223969.html

Yesterday, Mutis proved again in front of his buddies S. Grosjean, A. Clément and O. Patience that the tournament of Metz is special to him - at the expense of the French hope Mathieu Montcourt, who held him to be a player in early retirement. (I doubt Mathieu is underestimating anybody on this surface, but the article does sound a little bit like that. :ras: ) "Clever like a monkey", Olivier Mutis "sent him back to school" with his dropshots and precise passing shots and showed that he still has a remarkable "feeling for the ball". (...) Mutis' comments: "Montcourt's game, which is more offensive, suited me better than Karcher's. I enjoyed this match much more than the 1st round. (That I can believe, it looked like a walk in the park on the SB if you except the little choke job at the end of the 1st set - it should have been 6-4 6-2.) I didn't play too badly, without being great either. I served well. Against Ascione, I'll have to be better than today and physically strong."

Not an exact translation, but that's about what the article says.
It sounds pretty bad for Mathieu, the only good point for me is that he seems to play offensively, even though it's not very successful so far.

I agree, and his serve isn't that bad either so I don't get why he seems to have his serve broken so often. Mutis is ok, it's not the worst loss in the world especially on a quick surface, it's just annoying that it would've been a main draw in an ATP event, RG is still his only one :(

He's leaving today for Rennes, and then he will play in a row:
- Kolding (DK) next week

- 2 weeks in Korea (Seoul and Busan, both on hardcourt, I think)

+ Naples in Florida (I looked up, it starts on 20th Nov. and it's on clay - I don't really get the idea, it's apparently the last clay tournament of the season, so why back to clay just for one tournament in the US?)

 Frenchies, the only thing you're good for is having a cool national anthem :p

I tried but I couldn't get the bigger versions open either :(

I can just about make out Mathieu's big hair from the thumbnail

"La Marseillaise" is possibly the worst anthem in the world, Adam. The lyrics are so violent and bloody, I'm embarrassed every time I hear them.
Not even our anthem is good. :bigcry:

The pics on the website of Rennes work now for me. :o
This time I agree with you, Adam, Mathieu should consider getting an haircut.
I'll post them over there, Wiebke said she likes having a few Mathieu pics in her chat thread.

He'll play Minar in Kolding, btw.

I just saw them, his hair is funny

Minar is tough, I thought the tourney was on clay (if it was Mathieu would have a good chance)....on hard, Minar is definitely the favourite.

Just what I wanted :D  :rocker2:

:secret: I sent Mathieu an email today  (I hope his English is good :o )

How did you get his email address?

Wow, that was a great day in Rennes! :yippee:
Jo won the singles final and:
CARRAZ / MONTCOURT d. BEDNAREK / MOSER 6/3 3/6 1/0(4)

I wish Mathieu would come play some US challengers. Maybe I can go to qualies of Wimbledon next year.

Francoise got it :)

I'll be at Wimbledon qualies, he'll hopefully get into the MD automatically though, if he doesn't I doubt he'd even bother to play qualies

The e-mail address is in the Chat thread, Isa.

Well, even Jan Minar seems to be too strong for Mathieu. 5-0 so far and it goes horribly quick on Minar's service games.

Great!
But I feel sick, I just looked up Minar's profile and he's so weak. It looked like Mathieu was playing Federer in the 1st set on the scoreboard.

My scoreboard isn't working at all, I'll check it again later.
Please, Mathieu, do something! http://smilies.myioff.net/bitte.gif

Minar had BP to lead 5-3 and serve for the match :help: , BUT Mathieu managed to hold his serve.
4-4, allez! :rocker2:

Oh boy, Minar's service games are so quick! It must be the scoreboard. :o
Mathieu is serving to stay in the match -> :scared:

I should trust him more, easy hold, 5-5.

No, the girl of the blog is trying to contact him too because nobody knows why he skips Lyon. Apparently he isn't injured, that's all I know.

(I've seen Steve wants to close the player forums which are lacking activity, so be sure I will post every little piece of information I can find about Mathieu!)

Mathieu seems to have vanished.
The girl said at the beginning of the week he wasn't answering his cellphone and his e-mails and she would try again to ask him why he skipped the qualies of Lyon, but nada. She's still there since she's updating the pics of her blog (she's got some new pics of Rennes: http://mathieumontcourt.skyblog.com/26.html), but no news about Mathieu.

Maybe he decided to go directly to Asia to take some vacation since he's supposed to play the next 2 tournaments in Korea?

Jean-Christophe Faurel [FRA] vs. Mathieu Montcourt [FRA]
Ivo Klec [SVK] vs. Wayne Arthurs [AUS]

Goldstein & Healey [USA/AUS, 4] vs. K. Kim & H.-T. Lee [USA/KOR]

I think Mathieu will play in the French Championships with his team 'LAGARDERE PARIS RACING' but I'm not sure... According to the fft (http://www.fft.fr/cfem2006/?id=2143), he'll be there.
The championships will start tomorrow

Thanks for the information and the link, JC!
Mathieu is supposed to play the Challenger in Busan next week first (in Korea). He hasn't withdrawn yet.
But he should be back in France pretty soon anyway for the next matches of the French Championships...

A team event with the other Frenchies might be nice for him right now, he must feel a little depressed. And it looks like it's on clay!

I think he plays Busan first, find something else, Adam (my guess is that Chiudi played extremely poorly in that match.)

The French Championships are like the Bundesliga, they play every week, you can miss one match and play the next one. He'll probably play next week (unless he makes it to the final rounds in Busan, of course - allez Mathieu  ).
