“I think it’s unfair to name the tournament after the number one player in the world,” joked Thomas Johansson (Sweden), the 1999 Rogers Cup champion. “Next year in Montreal I think it should be called the Thomas Cup!”

Yeah, I saw the match too - AMAZING serving from Thomas, I think the commentators were in awe (and I could tell Bill Threlfall has a little bit of a soft spot for our guy, but then, who in their right mind wouldn't?) however, he needs to work on being more aggressive with guys like Baggy who really take it to the players. I think the best point of the match from Thomas was when he stepped back to receive serve from Marcos and released a stunning crosscourt backhand that won him the point - that's what he needs to do more often.

It was a very close match, so he shouldn't feel bad and it was nice to see his wife in the stands supporting him on! She's looking as lovely as ever, pregnancy suits her I think! :) However, one thing that worried me about Thomas' match was that he was getting down on himself far too easily when he missed a couple of balls, which put him off his stride - he should try to stay more positive and he'll be fine. :)

congrats to the johanssons! i was watching the pimpim match on tv and the commentators said that Gisela gave birth to the son at 3pm today :)

yeah i thought it's probably better for thomas to take the rest of the year off because he probably needs the break... he hasn't been doing too well lately.

next year, if he decides to come back at all, he might have taken advantage of the longer break and play a lot better, or gone rusty and lose a lot... we'll see. i do hope he still keeps playing for a few years yet though.

Thomas Johansson till final i St Petersburg
ST PETERSBURG. Thomas Johansson, som vann ATP-turneringen i St Petersburg i fjol, får möta tredjeseedade kroaten Mario Ancic i söndagens final.

Bevaka via mejl

I söndagens final möter du Mario Ancic, Kroatien.

I did not have any expectations at all for St. Petersburg, but as everything went so well with Lucas´ birth, I was in such a happy mood. And this has shown even on the tennis court.

I don´t know why I always play so well in St. Petersburg, I have good memories from here and I like the courts here. On these courts I can get a lot out of my game, not only on the serves, but also on the return and with my flat backhand.
I söndagens final möter du Mario Ancic, Kroatien.

Thomas was asked how much he and Mario still talk about the point where Mario hit Thomas eye and brought him that bad injury.
Thomas:"We are very good friends and practice a lot together in Monte Carlo. He was the person who called me most when I was injured and it was a very bad luck incidence. I hope it will be a fun match tomorrow. He has played great during this year and has a very good chance to get to the Masters Cup, what shows that he has played great tennis this year.

Thomas should sum up the year for him.
Thomas:"All seen the tennis, it was a very bad year, but of course there have been other things which made up for it. This final means a lot. I had a lot of points to defend here as I won last year. Then it feels great to see that you can compete with the other guys again, that you can play great tennis."

Hej :)

Just a short message to tell you that I was in Bercy and at the players hotel today.

We saw Thomas and Simon Aspeling arriving from the airport, so they arrived safely in Paris :) The nice thing is that they arrived with their street clothes, so it was nice to see them with different clothes (pair of jeans for both).

I didn't take any pictures because I don't like bothering players when they have their luggages !!

A couple of minutes later, both went to the stadium on foot, they didn't request an official car.Thomas got one of his racquet in his hand and some strings. Last year, Thomas was walking to go to the stadium as well, so he knows the way to go there

I think the Swedes are the most ecological players :) Because it takes only 5 minutes to go to the stadium with the car, and as they are not very popular in Paris, they can walk to go there.

Simon stayed a couple of minutes outside and sent some sms (texto), it was funny because he was sitting in front of us (with about 5 meters between him and us).

Then, they came back and we were still there

Lycka Till Thomas :bounce:

OMG :woohoo: OMG :woohoo:

I just got an interview with Thomas from a friend (this interview is from a Swedish radio station) in Sweden and still cannot believe the news ;) Thomas has got a new part time coach and this will be: Magnus Norman :bounce: :bounce:

Thomas said that he knows Magnus since such a long time and he is very sure that he still can help him a lot. Magnus won´t travel to all the tournaments (he won´t travel to Australia), but it is already sure that Magnus will follow with Thomas to Indian Wells and Key Biscaine. They haven´t talked yet about other tournaments...OMG, I am still so excited and happy :)

Then Thomas also said that Gisella and Lucas (so his sons name is definitely Lucas, as Thomas said the name himself) will follow with him to Doha and Australia!
Thomas is very optimistic for the new season and very motivated as well to be successful again! He sais he has only points to win, and this is a great chance for him!

round-robin

TOJO beat Y, Lu 60 61.

It is strange, it seems that Vince Spadea is at the same group with Tojo and Lleyton Hewitt. Since he defeated by Lleyton 63 63, he has been replaced by Lu.

Good for Tojo! Tojo can save energy to play with Lleyton tommorrow for achieving the quarter final. It would be a taugh game to TOJO again.

Cheers TOJO!! Come on!
