Marat and his 'former reputation'

Marat's surreal climb through the ranks at the Australian Open has meant that he's been getting alot of press coverage and articles. There has been alot said in the past few days about his former reputation of late night partying and alcohol which I have not really paid attention to in the last few months/years and how much he has changed after December in Monte Carlo. From the articles I've been reading it sounds like he was really into the flamboyant and high life. Is there alot of truth with this or are the press exaggerating? I'm just wondering out of curiosity.

No one knows Marat yet. I don't beleive most stuff about alcohol, but something must have set those rumours off. But I'm pretty sure that they are nonsense.
The media made a too big deal out off the hard work in Monte Carlo. He is a sportsman after all. And every sportsman is expected to work hard to get into shape.

I agree Vass.. I remember reading awhile ago when a journalist was asking him about partying/alcohol and he "went along" with his stupid questions to find out the journalist said in an article he drank/partied every day! (and during a very exhausting tournament). I suspect such irrational assumptions by the media as a cause to this 'hype' which effectively caused the 'hype' around the "transformation" in Monte Carlo.

Yeah its just a outmake thing from the media. You know they did give him this image, which is certainly not true.

Well I think all guys his age do partake in partying, booze, et al. It's normal. Roddick, Ferrero, and other new balls probably do it as well, but Marat gets the press for it because of his blonde bench. In reality, I do not think it is excessive, nor is it a large facet of his life. The media just likes drama and they'll create it from a speck of sand.

what I hate about Marat playing in Australia is that some asshole will always snicker about the "blond brigade" and natter on about how much that contributed to what was very nearly the demise of Marat Safin. Ok yeah he partied hard the night before the finals and he himself admited he didnt prepare adequetly for the match. The media is vicious nothing will change if they get a whiff of something and they'll run with it. I know Marat has mentioned many times that he likes women/parties/booze hence the party-boy reputation.
