A short message to Novak Djokovic:

Dear Novak,

Please come to Cincinnati. I was hoping to see you at Roland Garros, but I was only there the first Sunday and you weren't on the practice list so I didn't even get to see you practice. I was looking forward to seeing you in Queens, but then you got injured, and I was VERY excited to see you in Toronto because I was going to be there almost all week, but then you got injured, so as a favor to one of your first and most dedicated fans, please come to Cincinnati. I will only be there until Tuesday, so if you could come and just win one match, it would make her a happy girl just to get to see you play just once this year.

Love,
Jess

Good luck Novak in Cincinnati :D He played well in a first round loss against Gonzalez last year :) I'd love to see him go deep!

Fun draw.

Interesting test against Jarrko in the first round. Then Benneteau/Serra winner in round 2. Then Robredo/Gasquet/Malisse/Miryi winner. Then Ljubicic in QF. Then Nadal, Blake or someone else in the SF.

Novak is in the weakest Quarter in the tournament. Time to step up and take advantage of the luck.

savesthedizzle
08-11-2006, 11:58 PM
THIS IS THE WEAKEST QUARTER? fjalfjwlkfjwkljsf. I haven't looked at the rest of it yet... :p

The draw sucks. :p

(7) Robredo v Gasquet
Mirnyi v Malisse
Serra v Benneteau
Djokovic v (12) Nieminen

IF he gets past Nieminen *sigh* there are still Robredo and Gasquet in there...

But I think I may have seen the back of his head today as I drove past the venue (if he is here) :p

ezekiel

Hi Jess have a good time in Cincy :worship:

As far as the draw , It's fairly hard on surface. I watched Nieminen this week and he is definitelly beatable. His serve is pathetic and he moonballs a lot . So if Novak is in good form hopefully he should beat him. After that it's more interesting with Bennetau who looked much better than Nieminen and beat Novak on hard court at Indian Wells earlier in the year. That should be a match. After that It's Gasquet or Robredo and that is tought with Gasquet especially but very exciting with Novak having a lot of chance. All in all an exciting draw with lots of good matches to test :)

08-12-2006, 12:13 AM
Hi :) I'll attempt to have a good time. I'll have a better time if Nole wins :p

:secret: I'd have had a better time if he was in Toronto where I could have seen three of his matches instead of only one here in Cincy but he needed rest, so this is all I get. I'm scared it's going to be a loss. I didn't watch any of Nieminen in Toronto but was his draw so weak that he could just make it to the QFs without playing well?

I watched Nieminem play Italian qualifier Davide Sanguinetti yesterday and Jarkko really looked bad, he should have lost Davide had the crowd behind him but just couldnt capatolize on his match points in the third set tie breaker, I havent seen Nole play hardcourts in a while, the rest should mean Nole is in top shape and he really shouldnt have any trouble with Jarkko.

You gonna goto the qualifiers in cincy? I havent seen the list yet..I think there is a better field in cincy compared to toronto...why dont you stay for 2 of Nole's matches, I was looking on the cincy website and it seems the tickets are a fair bit cheaper compared to toronto.

Did you not end up going to the Nadal/Santoro doubles match? it was pretty cool, I watched the first set. I thought you wanted to see that Serbian guy..

 You could have taken a bus or something! Me and a few friends went up for like 3 days.

I don't really remember too much about the tournament itself. I had a good time. A negative thing was that half the grandstand is reserved seating so unless you have grand stand tickets you can only sit in the upper section. But the upper section is not at all bad, so it wasn't too bad. I liked being at the tournament better because we stayed a bit away from the site and took the metro and where we stayed there were plenty of bars and places to eat, etc. I had a good time. But don't get nachos there, at the tournament. They're awful :)

I don't know how much the USO is, but they probably have some sort of package deal for the first week if you check out the website :)

(7) Robredo v Gasquet
Mirnyi v Malisse
Serra v Benneteau

Not so bad, I would think his game matches up well against the likes of Nieminen. He can overpower him quite easily.

Gasquet will have a typical meltdown after a good week in Toronto, Robredo has been pretty poor lately and Malisse and Mirnyi don't really instill fear.

Malisse doesnt instill fear?

If he is on I would say he is definatly one of the toughest guys to play on hard courts in the entire ATP, lets just say I hope Nole doesnt have to play him, its not an easy draw for Nole, its time for him to show he can beat some good hard court tennis players.

So I watched Nole practice with Baghdatis today (for the second day in a row and it seems to be the plan that they'll practice again tomorrow.) They were having a great time, joking around saying, "If you break me now I'll buy you dinner" and such. At the end, Nole didn't want to play a TB so he's like "Can you break me now please?" and Marcos was like "You want me to break you?" and Nole was like "Yes please." They seem to get along really well though :) I'm glad Novak has a new friend.

And then...

at the end...

I met him. :inlove: And we took a picture together. And he's the sweetest most lovely guy ever.

No one knew who he was though. I had to educate the entire crowd who thought he was just Baghdatis's hitting partner. But yeah, the embarrassing thing is how I met him.

My mom asked him to sign our program and she's like "And this is my daughter Jessica who writes for your website" LOL and he like, was excited and was like "OH! HI! IT'S NICE TO MEET YOU!" and shook my hand. And I was like "Hey can we take a picture together later?" And he's like "Yeah of course!" so he packed up and then came over and stooped down to my level and put his arm around me and he looks SOOOOO cute in the pic. I look far less cute. But yeah, I'm in love with him and he seemed surprised that someone talked to him because really no one else there even had a clue. He looked good. I mean it was only practice but he looked great against Baghdatis when they were playing a set ;) Lots of lovely winners :p He was hitting nice and deep. Baghdatis applauded a few of his shots during the session.

Ummm the only thing a tad alarming was that he was complaining about the heat when today was an absolutely beautiful day and probably the coolest it will be all week. He *might* have been joking... I'm not really sure. I really hope he was.... so take that with a grain of salt.

But his game looked good today. The arm/shoulder didn't seem to be hindering him at all... I think he's good to go :)

And the sexay doubles team, if the rain-delayed matches don't F up the schedule.

Not so bad, I would think his game matches up well against the likes of Nieminen. He can overpower him quite easily.

Gasquet will have a typical meltdown after a good week in Toronto, Robredo has been pretty poor lately and Malisse and Mirnyi don't really instill fear.

Scott, it was exactly as I described. Viktor had to support him back to the locker room. A linesperson carried his bag up the stairs for him even. He looked REALLY bad. Like I said, it's hard to really see how serious this breathing issue is until you see it in person and see him gasping for air every single point. Anyway, when he came back for doubles after a nice long break in the AC, it was cooler and shaded and he was fine. He'll be fine to play his singles... hopefully it will be a tad cooler for him. :(

Good job nole! Does anyone know if Nole and his team know exactly what's causing his breathing problems? Because it has occurred a couple of times now and I'm a little worried

sorry if it's a dumb question or I missed seeing someone theorise about it somewhere else.

Radalek
08-16-2006, 12:11 PM
As far as I can remember it only occurs in very hot and humid conditions.Last year vs Monfils he barely finished it without colapsing but later during tournament he had no problems at all.It seems that nose surgery helped him but not enough so it's not just that...Today agains Serra he'll play in almost same conditions like yesterday so we'll see what happens...
Anyway his side of the draw looks more comfortable now with Gasquet and Malisse out.Serra shouldn't cause him troubles (barring health issue) and against Robredo it will only depend on Novak and Novak alone.Tommy can't beat him if Novak plays his game. After that it should be Ljubo and that will be one to watch.I think he's capable of doing that one too so then semis vs Nadal (Berdych is out so I think Rafa will get there)...Novak gets he's chance for revenge and prize will be finals vs Roger...is this dream or is it possible??I think it's very possible.Ajde Nole:))).

So how did he win ?

It actually wasn't humid. It rained yesterday and today was very dry... it was just hot and not particularly breezy.

Nole won purely by determination. He was gasping for air almost every point, but he fought for it and tried to fight through it. Jarkko was running him around and Nole would do it but the second the point was over he would be bent over or squatting down to catch his breath. There were long points.. he didn't give up on a single return game. His serve is what was giving him trouble. He was really frustrated with it from the first game through to the end. When he has trouble breathing it seems that's one of the first things that goes off because at night he served great in the doubles.

Some people who had never seen Nole play before actually were talking about what quality tennis it was and I wanted to say to them "He is actually 10x better than this!"

Few questions Jess :wavey: .
Was he gasping for air all from the beginning or that occured later in first set?
Did you have impression that he would quit if he lost TB?
I saw that he had large percent of points won on his second serve. How did that second serve looked like?
How would you rate his game (barring his low first serve %) from 1 -10 (if 10 would be his best...like that second set vs Gonzo at RG)?

Thanks in advance :)

Some answers!!

I'd say it was actually around the fourth or fifth game in the first set. It wasn't so bad at first. I was saying quietly to myself "Take a deep breath Novak." And then from there it got worse and worse.

I did feel that he probably would have quit if he lost the TB. If he had lost the second set, I think he definitely would have. There's no way he was going three.

His second serve... well since he was having such issues serving to the one side, half the time he was not putting much on it or even worrying about placement, he was just getting it in and Jarkko just made mistakes.

Hmmm well he could have been worse, but the fact that he was still running around playing long points would make it a 3 or a 4. Maybe a 3.5. A lot of his shots were off. I mean, forehands were going long, backhands were going long. I think he was trying to battle his problem and ended up just putting too much on things.

If you have more questions I can try to answer... but now I'll be in a car for 10 hours driving home. So it might take a while ;)

If you rated his game between 3 or 4 I would say that he was lucky to have Nieminen on the other side bc he's not playing well last few weeks. If problem doesn't reoccur today he shouldn't have problems with Serra. But if it does then...I hope that Serra won't bring his best cos that would be difficult for Nole...

I want to know what happened? He had 4-1 lead and then just stopped playing.Did he have breathing problems again?Or some minor injury? He would surely cracked top 20 if he had won.He had chance to climb up to #18 and even be among top 16 seed in USO cos Hewitt and Ancic are doubtfull, they are injured. On 7 masters tournaments this year he has 3 second rounds and that's it.That's a LOT of wasted points.Look what's Murray doing with just two good masters performances. When I think where Novak would be if he played Toronto and Cincy at his level...man.I'm not happy...
Now he needs to prepare well for USO and if he manages to get to quarters or something it will somewhat compensate this...

Hey guys :wavey: !I was at the Novak match wednesday,And let me say he is just as hot in person as he is on tv :hearts: :inlove: !Here's the thing we were on the center court watching Andy Murray and Roger Federer when we decided to leave when they showed that Novak was playing and winning 3/0 on the score board. So then when we got over there and to are surprise Novak and Serra were on serve 3/4  !!!That was shocking! There was not that many people there,so we got a really close seat and being that it was on court 4 it was really close!!!I was clapping and sheering my ass off for Novak which was a little awkward being that no one else was except for a few Novak fans(But they only would clap when I would)and after awhile I felt really bad for Serra being that no one and I mean no one was clapping for him, except for his coach and the rest of the people that came with him,and what was funny is that every time I would clap or say go Novak Serras people would all look over at me and either smile at me or just have a weird look on there face. And also Novak kept looking over at me and he even gave me a smile a couple of times(which was a little piece of heaven :inlove: )!!!!Oh and let me tell you guys Novak got soooooo mad at a guy in the audience! Here's what happened Novak missed a point and he was like god and put his head down and the guy yells at him keep your head up Novak just trying to be nice I think, but that was not how Novak took it,he stared right at the guy for like a minute with the most pissed off look on his face, and then like two minutes later when he held his serve he was walking to his chair with his racket and a ball in his hands and he almost threw the ball at the guy with his racket but he decided not to being that he would have gotten disqualified from the match! But he kept staring at the guy for almost the whole match!I know Novak wanted to beat the living hell out of the guy!My friend Evan was like man I would hate to be that guy and my other friend Jamie said yeah I would never want to piss Novak off!But It really was awesome to see him that close!!!And to tell you the truth I have no idea how Novak was up 3/0 because Serra was hitting the ball so hard and not making any errors and Novak on the other hand was hitting the ball just as hard but was just making alotte of errors! And when Novak lost he had to walk right past us being that was his only way out and of course every one was asking for pictures and autographs and me being a dumb ass I had no camera to take a picture with him or no paper for him to write on so I told him to sign my boobs  just kidding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks TennisMaster!Your welcome Scott!Cheering for Nole only comes natural being that he is so talented and hot!I mean every one there who was clapping was clapping for Nole. They were even clapping when Serra was making errors! But I think that was just to get Nole back in the game.Nole kept getting so mad everytime he would make errors he would start yelling or he would throw a ball really hard at the wall with his racket.I think he was getting mad because one he really wanted to win being that it's a master series and all and two because every one there wanted him to win,and I think that makes a player want to win even more! But I want to tell you guys that there is absolutely nothing to worry about Novak is just fine.He did not have an injury at all he was just making alotte of errors and that’s why he lost.and his breathing was just fine too!So I think he will be fine for the US Open and do really good there.........He just needs to make less errors thats all!
