New diary

merci

Arnaud

Without Seb (probably) and Fabrice, Arnaud is sure to play in Metz...

Hi everyone,
i just came back to Geneva today. Its hard to come back to the cold and snow, it's a little shocking at first. As you know, i'm a bit disapointed with my australian open. It was only the day after when i understood my stupid behaviour (whyyyyyyy did i ask him what had happened *ashamed*. But now that i look back on it...the way the match went along i guess it wasn't that surprising.

Injured at the end of the season which mean i couldnt play at Bercy, i trained hard during winter. It was different to most other years because i usually didnt start it so early. Personaly, i need to train hard physically to be able to train well tennis wise.

LIke i said in my previous journal, i left for Adelaide with a bit of pain in my thigh. A few days after that i went into the tournament in quite different conditions. In sydney i reached the quarters and i lost to Hewitt but i think i played a big match. Physically i was scared i'd aggrevate an injury so i coudlnt play to my maximum before Melbourne. So i couldn't train at my best there either.

Australian Open: the famous match which turned sour. was a nightmare. I had a stomach ache in the middle of the third set. I think i ate something bad. Then i started to get fatigued..then felt sick too so it wasnt easy to play with that! But in the fifth set, i didnt feel any of that anymore. Was pretty weird. I was better prepared but i couldnt pull it off.

So now im looking ahead. I have a few days to work hard for the DC. It's a great event which brings out a certain motivation in all the players. To be together with the other guys is great. Guy will have to make some decisions for the team to ensure we are at our best for the first round. I hope that you will come and support us and knwo the public is behind us, but i dont have any doubt that you will do that!

So i have to go because im tired from the jet lag. And hoepfully i'll be right for training on wednesday.

I thank you for your support which was given to me during my australian tournament.
thank you,
Arnaud

ooooo...... arnaud was indeed stretching his thighs at the other bench chair in sydney (me and kat and another girl were sitting on one, so arnaud was forced to use the other, lol...)

Many thanks Marine, and Esther for your translation. Poor Nono.

Sitting on one of Arnaud's thighs? Hmmmm. :lick:

See - I give him one second of sympathy and then I'm back to perving. I'm such a tart. ;)

Via
01-30-2004, 08:54 PM
yes....... should've taken a pic of his thigh stretching.... *sigh* blame it on the other girls. if irish was there, we would be running around arnaud to capture the best angle... ;)

can't you tell that arnaud felt quite safe alone on that court..... he knew he wouldn't be sexually assaulted by those three girls ;)

 Via you're right. I have no shame when it comes to taking pics of Nono. I'm too shy to have a conversation with him, but I'll take pics of him bending over any day!

Michelle, too right about Remi. LOL

Edit - damn, I should proof read my posts.

Allez, Arnaud!

OK French girls, beware....because I am officially coming to Paris once again. I have business in Paris on the 24th and 25th, but am coming early to go to Benny Berthet day :) I've a home rented in Boulogne-Billancourt and will be arriving on the 21st!!! I look forward to meeting up, am meeting with Mel and Caro as well, so pm me so we can all meet!!!!!!!!!!

arnaud....... yeah right he'll be tired, and he even lost to santoro in the aix final (am i always the last to know? )

just hope that he'll get past the first round... he lost when he played ljubicic last time but that was on hard court?

michelle........ my turn to give you a :p face.... why is your business always at the right place at the right time??? do you have boat trips again this time? lol

michelleg
05-03-2004, 01:21 AM
Ahhhh the joys of international real estate......I am meeting with a French developer to sign a contract to rep them in the United States. Its taken me longer than I had liked to get where I am in this business, but bit by bit, the perks are now coming.

As for the boat trips, my project here happens to include over 40 boat slips with Gulf of Mexico access in addition to some very lovely residential real estate. Couple that with two large retail/restaurant sites and that pretty much comprises that project. Hence, we have a boat tour of the marina slips for potential buyers :-) Don't particularly care for that element, though, as I happen to get seasick very easily.

Some things just happen at the right times. I also have a London/Madrid trip coming up in June that gives me three days at Wimbledon as well. So if I want to do the Grand Slam in a year, I now have to find some way to do business in Oz....<<thinks>> I have a few months lead time to work that deal.....

05-03-2004, 06:08 AM
lol...... aussie property is coming down at the moment, but it might be worthwhile for american investors to come and check things out! there always happen to be good investment opportunities near where the tennis tournaments are, i don't know why!!! ;)

read in l'equipe

I understood !!! ;)

The look in his eyes is so softly happy and genuine. I haven't seen that look in his eyes for some time.

Perhaps this will divinely inspire Nono, I just hope that he hasn't lost all his self-confidence and will to fight.

Allez, Nono!

In l'equipe today: (lol)

Esther, you're so right. I can't believe he's doing this stuff either. He's got so much potential.....

*puts hand up* I volunteer to knock some sense into him! (Or bang, or whatever. :p ) Shall I have a word at Wimbledon?

michelleg
05-08-2004, 04:10 PM
LOL At Irish's offer to <bang> some sense into little Nono. I'd offer to help over at RG, but I promised to behave this trip.

for all his misfortunes, arnaud is still ranked #28..... makes you wonder what the rest of the bunch has been up to.

in hamburg he's due to meet luis horna in the first round, and then coria. i think getting past the first round will be a BIG achievement.....

in the meantime, i am stuck with this avatar.... i'm still too disgusted with arnaud to have anything to do with him at this moment

I'll post tomorrow something I read in l'equipe today about arnaud's spirit. Scaring...

Marine
05-12-2004, 07:11 AM
L'equipe, yesterday:

It's time to find again motivation !! RG is in 2 weeks !! If he plays as badly as he did in MC, Rome and Hamburg, the crowd won't be nice with him...

esther
05-12-2004, 09:33 AM
ugh someone needs to do somethign about those two (arnaud and seb)...theyre not getting any younger and they arent goign to keep up their rankings if this continues!!!! I wanted arnaud to get back into the top 20 this year but maybe he doesnt deserve it

(or any other tennis site for that matter) i still use a dial-up connection so i choose the 56k option... but as is usual for my video experience, the image is very jerky, sometimes doesn't move (while the sound is going on) and stops a few times to wait for 'communications'. unless i am really desperate to see that video, i dont know why i should be bothered.

It's new: now Arnaud has a "thread" on the forum of his site, where he'll come writting himself his diaries etc... COOOLL :)

A demain !
bises à tous et toutes...

Arnaud C.

Thanks Marine. A quick translation >>>

Hello everyone, I am really delighted to see you on my site during the RG fortnight. I'll try my best everyday to relate to you in detail my days in the tournament. And yes, tomorrow, this already is the first round for me. As you have known for the past two days, I play against Fabrice. I really was disgusted when I found out. It is always irritating to play another Frenchman, so much more at Roland Garros. But I have to do it, I have no choice...... My day today was rather quiet, I wanted to preserve myself and to rest to be at my best tomorrow. I practised early this morning then I went to Mass. This afternoon, I watched a DVD. "The Velo" ("The Bicycle") by Ghislain Lambert! Frankly, I love this film, it has done me good to laugh... but this is not the first time that I watched it. I am painting! eh ouaiiiih!! I paint my shoes "Converses"! voila, therefore I will finish the day very quietly. Tomorrow, I have my warm up at 10h30. Next, the big wait for the moment of combat! Until tomorrow! kisses to all ... Awww, shucks. :)

We used to have to draw crappy old shoes and stuff in art at school. When I think about it, it's amazing I stuck with it. LOL I've never been able to paint, though. Maybe Arnaud can give me some help? ;)

lol... that's another idea for nono fans... i should go look for some old drawings of shoes, boots etc and ask him to sign for me

thought seb's the one with a shoe fetish ??? gee those frenchmen.....

saw a bit of how arnaud lost to fabrice in the RG highlights ... it surely didn't look like any love lost at the net in the end...

In l'equipe magazine there are some accounts made by some mothers of sportmen (it's mother's day tomorrow)
There is a touching article about Arnaud made by his mum.
It's long, I put the most interesting.

Arnaud a survécu.
...

Touching account.
I didn't know arnaud had been very sick when he was a baby. Now I understand why he's always as brought up by his mother.

A million thanks for sharing that Marine! :tears: Such a sweet story.

edit - quick translation -

Arnaud Clement has an owl tattooed on his skin. Owls are symbolic of strength with wisdom in Greek mythology. The strength, he expresses on the court, wisdom, it was explained to him by Marie-Michelle, his omnipresent mother, catechist with the College of the Sacred Heart of Aix in Provence: "a man, in order to be balanced, must nourish his body, his intelligence and his spirituality. In Rome, Arnaud met the Pope. He asked to be baptized at 5. I always said to my children: "religion is like training, if you do not give a little of your time to the church, you forget the basics"...

"Arnaud likes that he is looked at and that he is liked. In the beginning I dealt with everything, I followed him everywhere. The trainers had enough of me! Some thought that Arnaud could not go alone on the pro circuit because he had always been tied to his mother's apron strings. But I felt that I was the only one able to help him, the protector." She recalls the essential reason of her constant presence which binds them: "When he was very small, Arnaud was seriously ill. We didn't know if he was going to make it. For one year, I did not leave him. One of the nurses said to me: "You can't do any more for him, only he can fight for his life". When your child has that and that is said to you, it is traumatising. Arnaud survived. I do not know if he survived because he was strong or if he is extremely strong now because he overcame his disease ".

She says that his glamour and his "shows" on the court are only the folding screens which hide his timid, sober and traditional nature. And that his greatest happiness, beyond the final in Australia, was one day in 98 in Toulouse. "this day he played against sebastien grosjean, at the end of the match, in front of everyone he took the microphone and said: "first of all, happy birthday to my mum". I was in tears. In these words he overcame his shyness, it was enormous for me ".

Nono beat Alex Waske 6-1, 6-4 (I think) :p

He wrote a message on his forum

bises

Arnaud

Well, stupid arnaud lost 6/2 7/5...!

I read this report on irish's forum..(usually arnaud's behaviour makes me crazy, but today, ummm it's different ;) )

"Arnaud lost, the match was very bad....the most important thing of the match is arnaud s tantrum against romano grilloti he said '' don t tell anything you re so bad'' then he had a very big explanation with Coria, never saw this in a tennis match they were both arguing, Arnaud was so angry, so nothing special to say, now we are waiting for"

(arnaud is so delicate when he speaks english)

Via
06-19-2004, 11:57 PM
that sounds horrible..... like they spent more time fighting with words than with tennis balls !!!!

the strange thing is, coria now finds himself in a grass tourney final lol......... that would make up for the roland garros loss ;) either him or llodra winning will be one big surprise.

steph lucky you... do you have any extra to add to that match report?

stephB
06-20-2004, 07:28 PM
no.
but something about the first round match. it was quite funny. he was keeping up a quite big piece of the grass to the umpire (also grilotti) and the audience . till they changed it...and he complained a lot of times about the loud music in the VIP-tent next to the court. grilotti had to contact them all the time. all people were laughing.
thats arnaud!!!!!! *lol*
in the match against van scheppingen didnt happen anything exciting except dennis had to give up......and the next days....rain rain rain.......

Via

anyway arnaud is playing again on monday, he's got an outside court on 17 and he may not be too pleased with that. just hope that his tantrums aren't going to carry over. may some loyal fans like irish be there to support him..... *pray*

He girls, you definitly have more humour than the other arnaud's fans !
On his forum, I said the same, that he was going to win the grand slam this year (ok, and I also added now he was more famous for his look than for his results, like Anna K...) and everybody insulted me, saying my message was disgraceful, that I'm not a true fan, blablabla...

Via

poor marine.... it isn't easy to be honest, is it? lol

well i still adore arnaud and i know he can do better than this... he's been behaving badly and that doesn't help his game. i want him to do better, that's all!

lol.... he's won two tourneys and been to a slam final so he's slightly better off than anna ;) though i don't see any female enrique coming over to sweep him away ;) ;)

you must understand that arnaud is supposed to check out his own forum sometimes, so it's definitely not alright to be blasphemous over there..... you never know, some girls might live in hope that by licking his boots, they would score higher with him...

ok i've been way too honest this time, till later.....

michelleg
06-25-2004, 03:30 AM
Marine, I agree with you about being honest. Its very difficult for some people to take their "idols" off a pedestal. I find it utterly amazing and somewhat frightening that people will worship athletes, entertainers etc., to such an extent that they can't understand a bit of lighthearted criticism.

Here's my report from Wimby. I didn't take any pics at all, but my mates took a couple. You can see them here (http://img41.photobucket.com/albums/v126/arnaudclement/WIMBLEDON/2004/).

Via - Court 19 is one of the larger outside courts, about as big as I've ever seen Nono play a first round match on at Wimby. He didn't even deserve to be on a court that big, because there were many empty seats.

Nono's head - I think in one of the articles I translated he said that he had gone to a psychologist for a while but it didn't work because he's a private person and couldn't open up. So now he talks to Remi about stuff. I'll find the exact quote later...

edit - "Certain technicians think that the role of the psychologists is not useful, saying that when the physique and the technique are there, a player is well in his head. What do you think about it? –
I cannot generalize, but it is completely my case. At one time, I saw a psychologist. The problem is that I am unable to trust somebody whom I do not know; inevitably, as it is wanted as it is effective, it is necessary to tackle personal subjects, to confide. And that it is impossible. For me, the psychologist was a stranger, and at the end of a ½ hour, I understood. However, I have the impression nevertheless that there are things in me and that it is necessary to sort that. I do it with my trainer, we are together all year round and there I have trust."

Marine, you're a great fan. If others want to sit back and watch him get worse instead of better, fine for them. Don't stop being honest, please!

Monday

Queued from about 6.30am for a ground pass. The sun was cracking the chuckies and we had high hopes for a good day of tennis despite the forecast. Went down to the practice courts first and saw a little bit of Sébastien practising. At the end he was kind enough to come over and sign my book. I didn’t have a chance to say anything but “merci” because it was busy and I knew he would be playing shortly. The clouds started to roll in at 12 noon just in time for start of play. :( Watched a bit of Jose Acasuso vs. Stefan Koubek. Jose was cute, curly haired (almost hedgehoggy) and playing better than I’ve ever seen him play on grass (ok, so when I’ve seen him before he’s been completely shite, but I’m trying to be kind). Cat texted me to say that she’d seen Nono and I went down to the practice courts to see if he was there, but he must have been out already on an outside court, because he wasn’t there. Went back to watch Jose. Ended up sitting along the bench from one of Koubek’s mates (manager, I think) who kept staring at me in a slightly alarming fashion. Trotted over to court three to wait for the chicks to finish so we could watch Séb. Sadly Jose's form dropped as soon as Dee departed and the heavens opened. *sigh* Rain in tennis world is just plain wrong! The rest of the day was mostly waiting around. Covers on and off, actual weather conditions seemed to mean nothing. If only everyone could have been as quick and tidy as Roger. Sue picked a good ‘un there. Gave up and went home early. A disappointing day since I had really wanted to see Séb and Carlos. After a bit of Wimbledon landlady drama (this is Wimbledon fortnight, dear) and lot of Euro 2004 footballing drama (Roooneyay!), we were all off to bed.

Tuesday

Queued same time, same place, same weather, same ticket. Went down to the practice courts where Marat and Nono were practicing on courts next to each other. Peter Lundgren and Remi were talking to each other a little in French (Peter’s French is about as good as mine, I reckon), and when Richard Gasquet and coach came along later there was a bit of banter too, especially with the cute ball girl who was a little nervous of Marat.
At the end of practice Marat came over and sat on the ground right in front of me. Shame he wasn’t the guy I wanted – he ran around the long way. Pah! Two years in a row he’s avoided me. The little bastard. I’m lovely, so I am. All genres of totty kiss and cuddle me! Least he can do is sign a bloody book. Grrrrrrrrrrr! But I went to his match anyway, in the hope that I might get it signed at the end. Nono was generally well behaved, and even managed a wee smile and laugh with les ramasseurs des balles! He did at one point look like he was thinking about smacking one of them, but that was only because the kid nearly took his head off and he had to jump out of the way. He glared at the kid, but he didn’t say anything, so that’s a marked improvement.
Nono didn’t play as badly as the score might suggest. He always takes a little while to get warmed up, and by the second set he was playing alright-ish. He had a few break points but didn’t manage to convert them. Joachim has a massive serve and all his service games were like target practice. Nono did well to return anything. It was a tough draw and Johansson played much better than the little curmudgeon. No other explanation for the loss, except perhaps that he seemed to be having a spot of bother with his pants. More than a few times he had to pull them out of his crack (graphic enough? You said you wanted details…) which led certain spectators (no names) to believe that he was wearing Milly’s instead of his own. She’s bound to be a sensible white cotton girl so it could have been an early morning rummage in the laundry basket sort of mix up and nothing kinky. Pim-Pim had black ones on, if you’re interested. Sorry, I digress…..back to the match....
Nono got a little sarcastic at one of the line calls and escaped without a CV – “you think that was good? You think that was in? ok *shrugs* It was in.” *gives a little clap* - there had been a few dodgy calls, but I thought this one was good. Sorry Nono. The third set went to a tb, and I hadn’t given up on him, especially since he decided that was the right moment to give me a wee flash of his NEW TATTOO. Do you think he heard I was into TT tatts? ;) I couldn’t see what it was, but it takes up a large area on the small of his back. When he flicks up his shirt you can see it peeking out from his waistband.
Nono had more by way of crowd support and was definitely using it to pump himself up, but in the end it didn’t do him much good. Many of the French fans left before the end of the match. He lost to Johansson in straight sets, crap for him and crap for me because I was certain he wouldn’t sign my book. It’s the one time I reckon a player is perfectly entitled to put their head down and ignore a fan, but I really wanted to get both autographs and I decided it was worth a shot. Cat and I waylaid him (not nearly as fun as it sounds) and he stopped for me. I showed him the book, he signed it and I said (in French) thank you very much and that I was very sorry (In French). He ran off before I had time to give him the things I had brought for him and Camille. I wasn’t going to bother him anymore, but I’d come so far already I took the chance. I ran after him, gave it to him (again, not as fun as it sounds) and said (in French) that it was a little present for him. He didn’t stop, but he looked at me, took the pressie and in the sweetest, softest, saddest voice he said “ahhhhh, merci. Merci beaucoup” *THUD* It was the worst possible time to talk to him and ask him for anything, and he’d have had every right to tell me to piss off and leave him alone, but he was polite and accommodating and cute as a button. And I managed to form normal sentences in front of him! In French! (did I mention that already?) It could have been a horrible day, but he turned it around for me. Aww, bless. :)
The day was finished off nicely with a couple of sets of Tommy R. Caught up with Dee who had been to see Marat implode (“Amigo, do not do this. You are starting to piss me off”) on Court 2 with Sue, while A&S were over with Nicolas Massu (Chi, Chi, Chi, Le, Le, Le, Viva Chile!) on court 10. My cousin had tix for No.1 and he popped down to see me, but there was no time to chat as Tommy has added a new noise to his repertoire. The covers came on about 5.30pm and after a bit of waiting around it was time to go home.

Wednesday

“May I have your attention please, ladies and gentlemen … Thank you for your patience. The latest reports from the London Weather Centre indicate that the clear, dry spells we have been expecting are almost here and that the showers we are experiencing will pass. Unfortunately, play is not expected to begin until

1pm…
2.30pm…
3.30pm…
4.30pm…

on any courts. Once again, thank you for your patience. We must remain optimistic.”

You might think a day of sitting in the pissing rain with no tennis would put a dampener (pardon the pun) on a day in Tennis World, but the wimbybabblers can make the best of any situation. The trick is to position yourself where you can see an endless stream of TT passing your way and the hours fly in. :)

So with no tennis to report, just a few general observations -

Mohammed Lahyani is the cheeriest man in TW.
Hundee Roddick ignores you when you shout “baaaa” at him.
….But Robby Ginepri turns around. Go figure.
Séb is waaaaay teenier than Nono.
Some people are interested in JMG for his tennis! No, really!
Despite being Grand Slam Champion and surrounded by security, Roger still has time to stop for our Sue. Aw! :)
Wimbledon landladies are all tightfisted bitches.
Blokes in Brumbies shirts are easily scared by wee Scottish people in kagouls. Pah! I thought Aussies were tough!
I can sleep sitting upright.
The Dog and Fox is much less fun in the rain, but still has talent.
Small, noisy American children who do not understand the rules of tennis should not be allowed into the All England. And neither should their parents. :(
You need to take out a bank loan to buy a round of Pimms. Thanks to Cat’s dad!
Hernan smokes a lot. Or is smokin’. One or the other. ;)

he complained a lot of times about the loud music in the VIP-tent next to the court. grilotti had to contact them all the time. all people were laughing.
thats arnaud!!!!!! *lol*.....

Hello,

Just wanted to add thats it's true that arnaud gets annoyed for some minor stuff but i must admit that i went to some other tournaments before, and this VIP tents suck, they re drinking and chatting all around the court very loudly, there is no silence at all even during the game! actually Arnaud was not the only player to complain about this during the whole week.....even worse that the loud music at the USO!! LOL So sometimes he s right! ;o) and sometimes not of course lol

Yes you're right, even the audience was annoyed by the noise and this is not common ;o) But anyway, except this little "désagrement" this is a nice small tournament! the place to go to see and speak with nono very easily!!

LOL unfortunately, i don't think Camille as a sparring partner one day is the reason of bad results of an entire year.......I personnaly think that it's time for Arnaud to change bad hair coach as we really can't say that this association has been very successful since the beginning.....let's see what he's gonna decide for the next season!!

Marine
07-13-2004, 12:02 PM
I was joking about camille of course..lol
And yes, you're right, I think Rémis is more a friend than a good coach. He shares him with Dip, it's not good. Moreover, he's not a specialist of the technic, and I'm sure Arnaud "néglige" this part of his game. He could improve in some parts if his tennis. We know endurance is his first quality but..
But as we know, the french players prefer having a coach-friend than a coach/trainer.

Anne-Claire
07-13-2004, 03:34 PM
I know you were joking LOL, Camille had some difficulties to return Arnaud's serve though!! Yes, he needs a BIG changement, because these year's results have been........;(( Moreover, i don't really appreciate Remi, dunno really why because i don't know him personnaly but don't know just a question of attitud!! Arnaud if you read this (yes i'm dreaming lol) Please take Emmanuel PLanque, never met such a nice coach!!!!!;o))

Just an attempt:
ok so Michelle if you see remi around in Washington don't forget to say to him :

you have the choice :

"elle est belle ta moumoute"

"as tu des problemes capillaires"

" c est un mauvais jour pour tes cheveux, n est ce pas?" it's too hard to find a translation....LOL

Sure he will never watch you with the same eyes after that...LOLOL

Ahhhh the lovely Dippy piccies <<sigh>>

A-C, I'm having difficulties with thinking of Remi as "beloved." That would imply that I actually like or enjoy him. Maybe "bemusing" is a better word, as he does amuse me from time to time (aside from irritating me...)

Now who here has Olivier Patience pics for me??? (hope you're laughing over there, A-C...they just keep getting younger, darnit.) Just kidding, I'll take some in Washington.

P.S. The phrase here is "hair fu*&" Does that translate in French?

sorry no translation for "hair f***" but i'm still thinking about translation!! If any frenchies have an idea?

I know that beloved wasn't the right word but in France we can say it in an ironical way...LOL Poor Remi, not sure he's gonna manage to sleep this night, too many girls are talking about him tonight,no?lol however, i do LIKE "bemusing", and it will be the new word for define Remi with bad hair coach of course! Not sure i ve already told you, there were making a TV report about the opening of a strip club in Paris ( Pink paradise in Paris or something like that, it's the same concept as the Hustler club)ok, and guess who was sitting "incognito" with friends.........the bemusing Remi....!!!! that's obvious He actually needs a woman.....LOL

How cute, A-C, teddy bear is very sweet and adorable nickname...

Pretty Julien pics? I am at the edge of my seat waiting. He demolished Flip yesterday :) He's just tooooooo adorable.

Too funny about Remi and the Pink Paradise, quel bouffon. I had heard that he had a girlfriend, but had never seen any proof of her existence (not sure who on this planet would put up with a boyfriend like that..) He was with a girl in Miami, Marco said it was his girlfriend, so maybe that was the one...

I don't think Remi will be in Washington, though, as Dip isn't in the main draw yet and will be playing Sopot the week before.

I found pics which aren't new -RG 2003-

France2/3 likes filming the players in the change room beofre/after their matches...
It's a tv cap of Arnaud, just before his match against Coutelot, I remember they showed them before their match, Nicolas was training (cycling)while Arnaud was hyper relax and smiling on this seat, the difference was funny...

I don't see his heart in it, you know? I really don't want him to, but I hate seeing him like this - long gaps between tourneys, out in the first or second round, mystery ailments. It's so sad. I hope he can make some progress at the USO.

Sometimes he makes me mad, I'm frustrated, disapointed etc... but I guess it's normal, and it happens when you support a sportman, there are periods where it's difficult but..I say "i guess" because i was not used to that with Pete Sampras of course ! LOL

irish you won't upset anyone here, this is not the official nono board

however i must point out that, compared to my previous experience (supporting marcelo rios) things aren't that bad with arnaud! it hasn't gotten that sad yet.....

a worrying thing is that he isn't getting any younger... if you look at someone like michael chang, who's also small and thrived on running on court.... once chang was past 26 the legs just seemed to go. then the results went with the legs.

i just hope that with arnaud things will be a bit different. i don't think he has any intention to retire yet??

Arnaud posted a message on his forum, I don't have time to translate fpr the moment, sorry, I'll try to make it later.

On verra bien donc !

Arnaud

Plz, can I ask you a service ? Can someone corrige ALL my faults, I need to be corrected in my translations, only solution to improve a little bit. Thank you in advance. :)

Hello from NYC where I've been trained for a few days. Good weather but rainf is annonced for the beginning of the week, it risks of beeing a agitated US open.

To come back to the OG, I went back very frustated by my matchs. I felt really ready but every match didn't turn in my advantage. With Seb we lost by a very close score and in single, all has played in the first set. So it's disapointing because I really wanted to do well here but it's like that, it's the hard rule of sport.
Positive point: the atmosphere. It was really great to be at such a great event and to meet other sportmen who come from so different sports. I lived unforgettable moments, I will remember for ever.
For the us open I want to do well. I feel good physically, my game is okay. No harm ! My first round vs Arthurs will be delicate, vs this kind of player, the lot of the match depends often of the quality of his serve. So wait and see.
Thank again for your supporting messages blablabla arnaud's always polite...lol

Thanks Marine. Good to hear some news from the little fella. Your English doesn't really need correcting. Such little mistakes!

Hello from NYC where I've been training for a few days. Good weather but rain is forecast for the beginning of the week, it risks being an agitated (maybe "restless" or "disruptive", would be better) US open.
Going back to the OG, I came back feeling very frustated by my matches. I felt really ready but every match didn't turn in my advantage (doesn't sound right - "no matches turned to my advantage"). With Seb we lost by a very close score and in singles, all has played in the first set (I don't know...." the game was over in the first set" ???). So it's disapointing because I really wanted to do well here but it's like that, it's the hard rule of sport.
Positive point: the atmosphere. It was really great to be at such a great event and to meet other sportmen who come from so different sports. I lived unforgettable moments (makes sense but you'd probably more likely say "I had unforgettable experiences"), I will remember for ever.
For the us open I want to do well. I feel good physically, my game is okay. No harm ! (Nae wurries ;)) My first round vs Arthurs will be delicate, vs this kind of player, a lot of the match often depends on the quality of his serve. So we'll wait and see.

THE NEWS THAT EVERYBODY WAS EXPECTING FOR A LONG TIME.... lol

Arnaud, Dip and Rémi SPLIT UP :)

They decided together that it was time to separate after 3 years of association. They 're still friends.
Dip will work with his best friend Simon Viot and Arnaud found another coach but he prefers not saying a his name for the moment.
(ohh I wonder who is !!!! I know it's not possible but the best person would be Forget !!!)

Via, you can say he's super but "complètement givré" too... (expression who represents him very well)

He has got a second tatoo for a few months, a big one on the back (personly I don't like at all !) and the big question for 2 days on his forum is to know what it represent..it's a mystere.

According to his webmaster -but he's not sure at all, it might represent... the "montagne Saint-Victoire", the famous little montain near Aix, the symbol of the town, and very known cos painted a billion times by Paul Cézanne.
Very crazy idea, but possible with Arnaud...

Via

what crazy tourney that provides car seats for players on court??????? lol i hope they gave him a safety belt when the going got rough.

complètement givré???? really? is that how he appears if he speaks proper french??

and... what a smooth pink back he's got :hearts:

esther
09-11-2004, 06:16 AM
not in speaking, i mean yeah like proper french?! like i dunno its obvious when someone speaks english well or not with how they use grammar and stuf and i thought it was similar to the way Guy and Arnaud speak...like Arnaud speaks in a 'cool' way but at the same time its quite eloquent at the same time? i dunno hard to explain lol *shrugs* just a thought

He said he was going to rest (he's sooo tired after his great summer  ) a few days then to go back to Paris to practice for DC. No tournament.
(but just a question...is he sure he will be selectionned ???? He doesn't deserve it a lot)

Dip is also playing in romania. it's just what these guys should be doing, when they need to play into better form. davis cup won't start until later in the week after.

nono plays qualifier, Dip plays Daniel Elsner, paulo plays albert costa.

oh and richard is playing in the qualies!

and tickets are free up to including thursday

Via

arnaud is playing this guy....

Arnaud Clement FRA
vs.
Novak Djokovic SCG

yeah the tickets are bit of a problem, aren't they.... it's not like romania is in new zealand. but at least, i would imagine, the hotels don't charge as much as paris or london.

whyyyyyyy is he getting his brother to coach him *sigh*

Marine

Imagine them on the practice court..."Arnaud, listen to my advices and do what I say otherwise I'll tell it to daddy and mummy !"

Via
09-20-2004, 11:50 PM
oh dear...

another parallel between arnaud and michael chang

chang had often been criticised for using his brother as coach.

maybe some brothers can maintain a strictly professional relationship... or maybe bruno is an excellent coach (so where are his successful pupils?) but my guess is, arnaud just doesn't want to be disciplined..... :p

michelleg
09-21-2004, 11:01 PM
Maybe its because the brother works for free? Not like Nono is pulling in the big bucks these days, its pretty hard to finance a traveling coach when you're losing in the first round... (hope that didn't sound too harsh, was just meant to be matter-of-factish)

Via
09-21-2004, 11:32 PM
good reasoning michelle.... but isn't a coach a longer term investment? the one who helps to get him out of the hole? is it a sign that nono thinks his best days are over (so no need to afford the best)???

if you ask me i would think that prolonging the playing life is a key factor at this stage of the career........

i still think he's just being plain silly, but go nono, prove me wrong!

(btw is dip getting a cheaper coach?? that remi guy is high maintenance, lol.......)

Marine
09-22-2004, 06:28 AM
I don't think it's a financial choice, just "affectif".
He's very close with his brother, and Bruno just got his official diplom of trainer.
Maybe Arnaud thinks his brother is the best person to understand him (remember he doesn't like to entrust to a stranger).
Maybe he needs to be at ease with his coach to play good... (yeah my argument is quite stupid that's true for everybody ! But still more for him)
Well, anyway I'm sceptical about this choice of course, I would have preferes a experimented coach of top nivel but it's like that.

(I think he should have an american coach, these people are better to make improve players mentally but I know it's out of question with Arnaud  )

Via
09-23-2004, 12:59 AM
well at least he can't fire his brother as a brother, so theoretically bruno can be brutally honest with nono.

on the other hand, bruno is too close to look at things objectively for his brother... his head might be just as messed up when things don't go right, lol...

marine, you think americans are better with fixing heads??? :tape:

esther
09-23-2004, 01:10 AM
i guess only time and results will tell us how it goes but i think most of us will be very surprised if this will suddenly motivate arnaud or improve his game greatly...*shrugs* we'll see, i hope they prove us wrong!

michelleg
09-23-2004, 02:55 AM
*offers to take Nono under her wing for coaching services*

requires no cash, just the chance to meet Olivier Patience :)

irishface
09-23-2004, 11:32 PM
When I heard this I went "oh shit". I don't see how this is the best thing for Nono. No offense to Bruno, but I don't think he's the best man for the job. I really hope he proves me wrong. Michelle, that's what Sally said, about the money. I didn't consider it, myself, but it sort of makes sense. Marine - I too thought about Arnaud needing someone he can confide in. I hope Bruno, being the elder, is used to kicking his little bro up the behind when he messes up. :)

Can someone tell me why he would want to wait a couple of weeks before announcing this? Is it something to do with Bruno finishing his studies?

Via, tell me more about Nono needing disciplined. :p I may be just the woman he's after. ;)

Via
09-23-2004, 11:42 PM
oh well in a way we are all prejudiced against a guy who hasn't been given a chance to prove himself and his worth to nono. maybe nono knows it better .....

i'm sure if michelle and irish offer themselves for free, nono will gladly take up their services too ;) all in the family now.........lol

Arnaud plays this week a challenger, in Grenoble.
He plays today against N.Mahut. (I'll tll you how he will have played, my cousin goes at the tournament today ;) )

Via
09-29-2004, 11:48 PM
so how's arnaud yesterday?

i thought he'd be lazing around for the next tourney, while licking his wounds from dc..... i suppose he realises he needs more fitness and match play. ideally i'd rather him play a tour level tourney..... doesn't matter how many little challengers he wins with his left hand, it isn't the same kind of competition.

or maybe it's another sign that he's aiming low now :(

Marine
09-30-2004, 04:47 AM
Eugg...u know what...Arnaud lost !!!!!! 6/4 6/2 against Nicolas Mahut in the first round of A CHALLENGER.

If someone had to stop his season sooner to make a break, it should have been him, not Seb.

Via
09-30-2004, 05:35 AM
well that's the latest lowest low :( ......... although meeting a guy like mahut in the first round, it can't just be any tiny challenger.

i can't imagine how low his confidence level must be right now... yup he simply deserves to be exiled to a foreign country and hide away  he doesn't make any money any way constantly losing in first rounds

michelleg
09-30-2004, 06:42 PM
So now he's losing in the first round of Challenger events?

Pauvre Nono :-( But what the heck is going on with him??????? There has to be something, this is just getting sadder and sadder. Will he even be offered a wildcard for Bercy at this rate?

Via
09-30-2004, 11:30 PM
hmmm i haven't started thinking about that, but yeah... he may have to qualify for sydney next january at this rate!

is he just missing seb, or what... you know, they are tied by the umbilical cord ;)

one thing that MUST NOT happen.... just don't get fat (typical of players going downhill)

So can you arrange for him to be exiled here? He can give private tennis lessons to old ladies like me....

Sorry, had to interject some humour, as its getting rather depressing in the Arnaud threads!

when arnaud retires we can all move into the same retirement village.... in exile on some french island.... how does that sound, fellow old lady?? ;)

Which island? It better be warm in the winter, I've a delicate nature, you know.

I'm so there with you, Via. Think he'd mind having two little old ladies tend to his every whim?

I just can give you the link of the official site: http://www.opendemoselle.com/

Marine
10-04-2004, 08:18 PM
Just for info...Arnaud just has lost in the first round in Lyon (where he was finalist the last year !) 6/4 7/6 against Ljubicic. The contrary would have been surprising I guess.
If I could advice him, I would say him to stop tennis until 2005, like Seb, not to play tennis at all during 1 month, then to start again to practice in november, in order to be ready in january.
If I was his coach (Bruno, si tu me lis... ) I would say these things.(and some others)

Via
10-04-2004, 11:23 PM
without those lyon points, i'll dread to see his ranking next week..... and metz will be another serious test.

if he's healthy and wanting to play, it's hard to tell him to go on holidays.... but the vicious circle has to be broken somehow....

what some other things would you say to him? ;)

by my rough estimate, arnaud will drop to around #90 in entry ranking next monday, after both metz's and lyon's points drop off (last year they were played a week earlier)

it's imperative that he makes up for some in metz next week, and in basel too, if he can't make madrid and bercy. otherwise, there will be a lot of qualifying to do next year! :(

sorry correction: he isn't even on basel's entry list. unless he plays qualies, or gets a wildcard from bercy, arnaud can join seb for the long break after next week!!!

Marine
10-06-2004, 06:17 AM
