It's a bit early to begin this topic but the hardcourt season will arrive quicker than one thinks. ;)

Schedule for the moment:

1) TMS Toronto
2) TMS Cincinnati
3) New Haven
4) US Open

I hope he'll do well. :yippee:

It's imperative that he picks up some points in the first 3 events in case he gets a bad draw at the USO

Hmmm... He got Nalby at RG and Fed at Wimby. I'm guessing he'll draw Ljubo or Nadal in the early rounds of the USO. :tape:

Not to mention Haas in the Australian. It's possible he is (or the tennis gods are, anyway) aiming for the Grand Slam of Horrible Draws. :help:

here the draw :
[...]
BLAKE, James vs BESTER, Philip
SANTORO, Fabrice vs GASQUET, Richard
Q vs VERDASCO, Fernando
Q vs RODDICK, Andy

BERDYCH, Tomas vs NESTOR, Daniel
YOUZHNY, Mikhail vs RUSEDSKI, Greg
Q vs Q
MASSU, Nicolas vs NADAL, Rafael

The first match is interesting, but can be very difficult if Fab want absolutely win and fight on every point. I will try to forget the two Henman matchs early this year, which can be in the same style...
Also I don't Richard will make a much better tournament than the last year.

InfiniteSadness

The draw.
For once he doesn't draw Federer early, but he draws Blake on 2nd round ON HARD. Yeah, great.

Richard must be a real big sinner if the gods of the tourneys keep giving him awful draws like that.

Santoro is really tough so I won't even begin to think about a possible 2nd round match with James. Only positiveis if Richie does play James, I will most likely see that match :)

Well, its official bring on James Blake. I had a really hard time rooting against him last night against Bester. He's such a good guy. Also, he was very complimentary about Richard in his post-match interview on ESPN. He said he wants to try to get Richard out of his "comfort zone" and he has "one of the best one-handed backhands on tour".

Put up a good fight Richard! :boxing:

YES!!!!!!! i'm so happy!! finally, he's back on track. and the awesome thing is that i got to watch it on tv!

Oh, that was good. It's been a while since I've seen a match he WON on TV and it wasn't even full I think. It was his win against Hrbaty in Indian Wells. Then the only featured matches of him that I remember were his losses to Roger in IW, Wimbledon and his loss to Nalbandian in RG. So it was good to see him winning on TV. ;)

Though the match certainly lacked quality in numerous patches, Richard was able to mix up his game so well. He even sliced the damn ball! I just don't remember him slicing so much and his slice it's often so effective and beautiful, he should probably use it more. His topspin looked exaggerated in my eyes :tape: but it definitely paid off to send high balls to James' backhand. His forehand was erratic, but it worked some as well. :)

This win is so exciting, but I'll do a silverwhite :p and not expect too much. Just don't lose to Verdasco, Richard!

I actually saw this match for a change. This is my first time seeing him play well in a long time. I saw the beatdown at Wimbledon and his match against Tommy as the AUS so it was really nice to see him win a match for a change. I wouldn't say Richard played well, but he played good enough to get through. If he got broken one more time, I think I was going to break something. He was driving me insane in that 2nd set :smash: Some really great shots on his part and some total collapse by James. I was praying that he wasn't going to get bagled today :help:

Still, this is a great win for him and I'm hoping he can beat Verdasco tomorrow. I'm expecting the worst so I won't be disappointed

yea, his matches rarely get shown here, i've only watched matches where he lost. and it's against the top 10 players like fed. as you already mentioned. and his match at the USO last year against ginepri, which he lost. and i think they showed wimbledon where he lost. so yea, happy to actually see him win.

he hit the only ace in the whole match, surprised blake didn't hit any aces, he usually has the high first serve %. i cringed at richie's double faults though.

 There are a lot of common Roger and Richard fans, thankfully. ;)

I have a bad feeling that he'll lose in the first round of Cincy, citing fatigue as an excuse. :o

I know! But he's got to realize how much it's important for him to be more consistent and more importantly and firstly to secure a seeding at the USO. I'm sure he wouldn't like to draw Roger or Fat Dave again in the first round. :o

He definitely can beat Robredo. Tommy is not in the best shape at the moment and there seemed to be a problem with his knee/leg?

Now that I've seen the draw better, it's kinda of tough. He has Robredo and possibly Malisse in R2. Malisse played one hell of a match against Roger, so that will be pretty tough. Anyway, I'm not looking past R1 for now. I'll be as cautious as you, haha.

Flibbertigibbet
08-12-2006, 03:47 AM
Not to look too far ahead, I think Richard can handle Robredo, though it'll be tough (as long as he isn't too tired, ahem), but if Malisse beats Mirnyi and continues the form he's had... well, that's quite scary. Malisse-Gasquet would be a lot of talent, though!

Anyway, good luck to him against Murray as well.

Good Luck to Richie later today :) I would love to see him defeat Roger :D
And he may be catching Roger at a good time because it seems to me at this Tournament Roger has only been playing well enough to win. Roger's play has just not been the kind of play that everyone is used to seeing him play. More players are winning sets off him forcing Roger to play more. And I have felt this year that other players were going to defeat Roger other than just Rafa. But no one has yet been able to take advantage of the dip in Roger's play. Maybe today is Richie's Day

Very disappointing match from the two of them, I have to say. Way too many errors. I guess they were nervous considering what was at stake.

I think Richard will regret the first 3 games of the second set the most. Had 3 BPs in the first and couldn't convert, saved 2 BPs in the second only to DF and then hit a silly dropshot and then had 2 BPs in the third which he didn't convert either. To be fair though, Roger also gave him plenty of gifts in the first set. Richard didn't really believe he could win after the first set, IMO. He got flustered too easily after the missed opportunities in the first game of the second set and wasn't as solid and steady as he has been this week. Hopefully, he'll learn from this and not make the same mistakes in the future.

On the other hand, Roger did well to recover from that horrid first set. What a champion. :yeah:

Shame that Richard lost, but we have to be proud of what he did this week. I saw the entire match and after the first set, I really thought he was going to win especially having three break points in the opening game of the 2nd game. Shame he couldn't have broken there. The match was great to watch--some of the shots both guys were coming up with were amazing. Yes, there was some sloppy play, but overall, I think the match was pretty good. I would have liked a different result, but I'm still happy with Richard. :) :bounce:

The draw doesn't seem bad... the 1st rounds seem quite easy... But after Ljubo... Well, he beat him last year with an injured elbow and it's still better than Piggy or Fed...

A quarter final might be possible.

I just hope he won't become :retard: Richie again. :scared:

pretty good draw, hopefully he can handle it. and no more injuries please!

Potentially a rematch of last year's 3rd round against Ljubo. After all that talk last year, Ivan the Terrible may be out for revenge :scared:
Well I'm not even gonna look that far, let's get past Simmonds first...

First two rounds seem pretty OK, so he'd better not screw up. :o Ljubo will be very tough though. He's not the same player that he was at USO 05...

Mr. Philipp Simmonds should be in panic now ;).

I agree for Ljubo, he's not the same player than last year, but he had a bit more difficulties during the last tounaments.

And Richard could beat him again. It's still better to have a 3rd round against him than against Federer or Nadal (or Nalbandian for him :tape: )

He'd better not spoil the opportunity to win the first 2 rounds at least. :fiery:

richie really has the talent to beat all the guys he's playing, he's gotta play consistent and capitalize on his opportunities, i just hope he defends his points from last year

Not a terrible draw, but you never know with Richard :scared:

Let's just hope he can get past Simmonds :yeah:

It's a pretty decent draw for him to make the QF, but as mentioned we cannot take things for granted when it comes to Richard so any win is a bonus. While Ljubicic is definitely an improved big-match player, he hasn't done anything of notice since his SF run at Roland Garros, I think Richard could take him out if he plays he's playing well.

He's got a least to make it as far as 3rd round because it's definitely the first opportunity I've got to see him live. I think this match-up, if it happens, is Arthur Ashe material but who knows...

This could be Richard's big chance!!!!!!!! :worship: He has an easy draw and there has not been a steady player so far in the US Hard Courts and even Roger Federer has some problems so really it's anybody's gain. If Roger plays as unsteady as he has before he should be very tired by the Final and then Richard could finish him off!!! Well, it's only wishful thinking.

I don't know, maybe, court 7 seem to be one of the biggest small court:

Last year Richard played on the court 11, the Grandstand, the Louis Armstrong Stadium, and the Arthur Ashe Stadium !

in the uk they are showin the us open on sky and they have 5 courts which they are covering does anyone know if court 7 is one of them?

Sweet4Richard

If I can remember correctly from the qualies, court 7 isn't equipped with cameras. I know Court 10/13/11 all are, but I'm almost positive 7 is not.
Its one of the biggest small courts.

Allez Richard :)
