she told that novak is probably the weakest player on tour, cause she thinks that he is getting tired all the time, and he is always affraid to win....so she asks does anyone know why?

he is normal and heathy person and of course that he is getting tired in 5th set, but he will improve that for sure, and about his mental strenght....i think that there are maybe few moments like that, but most of the time he is very concentrated and focused...and about the part that he is afraid of wining - i dont think so....remember his match against gonzales on rg...we all thought he will lose the whole match when he lost 4th set, but then he put strings together - and won 5th set 6:1.... that can also tell u that he has strenght to play 5 sets and win the match, but i think that he should make a break now, one week, so he can recover...he played two grand slams, in both of them he went into 2nd week...he needs rest.... :wavey:

Mentally, I wouldn't say he is week. He is very young and he is improving rather rapidly. In the review of yesterday's match on http://www.wimbledon.org/en_GB/news/reports/2006-07-03/200607031151928489781.html they said that he is the rising star. And he is!

Physically, he needs to gain a few pounds and to pump up his muscle mass, to work on his endurance and strenght, although he is alredy pretty strong.

Coming back to the "mental point" , I saw the match yesterday and I knew that he had a shot! It was that one moment in the 4th set when he could have broken Mario but he didn't...

He already has a huge experience considering that he has just recently turned 19, and when he takes a break, and realizes what he has accomplished in the last year, I believe he will start looking at himself and his game in a different way...building up his self-confidence and than he will be unstoppable!

Because he has the game to beat any player!

And watching him take a shot at Rogerer would have been spectacular!!!

But, we'll have to wait for the next year's Wimbledon!

Was she saying it in here to be mean or was it an honest observation? I only ask because ceilija doesn't have a good reputation on these boards and if it was mean I'll report her post.

I think you're overreacting a little bit. Every player gets tired in a five setter match and every player chokes sometimes and Novak certainly doesn't do that so many times so that we need to be extra-worried. He still needs to improve physically but he's improved a lot recently and every time I see him play I wonder where he pulls those fast serves and strong forehands from when he's so thin. I really don't think that he's mentally week, cause he has loads of self-confidence ( :secret: sometimes even more than he should) and he plays Fed and Nadal just like any other player, without much fear and believing he can beat them. So I really don't think he's so weak as you say.

As for all the injuries and distractions (breathing and now contact lenses) it's really starting to be annoying. It would be great if he could just play and be focussed on tennis without having to think about that ("Damn, I can't breathe" or "Damn, I can't see"). I remember reading an interview some time ago where he also said he had problems with his contacts during one match and he said to himself that if it doesn't stop soon he would take them off and continue playing without them...I don't know his diopter but he should really do something about this, cause it couldn't have happened in a worse moment :( and I believe he could have beaten Mario if he hadn't lost serve after that medical time-out

The post is a bit offensive and badly written to boot but not sure if worthy of bad reps and such. But on point, yes Novak has had some mental letdowns but also many strong performances and he is young and that's the only way for him to get better in the future. He is a bit thin right now but it's only a matter of time until he bulks up and grows up. He just turned 19 :)

He doesn't need to bulk up much.

some bulking up is in order to improve his stamina and lessen the injury probability . As long as it doesn't hamper his speed, it's a fine balance but he is probably not stopped growing yet.

Bulking up has never lessened the possibilities of injuries for players, has it? It didn't help Hewitt or Roddick, for sure.

Hewitt is slim and has had significant injuries as I recall . Not sure about Roddick or his injury situation but I think it's well established in sports in general that putting muscle reduces stress on joints and thus injury probability.

Last year Hewitt was extremely bulked up and it hurt him rather than helping him.
