Wow, that was a closely fought match with Roger :worship: I say it's a good comeback after losing to Roger pretty badly in Roland Garros. This is now has got his first grass final and is really turning into. So when do you guys think he will hit top 10?

In my opinion Berdych providing that he has decents draw could be top ten by the US open. His first title was on clay, he has beaten Nalbandian on the surface and pushed Nadal in a final so he can obviously play on the surface. On hardcourts it's obvious he is very good on that. He's won a master series on carpet beating Ljubicic in the final and now made a final on grass. Has a huge serve, a devastating forehand, one of the best backhands and is able to come to the net.

Like many of the young guys coming up (monfils, gasquet, murray, djokovic), if he could get his head together, he could get up there and be a top 10er. (as could all of them)

Thomas is much more mature and more importantly...he at least WON something.

Federer won his first title at age 19 and Berdych won his first MASTERS at 19.
Berdych is only 20 he is surely showing promises as he starts climbing his way into top 10. He will soon become, other than Nadal, the youngest player in the top 10, good luck Thomas :)

I would say Berdych has more talent than Monfils, Murray and Djokovic and has got his head together far better than Gasquet. Looks most likely of the five mentioned to break top ten (perhaps at some poitn during this year), break top five (possibly sometime before the end of 2007 if his progress continues) and be most successful of the five in terms of winning titles.

He has a great chance during the hardcourt and carpet season

Btw, its Tomas not Thomas. Pronounced toe-ma

Tomas is the most talented youngster by far. He'll be top ten for sure. Maybe #1 if he can get it together and stay focused for an entire season. He's not there yet, of course, but maybe in a few years he'll put together a good run.

Among this list of youngsters ( Berdych , Murray , Djoko , Gasquet , Monfils ) i think Djoko is the guy who will get more achievements overall in his career though another players of this list have more theoretical potential .

And regarding Berdych i don't see him not even as the second player with more achievements among these youngsters . His mentality sucks as he has shown today in the first set .

Berdych is the guy I picked to become the best of the young guns even better then Nadal as an overall player. He definately hast the talent and ability to do well on every surface out there!

It is good that he broke top-15 and nobody seemed to notice. I don't care about the ranking at this point but he has certainly made progress this year, i was impressed that he won against Nalbandian in straight sets on clay and making a grass final. The latter is important because he had traditionally problems coping with low-bouncing balls.

It is possible that he will break top-10 but he also has points to defend now, last summer he had a final and two semis before the two hard court AMS tournaments.

on what are you basing to say that???

well compare their 2 matchs against Federer this week ....and please don t tell me that Federer played much better against Berdych because it's not true.

I saw him play against Acasuso in Key Biscayne and he looked amazing. He seemed to have it all, big serve, groundstrokes, and volleys. He was by far the best player I saw that day. Later on I saw him play against Nalbandian on the stadium court, and he won the first set in a tiebreaker, but then in the second set he seemed to get really upset that Nalbandian was drop shotting him and he completely lost it and then lost 12 games in a row. I agree that he has a lot of talent but he needs to get his head together.

What does that have to do with anything? You can't argue about how they match up vs. other players, because that will just get you arguing in circles. A beats B beats C beats A? So who is the best? :p

I think this was a really great tournament for Tomas and I'm happy he put on quite a fight against Roger (let's forget about the 1st set :p ) If Tomas contiunes like this he will break into Top ten on the hardcourt season this year!

If his results were half as good as you suggest they will be, then he will be top 2 or 3 in the next year.

The fact is though, his results aren't as good as you would like to think. He reminds me of Malisse, but with a bigger game; same important limitations as the X-Man though.

Reaching the top 15 would happen sooner or later for Berdych, it was just a matter of time before he could get good results with some consistency, although he still lacks a bit in the mental department.

Just hope he manages to defend the points until the end of the year, if not we will witness another fall on the rankings by the big Czech, not that it really matters because, exaggerations aside, most people know what he's capable of.

No, you are not the only one. He has been called mini-Safin on this board due to the fact that he can generate a lot of power with seemingly very little effort because of the way he (and Safin) times the ball.

Stepanek is better though. I don't like Berdych that much. So many overrated youngsters, I get sick of them, what about the old guys.
