Predict-the-SCORE #75: Nottingham 2006

*Copyright alwayshingis - May 8th, 2004 -*

Predict-the-SCORE is a game in which you can predict the actual scores
of matches on the ATP tour.

Throughout, you will predict the scores to 18 matches of your choice.
However, the matches must be chosen in this breakdown:

1st Round: 7 matches
2nd Round: 5 matches
Quarterfinal: 3 matches
Semifinal: 2 matches
Final: 1 match

If a match becomes invalid (withdrawals or a retirement during the match)
the pick is not counted and you may reuse it any other time during the
tournament.

As stated, you don't need to commit to play. :)

Round 2 update

A sparkling return to form from Aussie hopeful Peta Pan sees her top the leaderboard, though there is a strong British contigent buoyed by the home crowd that are right in with a chance of the title.

After the mayhem in her life following her RG win, it appears that Peta has now settled down with boyfriend Ivan Ljubicic and is beginning to show the form she displayed when taking the French Open crowd. The 3rd member of the love triangle, Jerry Seinfeld has disappeared off the face of the earth, and early reports suggesting he was seen being beaten up by the Australian MTF army of Kristen, Prabu, Jim, and GWH have so far proven to be unfounded. Whatever the case, it is delightful to see a women of such talent showing her best form.

In something of a miracle, British competitiors currently occupy 4 of the top 6 spots. The British tabloids are now suggesting that we may as well start the party now, as it is a nailed on certainty that a Brit will win Wimbledon. When asked what he thought about these stories, Stella Artois champion adee-gee said "they're probably right. As long as I'm in the draw, there will indeed be a British winner at Wimbledon". Love him or hate him, you've got to admire his confidence.

No.1 seed silverwhite has been the disappointing performer thus far at Nottingham, currently languishing in a lowly 17th position. This may be a coincidence, but it is his 17th birthday today, and he looked a little hungover when he stepped onto court today. silverwhite denied he had been making the most of Britain's lenient laws on drinking, and promised he'd still be there or thereabouts come the end of the week.

League table updated!

Queen's champion adee-gee takes the lead from RG champion Peta Pan, with defending Wimbledon champion SaFed2005 - who won both the QF and SF rounds impressively - hot on their heels.

As promised, Tina got "preferential treatment" from me.

adee-gee

adee-gee claimed his 2nd consecutive title with a nail-biting victory in the Nottingham Open. Despite the young Chilean Alonso's claims that adee-gee should have shared the title with Peta Pan, the victory deservedly went to adee-gee. He produced another sparkling display in the final, meaning his 2 victories in his opening 3 events make him the hottest property on the tour. He is now considered to be one of the favourites for the Wimbledon final, although with the reputation Scottish people have for cramping during long matches, it will be intriguing to see if he can handle the physical demands of a grand slam tournament.

Peta Pan made a welcome return to form, with a runners-up spot after a very consistent week. It just goes to show how much of a difference a happy private life gives to your tennis game. It also proves that she's not just a one-slam wonder and will have many good tournaments in the future, helped by the fact that she'll never grow old in Neverland.

3rd place went to Ria, the Maltese sensation who proved to be a surprising threat on the grass and gaynor delighted the British crowds with 4th spot. The real surprise was the shameful effort of silverwhite, who seemed to have very little application towards the task at hand. He was being constantly heckled by the British fans after he said "all Brits are twits", and can expect similar treatment at SW19.
