Well there is already a thread about Philipoussis getting a wildcard, but at least he has had good performances in the past in Wimbledon. But why did Andrei Pavel get a WC this year?
What a joke, why not just give Mohammed Al Gahreeb a WC as well, he has doen just as much in Wimbledon in the past then Pavel that is absolutely nothing :retard:

i also think that pavel is strange... i like him very much but he isnt that special... he is to low on the ranks to be in.. then you can give a lot of players a wildcard! then i should gave him to an englishman

Perhaps as Pavel was the last person Murray won a match against in a grand slam? Seriously the guy was a top 20 player two years ago, made a final this year and now has a top 100 ranking so really deserves to be in.

Pavel deserved it. He was a great player and had injury problems, etc.
Flip, however, has been wasting WCs for years. Enough already.

I don't see why Pavel shouldn't play...he is relatively decent although not so much on grass. A little bit of a strange decision...but I don't mind. He will be dangerous

Pavel had a low ranking some weeks ago when the entry list was announced, but he bounced back and now he's at no. 80.
He was showing a decent form recently, reaching a final on clay. And last week he defeated Baghdatis on grass and took a set off Soderling. He may produce some surprise results on Wimbledon, equally pleasant or unpleasant.
GO PAVEL!

It's their wildcards. They can give them to whomever they want to.

Agents play as much, or more, of a role as past results/future prospects in the awarding of WCs. Mark obviously has an excellent agent, who's been very successful at getting him WCs.
However, I think it would ultimately be in Mark's best interests to play qualies, since he desperately needs match practice and the boost in self-confidence winning brings.

The organizers are pissing around, without laying out their intentions.
Pete Sampras would get a wildcard. Maybe even all 8 of them.
Why? He would draw.
Would he win a match? No.
Will Andrei Pavel or any 'home town hero' draw as many seats as Mark, let alone win a greater amount of matches? Not even.
The organizers need to stick to the intent of pleasing audiences and making money, not buttering up lesser participants.

Wild Cards should bring a little bit excitment in the draw....Local heros, young potentials and old stars, for injured players we have protected Rankings...
Mark is a great star, the audience will love to see him, but not pavel, it's a real surprise

BTW, maybe he got the WC because he plays doubles with a young Brit (maybe he is his mentor) does anybody have details

On the other hand, I'd rather see Pavel than yet another LTA "prospect" who loses his first round match to Sargis Sargsian 6-0 6-2 6-2 or something.

:haha: Yeah that is true.
...and on a serious note, it is nice for the players as the R1 loser's cheque makes up most of their prize-money for the year :awww:
