Roddick owns Blake and played a fearsome match today. Blake is creeping up on Roddick in the rankings. Who wins?

I say Roddick takes it 7-6 (4) 6-4.

Blake has been Roddicks's bitch but he has the return game to make life difficult for Roddick. It is mostly mental in my opinion and I agree that Roddick will edge past Blake.

Blake does a great job timing some returns off of first serves and blasting weak second serves. What he is not as good at is getting a lot of serves back in play. Obviously he is not going to time huge returns on Roddick's first serve, so he had better hope Roddick doesn't serve at 78% tommorrow. Blake also needs to make a lot less unforced errors on his own serve games, attack Roddick's BH, come to net, and put pressure on Roddick's serve games by at least holding his own.

They almost always play tight first sets, so if James wants to win, he has to win that first set. If he does win the 1st set, I am sure it will be in a TB.

their matches are usually ugly because they're so close. that Washington match last year was awful.

that said, this is grass and James is still not really proven on it. Andy needs to win this for many reasons.

Well, with all the power the two possess, both wanting to end points quickly, and both with erratic BH's, it leads to fast and sometimes ugly tennis. :)

Speaking of erratic BH's, unless Blake's BH is on tommorrow, I don't think he can push Andy around on his serve which will give Andy some looks. Unless Andy misses a lot of 1st serves, he should be holding a lot more comfortably than Blake.

If Andy serves high percentage. To win in 3 close sets.
If he serves mediocre. To lose 2 and 2.

I love both of them...but I am rooting just a little bit more for James to win. If James can at least try to get into the point off Andy's serve...I think I might like his chances.

But I think Andy will probably win if he's serving well.

Whereas andy and james are like buddies, they really support each other and respect each other and stuff and i'm sure it's hard to play in those circumstances. but you know, they both have stuff to prove out there tomorrow, which they don't normally have, so it will add an interesting intangible to the match. I mean considering their respective records on grass, you'd have to favor Andy, but there is just too much more to it in this situation.

Good points, but unless Roddick's 1st serve falls apart, I don't see him losing this.

Roddick to win in straights. The first going to a breaker.

:) Don't worry.

BTW, if James does somehow pull off the upset, he would only be about 140 behind Andy in the rankings.

I think even if Roddick has a poor first serve percentage, it will be a close match mainly due to the history between them.

I don't know who will win but I'll expect nothing less than a great match. They both have a lot to prove and they know each other's games very well. Plus, as friends they are not intimidated by one another so I'll be expecting them to both come out guns ablazing and wanting to win very badly.

Let's go Andy and James! :armed: :boxing:

on grass form andy should win but blake has been playing well this year so there's a chance for a upset. Like both players just hope its a close 3 set match.

Blake in 3 sets. Blake looses a tight 1st set . Blake then routs Andy in the 2nd. Blakes wins the 3rd set 6-4.

Roddick to win - nobody seems to be able to return his serve very well.

It depends on a lot of things. I'd definitely give Andy the edge, with his record against Blake and his ability on grass. But if Andy doesn't have a high serve percentage and James is timing returns well, anything could happen. Blake has to serve well and control the points by keeping Andy behind the baseline with his forehand. His BH has to be on too.

Andy just needs a high serve percentage and to be in control of the points.

I love both these guys, so I'm not even sure who I'm wishing for tomorrow. At least one of them will definitely be in the final!

Blake will lose and simply be happy to be on the court with Andy, just like he is when he loses to Federer and Agassi.

As long as he has this mentality, he'll always lose these kinds of matches against them.
