I really dont know why it was hewitt coz i think hes an awesome guy.

Other than that who do u think??

My opinion-Ljubicic and Coria. I dont like ljubicic myself but i love coria. I just dont think many people like him.

Ps-this isnt which player do YOU hate thread, its who u think has the least fans!

I think you are mistaken re: Coria. If you are talking about fans rather than players, from watching Coria matches at the USO last year it was v. clear he has a lot of fans, young and old, male and female, Latin and non-Latin. He had a huge amount of support from the crowd, even at least one standing ovation. Also, I remember a Tennis Channel announcer comment during one of the fall tournaments about Coria's huge number of fans, said he has "a legion of fans" around the world. He was really popular with the public in Beijing too, e.g. What you see in MTF is IMHO not an especially good representation.

do you really care that much to hate a tennis player?

u support a player, or u dislike a player...

but hate???

probably nadal is the one disliked by the media, becuase he spoiled the roger-slam special.... you know, something hasnt happened in what, 40 years?

someone said hewitt is hated.. but again, here, you can't believe how many people supported hewitt when he is playing nadal! haha!

Well its true u cant hate anyone uu dont know but u can dislike a tennis player. Their personality on court is almost the way the are off court.(With fans and other players as far as ive seen) I never start disliking a player when i just see him play, or when he bounces the ball too much or when he cheers himself on like a ten year old (rafa  ). To me, its when theyre being rude t the umpire, to other players and saying things that arent very nice in interviews. Blake argues a lot with the umpire but hes never acted superior to him or was rude so i dont mind that.

As far as MTF goes, nadal is the most DISLIKED...Im not one of those people but as for the reason hes DISLIKED, i can only find 2 reason. He wins (plain and simple) and the some guys here cant bare the fact that they can like a player who mostly draws attention to girls. Really, i dont know one guy whos favorite player is nadal!

Kiefer is not successful enough to be the most hated. He's the Nathalie Tauziat of men's tennis.

Most hated would have to be Hewitt or Roddick. Probably Hewitt.

From the general atmosphere of MTF now it can be well said that the most "hated" player would be Nadal. Last year and the years before it was Roddick, then Coria. All that has changed now since those two have not been outstanding enough to be picked on.

I remembered last year when I came here, no one really disliked Nadal. Everybody kept saying he had a great future and he was a real deal. Now that he has proven it, a lot of people turn against him. So I dig up some old threads here to show how, once upon a time, Nadal was just a kid well-liked by everybody.

"Sopot: Rafael Nadal wins his first ATP title" (http://www.menstennisforums.com/showthread.php?t=14275&page=2&pp=15&highlight=congratulations+nadal+title
)
"Federer Def Nadal 2-6 6-7 7-6 6-3 6-1 18W in row in final" (http://www.menstennisforums.com/showthread.php?t=32821&page=13&pp=15&highlight=rafael+nadal+career+title)

Some posters' comments back then are almost self-contradictory with what they are saying these days. These past posts and the quick change of the climate made me realize that a lot of people can still afford to "like" Nadal as long as he doesn't post a serious threat to their favorites. Like others put it before, Nadal is so hated nowadays simply because
he wins too much, especially against most MTFers' favorite like Roger. I like both of them, although I must admit that I have stopped rooting Roger for ages (that does not mean in anyway that I hate him. I still enjoy watching him play and admire him as a player). But I find it sad that a lot of people now have to nitpick some of Rafa's habits or behaviors to justify their hatred for him, when those things never seemed to be problems for them before.

I really don't get all the haterade directed at Rafa. He's such a sweet, humble kid with such admirable heart and drive. I really don't see what's not to like. Picking wedgies? Bouncing the ball 6 times between points? "Vamos"? Just seems sort of flimsy. He's obviously a respectful kid with fierce competitive spirit. There's no arrogance there and his press conferences should be enough to win over anyone.

I also like that he isn't a complete player and how much his game is about balls. That's the essence of competition to me. He's a worldbeater, not an artist, and I like that contrast with Roger.

I mean, Nadal hated more than Hewitt or Kiefer? I mean Hewitt is basically a bigot, and racquet toss/staredown Kiefer seems psychotic.

Re Rafa's protein shake antics, I think Mathieu said it best: "He was right before me shouting out encouragements to himself, doing little sprints and kangaroo jumps. It was borderline aggressive, but that kind of thing just makes me laugh."

I can see people finding that stuff amusing, but worthy of intense dislike? Crazy.

Armada~121
06-18-2006, 04:38 AM
Exactly. I doubt anyone hating Rafa ever has a chance to see what he's like in person. For those who have would know it's almost impossible to hate this kid.

I have worked in a couple of tournaments (both as a member of the press and an organizing staff), so I have sufficient "insider" experience about a lot of players. Although I have seen Rafa for only two times (AO and RG), he instantly came across to me as the most unaffected and humblest kid. It surprised me a bit at first because I thought he would have a big ego succeeding so young. My colleagues who are organizing committee in Asian tournaments (China Open, Thailand Open) absolutely love him. They said he was very respectful, very easy-going, very collaborative. Just like his mentor Moya who never acts like big star.

It's one thing to dislike a player's style (For example, I don't like Roddick's). It's another thing to hate him/her as a person. I guess I feel sorry for Rafa lately because he's one of the sweetest kids you can ever meet in real life, and yet he gets so much hostility just because of his success. That's life, but it doesnt seem quite fair.

Thanks for you comments Armada. That has verified what I have always thought...and solidifies what my friend who met him in Miami a couple of years ago says about Nadal.

He may be very intense on court, but off court, he seems to be a very sweet fellow. That is one reason why I will always watch his back on these boards. :)
