TenHound 06-18-2006, 12:02 AM Fee, do you happen to grok the Wimby seeding Formula? Or is it not graven in stone anyway? It seems Blake will be going in Dangerously Underseeded if they use grass court results from last 2 yrs, since he was recovering last yr. Seeding him #7 below AR & RN is nuts, when he's basically the favorite, depending on health of RF & Nalby. Do you see any way they can compensate & seed him 3rd? Do they weight results from last two yrs, giving heavier weight to this yrs. results? Fee 06-18-2006, 12:37 AM I'm not sure exactly what the formula is. I think they treat it like a sausage recipe, no one really wants to know what goes in it, they just want to argue about the end product. Let me tool around and see if I can find something... (grok and graven?) TenHound 06-18-2006, 01:41 AM thanks, muchly. Grok is one of those wonderful American words that means basically can you possibly twist your mind around this. It means basically understand, but is applied to things that are basically weird & defy what we commonly call "rational understanding" - that's why it seemed oh so appropriate for Wimby seeding, or rigged American elections... Graven - carved in stone, meaning is it fixed by formula, or do they get together & do what seems to make sense/set up the best final (in which case they'd seed Blake #2), rationalizing it after the fact. If Blake is seeded #5-8, and ends up playing RF in quarters - should RF even last that long this yr. - they'll regret it. Hence from their point of view it makes sense to seed him #2, esp. if Nalby w/draws, or certainly no lower than #4. But since he was out last yr, a rigid formula may not allow it, and may overseed AR. This has moved me from the Rigid Formula is Fair Camp, to it makes no sense since there are too many extenuating circumstances. Fee 06-18-2006, 01:57 AM Those are two good words, thanks for the definitions. :) I don't even know what to think of the possibilities for seeding this year. It's beyond my control and it kind of makes my head spin anyway, so I think I'll just try to distract myself until the announcment is made and then argue about it at that point. croman 06-18-2006, 10:45 AM "The Draw—The Draw for the main Events will take place at the All England Club on Friday 23rd June at 10:30 a.m. Players are welcome to attend." From:http://www.wimbledon.org/en_GB/ibmrealtime/index.html Fee 06-18-2006, 05:44 PM I took my information out of the player's handbook, published by Wimbledon. Looks like the info contradicts itself. We'll just have to see what happens, but the fact sheet also says Friday. smucav 06-18-2006, 06:08 PM http://www.wimbledon.org/en_GB/ibmrealtime/index.htmlDrawsheets for qualifying will be available by Sunday 18th June.
