Safin out of the Top 100?

It's a sad day when a Safin loss doesn't even get a thread...

Safin lost in 3 sets to Oli Rochus, from what I've read, he tanked the third set after losing 9 break points in the 2nd set.

He had Final points to defend from last year, and after that Rd32 points at Wimbledon.

The only positive is that he has no points to defend after Cincinnati so only can do better :awww:

the halle points coming off are already reflected in this week's rankings and it put him at 90 :(

He'll be outside the top 100 if he loses 1st rd at Wimby too.
And why should yet another of his losses deserve a thread?

He really should stop wasting Peter's time

I dont know what to make of Safin anymoer, he is injury free seems fine but the tankibg is just so annoying :smash: Oh well I still love him, but seeing him ranked so low is just painful

no matter what, people will still say that Marat is a "dangerous floater" how far does Safin have to fall in the rankings before people realize hes not as good as they make him out to be?

It's not a physical problem now, but really a mental problem! Yes, he won't out of the top 100 next week, but he probably will after Wimbly!
But after Wimbly he won't have points to defend, so he will be able to win some easily

Whether you like it or not, he is because of his immense talent and the fact that he came out of nowhere to win AO 2005.

I have this feeling that he will have a horrible season leading up to the indoor season after which he will come out with guns blazing and be a real threat at AO 2007.

you're right, completly right, Safin is not a good play... but an excellent one :p
And if you haven't noticed it, it's really a pity for you :wavey:

Not so much AO 2005 becasue he had won Madrid/Paris but making the final of AO 2004 from a similarly low ranking after his wrist injury.

Marat! :smash:
I agree, ppl always thinks he's the most dangerous unseeded out there when he doesn't even win. But then his name is Safin...which is what attracts all the attention. Marat's loses don't even make me sad anymore and rank 90's is ummmm...better than million of other ppl out there  . Now it's like, Marat on to next tournament, and if you loose early again, on to next.

Man, I used to be such a fan of him. I want him to come back to the level he's capable of, but he's just wasting everybody's time now.

Marat didnt tank the third set (only last two/three games actually)
he was simply outplayed by awesome-playing Olli :D

Marat needs to get his act together soon

It's amazing how he could not win one of the 9 breakpoints in 2 games against Oli. Now he only has 3rd points at Wimby and some QF points at Cincy. So, he has 200 points left to defend. Nowhere to go but up from here unless he loses 1st round the rest of the way.

Looks like Safin will need a WC or have to qualify for Cincy this year. Hope he makes the trip.

Looks like Safin will need a WC or have to qualify for Cincy this year. Hope he makes the trip.He has a protected ranking that's good for 5 more entries. He's only used it for doubles entry (Rome, Monte-Carlo, Indian Wells) so far.

it's such a shame to see players as talented as Safin or Gasquet out of the top 50.... :(

no matter what, people will still say that Marat is a "dangerous floater" how far does Safin have to fall in the rankings before people realize hes not as good as they make him out to be?because of what happened at the 2004 AO. He's earned that right. people know he is volatile and streaky and inconsistent and he could find his form tomorrow or the next week. So because of that, he will (and should!!) always be considered dangerous.

Amazing that every time a known player has a big fall on the rankings, Agassi is mentioned.

i don't like it how some people give up on him.

DAVAI MARAT!!!

you cannot just forget the "giddiness" and enthusiasm you feel for tennis because of him, just because of a few minor setbacks.

he'll come around. he's still 26. i'd be depressed if he was 30 and this streak continues on but i'll always be a supporter of him.

Oh well  The worrying thing here is that he might not qualify for AMS Toronto and Cincinatti. :o

He could still get a good run at Wimbledon although he'll need a good draw. Federer is a slow starter and would certainly not want to face him in the first two rounds.

I know, every time I see Marat has to play one of these guys, I'm like, noooooooooo! :D

Given the choice, I think I would rather he played Roger as that doesn't mess with Marat's head like those guys.

Who wants to meet Safin 1st round @ Wimbledon ? Even Rogi would pass on that...

Marat was in great form at the start of Wimbledon 2005. He looked very dangerous. Even Roger would have had real trouble against him. Then he had an average day in his 3rd round match and went out.

He can play on grass very well indeed when the mood takes him.
