Halle vs Queens surface and game

I can watch both turnaments and it is unbeliavable how much more of a grass game you see in Halle than at Queens. POints in Queens often look like slow-courts! no recognisable grass court game and atmosphere What the heck did they do to that grass? Halle looks so much better

That is because Roger is playing... ;)

No, it is because of the surface. Points look different

Halle has always seemed much faster. It also seems as if the big serve & volleyers (except Henman and Sampras) always play Halle, while the backcourters play Queens.

Yeah, lately Andy and Lleyt's have owned Queens.

Players often say the courts at Queens are better grass courts at Wimbledon. I haven't seen Halle in a few years but I always remember the court used to get brown and worn quite quickly.

It's the lame excuses- if a baseliner beats a serve volleyer at Halle you'll be saying it is slower...

Sampras played Halle in 2002 and claimed that it was better preparation for Wimbledon than Queen's...but probably he was just sniping at Queen's organizers. And besides he lost to Bastl at Wimbledon that year...

I think the Queen's centrecourt is in better shape at this stage than the one of Halle which is already more used up. Maybe the additional exhibition and senior events at Halle were not such a good idea  (I didn't pay attention the qualifying matches, if and how many were played at Queen's and Halle centercourt.)

I have no idea since I can't see Halle this year, but the Queens surface seems to be taking serve and volley very nicely - Tim's doing very well on it. Also seems to be taking topspin well too so there's something for everyone - just not as many serve-volleyers playing Queens perhaps.

I thought people always used to say that Queens was faster than Wimby?

I think the players who like to play Queens like it partially because it's in London, they can go there, rent a flat, and stay there for a month and sometimes that sort of mental relaxation and ease and preparation that way is just as important as how identical the surface is.

Just depends on the player I guess :)
