No Wimbledons though, but he'll probably block Federer from Roland Garros.

BlueSwan

I think he'll win one or two Australian Opens, will probably reach the semifinal or final at teh US Open at some point, but fail to win it, and never progress further then the 4th round at Wimbledon.

He'll probably win Roland Garros 5 times in total. So that's a total of 6-7 slams.

Assuming he stays healthy within reasn during his career. I'll say 4-5 RG titles. 2-3 AO titles. 1 US Open title.

That means 7-9.

He will last for another 2-3 years, after that he will fall like a bird. I think he can definitely snatch another RG or two, but i don`t see him beating Federer on grass or hard court (Miami and Indianwells are slowest hard court tournaments).

I'd like Borg to keep the record for FO so I say 5 RG 2 AO and 1 US.
Claycourters usually start to do better on faster surfaces later on in their careers. So a new claycourter will come along and stop him at the french and Federer will win once.

iloveupeterpan

he can't be in good condition after 3 or 4 years if he keeps on playing tennis like this

just look at how Blake juiced him in last yrs USO. As usual Nadal was staying too far behind the baseline, and his serve doesnt win him any cheap points on a fast court. Also staying too far behind the baseline is crap tactics in the USO where you have to have good net play to finish off points rather than defend.

This is a solid prediction for 2006. I wouldn't have been that bold. I always hoped he'd get the career slam, but I never believed he could win in NY until he actually did in 2010.

Funny thing though is that this is likely under estimating what his final tally will be. Maybe even by a lot. Time will tell.

As we currently see it Roger Federer has won 17 grand slams and entered a total of 24 grand slam finals. Very high number of finals.

How many slams will Nadal end up with and what will be the total count for the number of grand slam finals he's played in?

His body is heavily taxed so it won't be an easy feat but I reckon he'll manage to end up winning 19 grand slams (breaking the record) and his total grand slam final count will probably be 26.

f1yer
09-13-2013, 12:29 PM
Realistically a minimum of 15 slams / 20 finals for Nadal

Optimistically , he could reach 20 S / 30 F as well if others dont step up pretty soon.

I for one love bumps like this, it really speaks volumes as far as showing what was extremely unexpected for a player and the thoughts and minds of fans and tennis followers on this forum at a different period
it sort of reflects all of our minds, although its hard to remember, in 2006 I seriously doubt many (myself included) thought Nadal would ever end up this successful

exactly, it's miraculous in a way how the expectations were SO low with that insane success. granted, we are in a very hiccuppy stage in mens tennis with the lack of young talent so maybe it would mean more now

of course, many great clay courters DO burn out so I can see both sides of the coin. also in 2006 it would be hard to see past Federer continuing to be lopsided dominant for quite some time (which he really was, 2007,2008,2009 still big in the picture)

Mountaindewslave

I know I never predicted Djokovic would have 10 slams by now, it was pretty clear in my eyes that Djokovic had a weirdly great season with very limited resistance on the tour
in fact, weirdly enough, Novak almost benefited by the fact that in 2011 Nadal and Murray kept getting paired in GS SF's- they would tire each other out and Nadal would beat Murray who arguably that year may have been one NOvak's bigger threats (with Nadal's mental downside then)

I think it's safe to say a few more slams. Mimi is right that tennis is unpredictable, but when making predictions there's no reason to be cautious or concerned in your predictions.... unless you're betting money...

It depends on a number of things obviously, nobody really knows. He could lose in the finals of AO and W to Djokovic while suffering some shock loss at RG and then he would be 13-7. Or he could win 3 Slams next year and lose before the final of the other.

At the age of 27 Federer was also on 13 majors, and picked up a fifth runners-up plate at the AO 2009 (you probably remember that one?). So age-wise they are pretty much neck and neck. It could well happen, then, and would be fitting considering their rivalry and joint stranglehold on the sport for nigh on a decade.

Ooops I didn't see this thread before opening up mine. I apologize.

But I believe I posted 19 slams and 26 finals. I'm actually going to change the final count to 27.

There should be a decent back-and forth going between Nadal and Djokovic, something like Nadal winning most of the bouts, then there should be obviously slams where Nadal will crash out early to injury or by some guy who is on the zone, I think because of these events he'll land at 19 and 27 and by that time if he's around 32 his body will be done and he's ready to retire etc.

Baseline86
09-15-2013, 08:34 AM
Nadal to have a similar 2008-2010 period in the coming 2014-2016.

My prediction for coming 3 years...

Rafa will be able to grab 6-7 slams (out of the 12 slams available) in the coming 3 years. I expect rafa to get 1 Wimby, 2-3 rg and 3-4 hc

Rafa will have 15/16 slams by the of 2014 seasson, 17-18 slams by the end of 2015 seasson and 19/20 slams by the end of the of 2016 seasson. then he will play 1-2 years more, or two extra slams (go anywhere from 20-22 in total) and retire.

Andy will probably win 1-2 grass and 1 HC. maximum 2-3 slams for coming 3 years

Nole will win 1-2 hc and 1 either wimby/french or one of both. maximum 3 slams won for coming 3 years.

It is much more likely he will win one instead of two or three slams in 2014. Because Nadal is yet to confirm he can repeat a dominant year.
It is a small gap between success and defeat, we have seen it this season. How many slams would Nadal have, if Djokovic had not choked in RG and New York? Will he continue to do this, will Nadal keep his form and avoid better players in earlier rounds? Will the youngsters be a non factor?
Federers slam count is not in danger at the moment. Nadal must at least continue to win slams for three more years. If he has a slamless year in one of the coming three years, the task to overtake Rogers slam will be more difficult than some imagine.

riff
09-15-2013, 10:14 AM
Nadal has to be very focused on GS, nothing else. Good rest does wonders for him. Rafa i do not trust, he can lose to anyone in earlier rounds. On the other side, Novak is a rock. He is bound to reach all the finals, only Andy in good form can stop him.

Same slams for Rafa and Roger would be great :)

It all depends on how many more years he will play like this. As he keeps improving, I havea hard time imagining him declining fast, but of course, anything can happen. My own guess: 3 more prime years in which he wins 2x RG 1xW and 2xHC slams. 1.66 slams per year sounds about right. Barring injuries or low physical form, he should go past 200 weeks at #1 (he has already earned 40-50 more weeks with his wins this year)
