Dunque Filippo, terminata l'avventura di Wimbledon, è giunto il momento del Challenger di Biella. Obiettivi?

"Il mio obiettivo è quello di vincere il maggior numero di partite possibile e arrivare in fondo. Prima di partire per Wimbledon sono stato per tre settimane a Firenze per ricaricare le batterie e smaltire l'influenza, questo appuntamento di Biella mi dovrà quindi permettere di ritrovare il giusto ritmo partita".


Finalmente dopo l'erba è giunto il momento della terra rossa, fondo di gran lunga da lei preferito...

"In effetti ho puntato poco su Wimbledon per il fatto che se non sei testa di serie vincere è davvero difficile. Io mi sono poi trovato di fronte Hewitt ed è andata come da pronostico. Questo challenger di Biella, ancora una volta, mi servirà per risalire dopo la buona partenza nei primi tornei disputati".


Al primo turno del tabellone principale incontrerà Paolo Lorenzi. Sarà un derby tutto toscano. Livorno contro Siena. Un commento sul suo avversario?

"Conosco molto bene Paolo, oltretutto siamo pure coetanei, è da un po' che non lo vedo giocare ma è un buon giocatore. Sta facendo bene e ha nella continuità la sua arma migliore. Con tutti bisogna fare attenzione, perché il livello anno dopo anno sta diventando sempre più equilibrato".


In effetti capita spesso di vedere dei top ten soffrire contro giocatori addirittura fuori dalle prime cento posizioni. Ma secondo lei questo equilibrio tende verso l'alto o il basso per quanto riguarda la qualità?

"Verso l'alto, semplicemente il tennis sta cambiando: sempre meno talento e molta più fisicità".


Al secondo turno, se vince, si troverà di fronte Lapentti o Marin. Due giocatori non semplicissimi da affrontare...

"Il livello di questo torneo è davvero ottimo, nessuna partita è scontata. E' un tabellone composto da giocatori agguerriti. E' un torneo davvero competitivo, se non il più competitivo di tutti"."Filo" Volandri ha le idee chiare. Vuole vincere. Qui a Biella lo ha già fatto in due occasioni: nel 2000 e nel 2003. Come il detto vuole: non c'è il due senza il tre. Oltretutto, guarda caso, dall'ultima affermazione sono trascorsi proprio tre anni. Solo nei prossimi giorni sarà possibile scoprire se la cabala verrà rispettata.
