Winning RG juniors deserves at least a thread.

Could this kid be the future of Slovakian tennis?

07-07-2006, 07:41 PM
He lost in the first round of Wimbledon like a good boy... but he and Andrej Martin (another Slovak) are in the semifinals of the doubles :D

07-08-2006, 08:28 PM
They're in the final, if anyone cares :p

07-09-2006, 03:31 PM
they lost :sobbing:

after 5*-4 in the first it was pretty much all downhill :( 6-7(7) 2-6

still, good result ;)

08-08-2006, 01:04 PM

Seems very tall :o

08-09-2006, 04:22 AM
he is. he looks better with his head shaved now.

08-15-2006, 01:43 AM
I think he looks a lot better without the shaved hair.

08-15-2006, 02:21 AM
you would :p

07-08-2007, 03:38 AM
he's in the Wimbledon boy's doubles final for the second time, this time with a different partner. he must be pretty good at doubles. good thing, since he's not doing too well in singles lately.

hopefully he wins. :D I thought it was a good opportunity to try to ressurrect this thread :p

Klizan in Prostejov quarterfinals, faces Berdych tomorrow. He is going to play in Kosice Challenger next week.

It seems he is still struggling injuries since he played few matches this year, with a lot of late withdrawals.

He reached two finals in Kazakhstan futures (lost to Kedryouk and Semjan).

I love Martin's personality and game, so refreshing to see somebody crazy and so aggressive :)

Two good wins in Heilbronn and a real chance to make the finals here. I'm hoping for a Klizan-Stebe final ;)

good luck in 2012

After raising his ranking from #155 to start 2011 to a career-high #86 in September, before finishing a career-best #117, with a challenger title in Genova, another final and four semifinals as well as qualifying for the ATP 500 event in Valencia, Martin has started this season in even better form, winning back-to-back events during the Moroccan challenger tour, in Rabat and Marrakech and has risen his ranking to a provisional #93. Most importantly, he will likely make his first ever direct acceptance into the MD of a major at the French Open! Martin has finally been able to control himself mentally and has the confidence right now that has given him the belief he will always win when he steps onto the court.

His junior results weren't a fluke as some may have feared, it's great to see Martin progressing and starting to reach his potential as a player. His next scheduled tournament is Barletta next week. He defends a challenger final in a couple of weeks so it will be important he gains a few wins in Italy to offset any potential points lost from the Rome challenger final and solidify a French Open MD position. Hopefully he continues the good form and keeps winning!

Don't forget that these Moroccan challengers are really weak and not really a good measurement. We'll have to see what the European clay brings.
I hope he mixes up challengers with 250 events.

Filo V.
04-01-2012, 04:56 PM
Martin withdrew from Barletta, meaning his next scheduled tournament is Mersin the week after this upcoming one.

Yes, the Moroccan challengers aren't the strongest but not necessarily weak, either. Martin had to beat very good players to win both titles, and winning 10 matches in a row at any level is extremely impressive. Now as the European clay season is beginning, this is the opportunity for Martin to prove himself on a bigger stage and translate his challenger results in North Africa in bigger challengers and ATP tournaments. With his confidence level as high as it is currently, I think he has a good chance to be able to do so.

Won the Bordeaux CH very impressively. Looking forward to seeing him try to replicate the high levels in Paris.

05-23-2012, 04:47 PM
Klizan was sick in that Bordeaux week and still managed to win both singles and doubles titles.

I hope he recovers very soon to prepare for RG. Archievable goal might be 3rd round.

06-02-2012, 03:02 PM
Against Mahut (RG) Martin Kližan was unfortunately sick again.

Things are looking great for Martin, now. He's playing great, and could finish the year in the top 50, despite the rest of the season being played on outdoor and indoor hard-courts.

09-01-2012, 07:35 PM
He is doing really well at USO. Beat Tsonga to get to R3 :)

I knew something like this was just around the corner.

While his results may not indicate it, he has been picking up form as the summer has gone on, and looks really great right now. Really delighted for him.

He needed something like this for the sake of his career. He was drifting out of the 'promising youngster' bracket (he's twenty-three now) and more into the 'solid journeyman' one. This win could help him on his way to becoming a top player that all his fans know he can be. Well done Martin!

09-03-2012, 02:54 PM
I don't think I've ever seen a smaller following/thread for a young-ish guy in the fourth round of a slam. He's doing great and hopefully he can keep it up against Cilic today.

09-03-2012, 02:55 PM
Hopefully more and more folks come here :D

And he didn't miss his chance. Defeated Youzhny, in a dramatic 3-setter, and advanced to the final where he easily bat Fognini 6-2 6-3. Congrats!

According to the Ranking of 20/10/14 Martin was ranked #37.
Even if we take into account that Kližan does not defend any points in Paris and several players above him do have to defend some points, it will very probably not be enough to get to No. 32.
(But I will also point out that he will also gain some points from this week's tournament in Valencia, which is not counted in the last edition of the ATP ranking.)
If this website calculated it correctly, he still has (at least theoretical) chance to be No. 32 after Paris.

10-27-2014, 06:17 PM
From an interview (in Slovak):

My translation

Q: You had a very good season, you were able to get from the second hundred into Top 40. Three weeks ago you defated world No. 2 Nadal in Peking. What is your goal for 2015?
A: I am satisfied with this season, despite the fact that I had to pause two-three months for injury. If I continue in similar performances as during the series of tournament in Asia and if I am healthy I can get in Top 10. I believe that I am able to fulfill this goal.

Sounds rather ambitious. But good luck to him.

But Cuevas is in QF Guayaquil (where he is top seed) and he has a good chance to get ahead of Kližan.
