I voted for David! I hope he wins.

Although one part of me is wishing for a repeat of the awesome Rome final between Rafa and Fed. With the same result of course. ;) Sorrrrrrrrry Fed fans.

But of course Uncle Toni thinks David is more dangerous...so maybe I should root for Fed.

Iím hoping for Nalbandian. He has the belief these days and he has the game. In rome, he pushed federer to a final set tiebreak, with just one point in it I believe.

I no longer care for Nadalís streak, I just donít want Federer to win the FO, not this year at least.

I quite fancy Federer to cruise past Nalbandian. There is a massive gulf in class between the two players. Nalbandian is actually older than Federer but has only won a pathetic 5 titles. Federer now owns Nalbandian. Federer is simply stronger in every department.

you can hate david but dont lie:

1) David is younger
2) 5 titles ( Masters cup december ,Estoril this year ...things are changing about that.
3) Federer owns??? : last game in Rome 130 points won Roger - 129 David , is that to own?? and David is 7 - 6 in H2H games.
4) in every department? returning service , backhand : David is best of the world in those 2 departments as is well known.
5) Federer is the best player thats why he is number 1 but David is number 3 not number 149 or 73 so show some respect and dont underestimate his talent.

Vamos David !!

Roger in straight or 4 sets. I don't see Nalby winning this although he's clearly the no 3 player in the world. Roger still has to go out and be at his best. Anything less will see Nalby pulling an upset.

Why in the world does Roger have to play Nalbandian in the semifinal? Shouldn't it be like No. 1 vs. No. 4 and No. 2 vs. No. 3? Please shed some light for me.
I'd love to see David play Nadal in the semifinal and then Federer-Nalbandian showdown for the championship, but I know I'm more delusional rather than pragmatic in this case.

It depends what kind of Nalbandian turns up.....if David can play his A game, stay mentally tough and not choke, he has a real chance.

However, he could easily choke or not turn up and play his best game if he's nervous.

Whatever happens though, I think it will be a good match.

Nalbandian has a tendency to play his best against Federer, and he never choked against him neither. They say Roger is great in finals and Nadal chokes - but remember last year's Masters Final?
It's different story when Nalby plays Fed. Fed seems to inspire him. He forgets everything.

It is still possible that he will have an off-day, but I am sure he will not be affected with the occasion! No choking for Nalby this time!

This is a very tough one to call. Talent-wise (very-subjective), I think of only 3 guys in the game right now that are better than Nalbandian: Roger, Safin and Gasquet. I know Gasquet may not have accomplished much so far but I think his game is so natural but he is at the same phase Roger was back then. Tactically speaking however, I have not seen anyone that has as much court sense as Nalby. I think he is the best tactician out there, in fact in the history of the game IMO. He just has a feel for what to do, an inner calm, understanding of where to place the ball and thinks better than anyone out there, if he so pleases. His major problem has just been the mental freeze time after time. This, coupled with the weapons available to both Roger and Nalby may determine the outcome this semifinal. I think it's 52-48 for Roger just because of the mental aspect, not game-wise.

The first set will be very important and the ability to maintain intensity for long stretches may be crucial in determining who wins this. The crosscourt exchanges, especially on the backhand definitely favor Nalby. Even some on the forehand (35%) favor Nalby because he hits flatter than Roger and uses that spin against Roger especially when on the run. If Roger can set up his points well with his serve, and control the center of the court with his forehand, he will be fine. If not, Nalby may make life miserable for him on Friday.

I like them both and just hope that whoever wins here wins in the final. I actually think Nalby game is a foil for Nadal's even though they have not played before, but Nadal's mental strength is definitely a foil for Nalby's brain freeze. I would love Roger to win 4 slams in a row. At the same time, I would want Nalby to win a grand slam finally. He should have at least 2 by now. Who knows what will happen? Let's watch and enjoy!

The implied probability of Roger winning from the betting odds is 80%. Based on their current form and their recent match in Rome i think that is way too optimistic for Roger.

I bet most of those who make the odds rarely look into the intricacies of this matchup. They must have factored in Nalby's tendency to choke regularly. That definitely brings his probability of winning down. However, the Nalbandian of this year seems mentally stronger than the past years, and this definitely makes things interesting. I think both guys will bring it on Friday.

What worries me is that even if Roger somehow manages to win (and that is a huge IF), this match will have taken a lot out of him. If both are at their best, then this could go all the way. A 5 hour 5 setter marathon classic. Whoever gets through to the final would then be whipped by a fresh Nadal (he is going to demolish Ljubicic). Some things never change

Roger didn't play all that well against Ancic either and Mario was dead tired. Roger will have to do a lot better than that to win against Nalbandian. Let's not forget that Nalbandian is not a good matchup for Roger either. Rogi can't afford any mental lapses such as the one he had against Massu.

True that Davydenko wasn't playing well, but most of it certainly was due to Nalbandian taking him out of his confort zone, incapacitating him from dictating the play and hitting harder, like Gaudio allowed him

Anyway, my prediction about Federer level was based on his Rome performance against what Nalbandian has showed so far. If it happens again, I doubt Federer will get through this time. If Federer plays better, I go with 60-40 for him

I donít have anything against Nalbandian, but heís much more of a grinder than a shotmaker; and a final between him and Nadal would be an exercise in tedium, save a few high-kicking, fist-pumping celebrations from Rafa. Think Lendl/Wilander for anyone whoís old enough to have suffered through that interminable snooze-fest.

Federer-Nadal is a much better matchup for a host of reasons: No. 1 vs. no. 2, high drama, and, if itís anything like the Italian Open, great tennis.

So whether Roger plays as badly as in Rome (his worst match this year so far imo) he'll lose and if he plays his A-game he has 60% to prevail ? Funny ;)

60% with Nalbandian playing very well of course.

But yes, if he has an average day at the office, I think he will come back to Swiss

Is Swiss a country ?

Ok, so I pray Great David has not a good day at the office today, otherwise Roger shouldn't even bother showing up as he'll be blown apart badly...

Nalbandian could win perfectly...remember he is the last player to win federer 3 sets in a row in one match.

Actually when he was on crutches last year I've heard his neighbour's daughter beatdowned him in straights too

*GASP* DID someone just say Federer has reached his -peak- Nooo! Sacreleige to utter those words! *Tide in the affairs of men* Federer is not one of those men! His will not rest until he has won RG and atleast couple more GS titles. *Still in shock* Pain is happening! Federer stil has good times ahead of him and when he does reach his peak he will have accomplished what he has set in his mind but now atleast for now, he hasnt made a pitstop at the Peak.

Believe it. Greatest is not the right word to use just yet. Most talented, yes. Greatest, not yet. And even the greatest had their arch nemesis'. Nalbandian is no joke. Being a federer fan shouldn't blind you to that simple fact ;)

Just like I said many times, Nalbandian is the favourite in this match. I'm watching it now and Federer is being outplayed and making so many errors. I don't think we'll see a Federer vs Nadal final.

6-3 3-0. Fed is clueless and has come into his self-doubting mode, David kills him totally.
