Two Croats in the top 10 - one amazing feat!

Most of you already know this, but I thought it deserves a thread.

As it stands right now, Mario Ancic will be 9th in the entry-ranking next monday, that unless he beats Fed tomorrow - which will take him up to 7th.
Mario has been a great promise ever since he beat Fed at wimbledon (last one to do so) 4 years ago, and has been to Wimbly semis 2 years ago, but generally his achievements left a lot to be desired.

Ivan Ljubicic had never made it past the 3rd round of a Slam before his QF showing at this year's AO.
He's now made 2 Slam QF's in a row, so much for the serve-only player who's not capable of doing anything on clay (sure, easy draw, but apparently RRH was good enough to beat everyboy and their mother's darling, David Ferrer).

How many people are there in Croatia...? 3.5M, is that true...?

Respect!

Yes, it's great, Mario deserves to be in top 10, but he has a room to improve so much and that's why I think that one day he'll be top 5 player!

Belic is number 4 seed at junior RG, 16th seed Veic and Mektic, they have potential but it's too early now!

It is an amazing achievement for both of them.Karlovic could become a top ten next year as he improved his Ground Strokes very well. Most important thing is they proved that they can play well on all surfaces.

Some Croatian fans who often criticize their players should be ashamed of themselves.

belic is our other big prospect. there's also veic and mektic. maybe jelenic. we've already had a couple of good juniors who didn't make the transition to the pros well (i.e. lovro zovko showed a lot of talent in the juniors but now he sucks). there's also tomislav peric who is decent and i'm hoping that either sasa tuksar or roko karanusic can one day get into at least the top100.

belic is gonna get a md wc to the croatian open because he is from umag.

the Swiss tennis federation did not do anything (not that they declined, but Melanie Molitor was a very accomplished tennis player and coached her daughter -- Martina's dad is a groundsman in a tennis club in Kosice)

Martina was about 7 or 8 when they moved to Switzerland

Yeah, yeah....... true that Roge has half South African blood. But how does that make him South African 100% and 0% Swiss? He is 50% both, and he was 100% supported by the Swiss tennis association in his development

Yet, he won two Slams in a smashing manner. Played some matches in them which will still be on ESPN Classic in 10 years, in 20 years.. And AO-2002, RG-2002 were his there for taking.. He is unlucky, or rather silly not to have 4 now..

Any insult coming from a Croatian fan is considered a medal of honour for any normal person here. Most of you are for these boards what most of Williams fans are for wtaworld.. Closest equivalent. If only two Croatians were anywhere as good as Williams sisters.. :haha:

While I agree that many Croatian fans are really obnoxious (not just on this forum), this stuff about 'clown's era' is coming from a guy who was so blind that he couldn't recognize Federer's talent a couple of years ago. I guess Federer was a clown too, then? That alone speaks volumes about your ability to recognize what a clown is and what isn't. :retard:

It is fine to cheer for your sport heroes, but I don't like too much arrogance, putting down other players, insulting people too often and such. It is true that some people of other nationalities do the same, but for Croats, this seems more like a rule than an exception. At least that was my impression, I could be wrong.

I don't see that type of post from Croats, at least I know I don't write them. I'm always respecting other nationalities and their players, and if I dislike some player is not for his nationality, but for some other reasons ;)

I think that the main reason why Croatians are not beloved on MTF is Jerry Seinfeld with his posts :haha:

To me it seems that you are a victim of the syndrome known as 'the good old times'. Probably watched tennis for a long time and got mentally attached to the first generation of players you followed. I could be wrong though, of course.

It is no contest.. The only way not to make mistake in predictions is not to make them. I have absolutely no problem with people having guts to post some bold predictions and being wrong.. It is a fair game.. You can be wrong, you can be right.. I do have a problem with those who don't and than gloat at those who make wrong predictions once in a while..

I never gloat at anyone out of the blue, just because they made a mistake. Errare humanum est. But I followed the link that someone posted here with your thoughts on Federer some years ago, and in that thread you sounded every bit as arrogant as here. So the arrogance is the issue; not a failed prediction. With the same arrogance you dismissed Federer as nothing special, you now call a bunch of good tennis players 'clowns'. There are better ways of expressing your opinion about their skills, because frankly, your way borders with trolling.

Not really. Goran was a very tough player, very decent player. Showman of course, but that does not make him a clown in a sense of clown era. Clown Era is not a national phenomenon. It is very international. With Russians, Croatians, Americans, French, Argentinians, Chileans being very involved.
