Blake is still arguing with the umpire after the match. He just said to Carlos Ramos "You thought that was OK? You obviously haven't played tennis at a high level then have you?". Commentators say it's maybe something about how Gael was acting on court.

Damn really? Well I didnt see how he complained to the umpire at the end since I couldnt take it watching the match anymore.

He was already complaining about something a few games before. The french commentators were saying, that it could be something about the crowd. Then they jokingly added, it was more likely that he was just upset that Monfils was playing so well. Annoying. :(

Blake made the decision. he put away his rackets. gael knew he had nothing to lose so he went along with it. it was a stupid unsporting decision by Blake who knew that he had to go back to the drawing board and figure out a way to beat Gael. by making such a stupid decision, he signaled his fear. and he got burned for it. serves him right for being such a stupid asshole.

Hey All,

Well - I suppose I'll eat my words. I thought Blake would pull it out - but Gael's play reminds me of the Paddle Tennis tourney he won. He approachs his singles' matches along that same line now - to me. Nicole Pratt kept saying that his learning to play Paddle Tennis, beating the number one and two players and then the entire thing might help his singles' game - and she was right.

As for James - I am not upset because - I know he learned some things - went further this year at the FO than previous years - and knows he can play on clay. He could have pulled it out - but the UEs (70 +) was his downfall. He didn't play patiently enough - and he tried to pull the trigger too soon. He should have rememered how well he contained himself late last summer before going for a winner. And - some errors are forced.

I still feel J. B. will win a five setter soon. He still has to improve in that area. All players have things they can improve upon.

Gael is too pumped to play in front of his home crowd and family.

when you lose a match, you do not INSIST that your opponent shake the Chair's hand first. in fact, as the loser you shake first and get off the fricking court. among other things, James started grandstanding and insisted that Gael shake first. you'd swear he's just won the fricking match. afterwards he made a number of insulting and sarcastic comments to the Chair, asking him if he had ever played top tennis. he was generally behaving like an ass.

look we all have our sore loser moments. today was not James' day. but i won't hold it against him. i understand the pressure to compete.

You sound as if you really believe this bs? He was not confident, he was cowardly? How do you know these things exactly? Crystall ball or something? Read in his horoscope for today? Mind reading?

At 1-1 in sets the match couldn't possibly have finished before dark even if Blake tanked it. So it was only a matter of WHEN the match would be stopped, not IF it would be stopped, like you are implicating.

me and the commentators who were there watching the match all said the same thing. none of us needed a crystal ball. no confident player stops a match when the momentum is apparently in his favor. you stop when you know that you're running out of steam but it took so much out of you to win that second set. that's what James did. it signaled to Monfils that the match was his to lose. :D :D

Okay, this sounds a little bit better than just calling the man 'asshole'. :p

But anyway, what followed the next day wasn't actually a straight beating, right? A couple of balls here and there and the match could have finished in Blake's favor. So, I'm not at all convinced that James sent out any signals or that Monfils actually caught them.

Personally, I don't see anything special about Monfils' game, I can only assume that the hyperjingoistic French crowd has helped to pull him through these matches.

I take it you did not hear what Thomas Blake said live on TV.
i did. and he's as entitled to his opinion as i am to mine.

i hate this notion that agents and/or family members are always telling the media the truth. that is such a naive perspective. it's your agent's or family member's job to make you look good, to make excuses for you, not to necessarily speak the truth. did you ever hear Hingis' mother say that she left tennis bec she got fed up of the big girls beating up on her? of course not. nor would i expect her to as Hingis' mother. what she tells Hingis privately and what she says to the media are two entirely different things. same goes for James and his hanger-on brother who is no longer making a living on the tour is he?
