There's nothing wrong with Robredo physically while Ancic was vomiting and now is getting (real) treatment for some injury. I hope Mario still kicks out that Robredo shitface.

Oh, but he did choke. Served for match at 5-3, and you could see on his face that he was shaken.

I was rooting for Mario, but I feel bad for Robredo now. He played better throughout the match, won vast majority of long rallies and looking more solid all the way. But what a fighter Mario is, that's incredible! How did he snatch victory its just beyond belief. In sets 2 and 3 Robredo totally outclassed him, winning his own service games to love and constantly pressuring Mario's serve. But Mario would just not yield. Showed some real fighting spirit despite that choke at 5-3...

I'm not saying anything bad about Mario. Despite that mini choke while serving for the match, muscle problems, and very solid Robredo on the other side, he managed to snatch the victory. That sure isn't easy. Someone with less fighting spirit would just crumble after failing to serve out the match, esp if as tired as Mario obviously was (I watched the match).

Actually I'm still kinda shocked that he pulled it off. After sets 2 and 3 I thought Robredo was just too good on clay for Mario to win. But, it is true that in those 2 sets Mario didn't go to the net as often (don't know why).

Mario has proven that if you've got game, you can win on ANY surface, which is excellent news for tennis in general (ball-bashers watch out!). I'm so impressed with his win, I knew he could make it to the QF when the draw came out (and I picked him for my ATP Fantasy Tennis team!!!), but the fact that he hung in there after all the ups-and-downs makes his win even more incredible. Federer will be tough, especially if Roger plays like he did today against Berdy, but I'm looking forward to good match.

I was in the crowd this afternoon and really impressed by the level of play of this match!

Really a classic, with the 5 sets, Mario "choking" at 5/2, the successive injury time-outs, and an incredible level of play from Ancic on the last game!!!

Only negative point was that my left neighbour became nearly hysterical each single time Mario scored a point (which, on a 4 hour timescale, can get on your nerves)

I was sorry for Robredo, though, cause he played a solid match and would have deserved the victory too

he got ouplayed and outhustled

Have you seen the match?

It's just not fair to say Mario 'outplayed' Robredo. Actually, I would sooner say quite the opposite. Sets 2 and 3 Robredo was clearly on cruise control, looked as is 1st set was merely a lucky strike for Mario, and that Robredo would finish the match with ease.
I mean, all props to Ancic for being such a fighter, he won the match fair and square, but to say he outplayed Robredo is simply wrong.

Somebody needs to give a hard time to Federer because he is having an easy one! I hope Ancic does.

On France 2, the commentators are wondering if Ancic is beginning to suffer from his shoulder (serving arm) since he's seen twitching it and holding his racket in his other arm in between points to give it some rest.

he is still serving above the 200 and if he hits an kick it is 160 170 so also very hard...

Fed's draw was tough..
massu, berdych and ancic all back too back, good players.
fed just swats them aside.. even though he has a few 'dodgy' moments, its more his better play than the opponents poor play/tiredness bla bla bla.
it is what real No1's do in slams.

Too bad he was fatigued in the second n' third sets, or else it would've gone to four sets. Nevertheless, a very impressive RG for Mario... can't wait for Wimby and that Ancic-Federer final... Now Federer, WIN THAT TITLE!!!

great great effort from mario
he will be back
starting to become a real threat
he has to start believing he can win & beat the top guy
it was clear that he was tired today

Fed's draw wasn't *that* tough - with the exception of Massu for two sets, his draw turned out to be full of paper tigers. Berdych was miles off his best and Ancic was too tired to really play Roger hard for the full duration.

Roger's done well to get to the semis with almost minimal fuss but when the draw came out I was delighted players like Safin, Almagro, Gonzo and others landed in Nadal's side, and Gaudio, Moya and Ferrero landed in Nalbandian and Davydenko's quarter.

Okay Nalbandian is a tough customer, but we're are at the semis now - it's time there was some serious opposition, no?
