I'm a lot more optimistic knowing Puerta won't be back. I can definitely live without one very tired looking Player A parked in his backhand corner pounding balls while his opponent runs like crazy hitting retrieving those shots and then directing them right back to Player A. Yawn. An underdog winner, any underdog would be great.

2 possible reasons actually:

1) Federer and Nadal are exceptional players who would dominate any generation or

2) lack of depth in tennis.

I believe it might be reason 1. I think people may underestimate how good Federer and Nadal are.

Yeah I see your point, but add an in-form Roddick, Hewitt, Safin, Haas and consider the up-and-coming players like Baghdatis, Gasquet etc and some others mentioned who have to date under-achieved slightly. I still think there is the potential for the top 10 to be as strong as it ever has been...it's just that sadly many of our talented players right now are headcases.

Remember that we came incredibly close to having 4 consecutive Becker-Edberg finals at Wimbledon between '88 and '91. Men's tennis will always be dominated by the top two or three.

I think the best gauge is the following: Ask yourself how many players at the moment can win a grand slam?

I can only see 2

But agree the tour needs Roddick, Hewitt & Safin to recapture some of their form from 2-3 years ago, or alternatively for guys like Baghdatis and Djokovic to accelerate their development

In the next year or so, the top 10 could easily contain...

Federer, Nadal, Safin, Nalbandian, Hewitt, Roddick, Ancic, Berdych, Gasquet, Baghdatis etc. (edit: oops...forgot Ljubicic)

Worst is Nadal-Federer (and I say this as a massive Federer fan), because everybody knows the outcome in advance. All other combinations are fairly even and exciting.

Well. We have an awful muggy final in the women's side so there. It cant' get worse for TV folks, no?

Murray - Fed would be awful IMO.

Anything that includes Murray. And I'm not saying that out of hate, but that it would simply be better for the tournament if Nadal were in the finals.

Bartoli vs. Sharapova would have been an abomination. Schiavone is one of the few real tennis players on the WTA, and if she brings her game, it will be a pleasure to watch the final.

Thank tennis JESUS that Sharapova and Bartoli are out and Li and Schiavone are the final. Kuznestova v Schiavone would have been a nice SF, instead of Bartoli. Sharapova has a horrible game to watch.

Could not agree with you more. Only Nadal fans want a Nadal-Federer final. I would love for Federer to be in the final but not against Nadal. If Nadal reaches the final I might have to cheer against the Swiss for the first time in 8 years which sucks .

Nightmare impossible to happen as such.
If Fed makes it to the final - it's already a success.
If Muzza makes it - the same.
If Nadalito makes it - ajde!!!

I am trembling thinking of it.

But it will never happen :)

In order from worst to best IMO:
Nadal vs Federer
Federer vs Murray
Murray vs Djokovic

To be fair though I would be excited for anything other than Federer vs Nadal.

Hi :)

I don't mind Murray, in fact I like him and his game, I just don't want to see Federer in the final and I like Djokovic and Nadal best :p

I'd like the final to be competitive, so I guess I have to root for Nadal and against Federer. Only way for me to do that then would be to avoid watching either semi tomorrow.

Djokovic-Murray if Andy is at his usual slam final form and Fed-Nadal if Rog gets hammered or blows million breakpoints.

This final is bullshit. That's all I got to say as a Fed fan. Rafa can't possibly be a legitimate champion here. Roger is already the champ by beating the clay king. Rafa has beaten midgets to get here.

Let us see how much Federer can push Nadal. Isner took 2 sets of him- Soderling pushed him and got to TBs and had BPs that likely given him a set. Murray had a ton of BPs. It's not like Nadal cruised to the Final. Not more than Fed. In fact Nadal played more sets than Fed to get there. If Fed gets routined in 3 probably Isner, Soderling and Murray have pushed Nadal more. just saying

That said my nightmare has come true now with Nadal in the final. But my predication that we wouldn't see a Nadal vs Djokovic final also came true
