From what I saw it was poor quality once again. :o

Monfils has had a decent draw so far. I expect him to go out as soon as he meets someone good on the red stuff.

Epic 5th set with Davis Cup athmosphere, many belgian in the audience. Monfils was overexcited, it was fun

I also enjoyed seeing veteran Norman again, and his classy lefty game a la Ivanisevic. When you think Norman best result in Slam was a 4th round in Wimbledon 10 years ago against Becker, good to see he's still on the tour :worship:

i just saw the last set (and i didn't pay much attention to it), but from what i could see it seemd that it was a very good match. Monfils was totally emotional at the end and he screamed like a maniac after almost every point he won. He's a very colourful and charismatic person and i usually enjoy his matches.
Anyways i was rooting for Norman today, he has a lot of energy despite his age and he played great:hug:

It was a very good atmosphere but the quality of tennis aside from the spectacle was pretty poor. There were some good points but overall it was certianly not a classic in terms of tennis quality.

Darn i wish i was in that stadium, great atmosphere! Pitty big Dick lost, but we'll see him back at Wimbly i hope. Maybe he can get a direct entry in the draw, would be nice.

Btw is Monfils on speed or something...jezus, he was so fucked up towards the end, screaming all the time. And his eyes looked like they would pop out of his head any second.

Monfils has already no competition as a showman on tour.

That said, I agree that he will go out as soon as he meet someone good on clay. Unless he improves dramatically.

Pity it did not enhance the quality of his tennis. Maybe next time he will finally play top 100 standard tennis. Another poor performance.

Monfils is not playing well @ all at the moment. I'm quite happy he survived though. Where's the "French Flair" Gael ? So PHM and Monfils are flying the flag. They should have played in the Davis Cup...!

I have alot of respect for Dick Norman. It's not easy on the challenger tour and to have hung on at the challenger level as long as he has is pretty remarkable. He showed to today even at 35 he is still able to play at close to his best ever level. Last year he reached a career high ranking of 93. Not many guys reach a career high at 34 and with very few points to defend until the end of the year I wouldn't bet against him bettering that this year. He has an exciting go for broke game too. I hope he doesn't get too down from this loss and uses it as encouragement that he can compete with the top guys. Hopefully if he gets another chance at a big upset at Wimbledon he will take it.

Oh my :worship:
Respect for Dick! On his age WOW
But his volleys and smashes
He can hit a service 200 km/hr but he can't hit a smash or volley good.
Always in the middle of the court, too weak, my god.
but still: respect for dick :worship:

Great match played by both of them, I really though Dick had him but Monfils just edged it out. A man going like that at 35, I know Agassi is still but to have someone else too and doing that athleticisme was amazing, all credit to him :)

Well done to Monfils though, he scared me a bit with all that roaring though, half thought he was gonna chuck all his bag into the crowd

I agree that Gael has not been playing well at all but I guess because he's an unaccomplished player it's okay to call him a sack of shit.

Well, he's in the third round so I guess there are bigger sacks of shit than him, like Henman and Murray.

Well Almagro will have a disadvantage since he'll be playing two tough matches in consecutive days. Also, the crowd goes nuts when Gael becomes insane (uhh? all the time???), so I'm not sure Almagro can handle all the boo-ing and rejection well enough to win him the match. Plus, if Gael plays better than he did today, gets on that forehand and serves well, and his body recovers from all the running he did today, I wouldn't count him out so quickly. I'd say at this moment it's 50/50. May the less-of-an-a-hole win!

I used to think that Monfils was a nice guy (also on the court) but now that I've seen the match: What an idiot he is !!! Screaming like a fool whenever Norman made a mistake: not the nicest thing to do. Not what a real athlete is supposed to do. And he isn't very original also: serving like Roddick, screaming like Hewitt, touching (or is it hitting ?!) his heart like Mary Pierce and just acting like Nadal: get a life !!! And his attitude on the court: please, for only being 19 years old or so he's got a lot of "streken" as we say in Belgium: he thinks he's the man !!! I really hope that his next opponent will beat the s**t out of him. That will bring him back on his feet.

COME ON BELGIANS !!! :worship:

Monfils attitude isn't that bad. He mostly pumps himself, like Nadal or Hewitt.

Almagro is more an "in your face" type of player (Stepanek like)...Better not talk Safin about him

btw, Almagro hasn't finished Blake yet ;)

1) Almagro likes the big shows, donīt worry, he will be fine.

2) If you say Monfils vs Almagro on clay is a 50/50 shot, you should learn a bit more about the players ;)

Gael will even lose if Nico had to play back to back matches in one day..He has no tactical game whatsoever..relies on his athleticism which was barely enough to beat a 35 year old Dick Norman .. Gael was lucky as hell today..Norman got tired but he was dictating the pace and rallys..

POINT is : GAEL is overrated

Monfils vs Almagro -> the battle of the assholes on court :o

why Monfils would be an asshole in your eye?
The guy has maybe not an appealing game (but again it's not your number one criteria I think ;) -> cheap shot sorry) but he's a nice guy.

And Almagro (I don't know if he's an asshole) has not beaten Blake yet (the first set was really good by the way, I didn't know Almagro had such a good backhand). He has certainly his hands full if it follows the same pattern than today.

That said, the winner will be a huge favourite against Gael.

I wasn't talking about their game technique or plan. I know for a fact Almagro is the better guy, and if they were playing in any other place in the world on clay I'd say 99/1 to Nico, but conditions matter, care to admit it or not.

Just watch last set of todayīs match. Thatīs a good example why heīs an asshole on court (I donīt doubt heīs a good guy, I just donīt know him outside the tennis court)

And Almagro (I don't know if he's an asshole) has not beaten Blake yet

This is true, but if Blake wins, then it wouldnīt be the battle of the assholes no more ;). And I also like to make predictions, and I think Almagro will win Blake in 3 or 4 sets.

Gael IS overrated. So are many others. But that doesn't stop him or anyone else from defeating better players because they've got no tactics. External/Unforeseen circumstances matter, and sometimes decide the flow of the match, that's all I'm saying.

Not even in Tenis Club Murcia Almagro would have 99% chances, as not even Nadal had them against Monfils, but Almagro will always be a clear favourite in a match against Monfils these days, the fact of playing in France increases a bit Gaelīs chances, but itīs not enough to make it a 50% shot, not even a 30% shot imo.

You have to understand that he doesn't act this way to make his opponent play worse (like you could think with Hewitt by instance) but to entertain the audience. As a matter of fact, I'm pretty sure all his fellow player appreciate him.

Monfils is a very lucky player to me...
and i also have to say he's a twat on the court with his screaming and chest pounding shit.
he's really gonna get shown a good lesson by someone soon and i'll love watching it.

he also does not realise, even alot of the french fans dont seem to like him, certainly in that match v murray.

Monfils will have very little chance against Almagro if it is indeed Almagro who he plays. Almagro got outplayed for most of the 1st set today and still won the set so it looks like he will prevail.

The match was better than the last sets of Monfils vs. Murray but that does not say much. Gael needs to think more on court and find ways to exploit his asset which is his tremendous athleticism. Most probably he is going down next round regardless of whether he faces James or Almagro.

James played very well but it was a close set. I don't think that Almagro was outplayed. I would be pleasantly surprised if James could win here.

It'd be nice to see a Nadal, Monfils matchup IMO... Nadal would probably dominate but let me not get ahead of myself... Nadal won't get by my boy Hewitt anyways haha.... GAEL's got talent he was down 2-1 and could have went away but he came back in the 4th set with a 6-0 bagel... that really killed Norman and the high he was on. Knocked him back down to earth a little bit. Too bad TV Coverage here went off after 3rd set thanks to rain delays and the College Softball World Series... Missed what seemed to be an intense 5th set. By the way hey to everyone in the forum as this is my first post.

This match was still better than Kindlmann/Sabau.

It was a fun atmosphere for sure and doing the wave actually helped Monfils, but it is very unlikely he is getting past Almagro.

I am glad that Dick Norman got some airplay so he had his moment of fame at 35.
It's a pity he lost because Monfils was beatable. Dick played some lousy shots at the end of the fifth set and that what was gave Monfils the win.

I entered the Lenglen stadium at 4-3 in the fifth set. The atmosphere was outstanding. Too bad there was someone, probably a Belgian, who shouted "nigger" during one of Monfils his serves.

But I wasn't too impressed by Monfils his game. He kept the ball in play but didn't do much else. Norman attacked well but risky, and it turned out the wrong way for him.
