I feel sorry for the RG ballkids!

I'm watching the live ESPN2 coverage and the players are wearing long sleeves. The umpire and line judges are in jackets and long pants. Everyone in the crowd is bundled up in jackets and blankets. And the poor ball kids are wearing shorts and polo shirts!

The commentators keep talking about how cold it is (currently 51 degrees F) with wind and dampness making it feel even colder. Doesn't a grand slam event provide appropriate clothing for the ballkids? Or can't they at least let them wear their own gear? After today's exposure, they will all be sick next week and the tourney will need to recruit all new ballkids.

I heard they considered supplying the ball kids with warm up suits in case the weather was cold, as it has been. Evidently, Justin Gimelstob complained that it would cut into the players' prize money so they had to shelve the idea.

Heck, they should take some of the $10,000 they got from Marat and buy the kids some clothes!

I think that it is not allowed for ball kids to wear the own private clothes. But they do a warm-up the evening and I believe they have warming up suits with long sleeves and long trousers. I guess miss-management by the tournament that they not have planned the cold days because normal it is not needed and always warm enough.

Some times it is bad when you see that some small things that cost not much are not done (but would be usefull) while the best players get big money cheques and money wasted a lot on other locations.

see thats wut i love about the us open. the ball kids get all these free clothing. like last year. polo ralph lauren was the supplier. they had sweaters and sweats. and it was all so cute. like they could be worn outside the tennis court. and on top of that they get paid too. i dont know about wimbledon or the aussie open though. as far as i know the us open is the only slam that pays ball kids. usta really does take care of business. now maybe if they could only get some european clay..lol

I agree though. It's really cold oustide; Especially if you have to just stand around for most of the time.
