Not the very best Federer, but he got the job done :) Solid match from Fed:yeah: He was very aggressive out there..

I saw the second and third sets and really liked Roger's performance. He was solid, and made some great shots. At times he seemed to be rushing and made some errors, but that's natural. I also liked Falla's game, first time seeing him.

Congrats Roger, and good luck in R3! It's likely going to be much tougher than his previous matches as he'll possibly face Massu.

Quote of the day from Sam Smith, commentating for the BBC

"Federer struggling to apply himself in the closing stages of this match?"

"You think he's nervous?"

"No - I think he's bored."

:D

Solid performance by Roger. I dont know if I was the only one who got the feeling that he was trying to simulate playing against Nadal in this match, although it is very obvious Nadal's forehand jumps more than Falla. He seemed to play a wonderful first set and then almost a mental vacation in the second as usual. But, his game strategy against the lefty at least 90% of the time was IMO excellent. Good luck against Massu, most likely.

I can easily see him being stretched to 5 sets by Berdych in fearsome form :scared:

Yeah, Fed played much better in the first set than in the other 2, but Falla also elevated his game after the first set..

The more he plays the better he gets...

It was obvious he got bored. That resulted in him being distracted by the potential for rain because he kept looking up to the sky.

He didn't have to really elevate his game today;) But he'll have to do it pretty soon I think, as Massu might be next!

Nice work Rogi, 3rd set 2-0 Falla serving at 15-0 that FH slice by Fed was  :worship:

it seemed like a training match for fed...walk in the park...like he was in no danger at all.

I swear only on MTF can he beat someone quite easily in straights and it's considered a sub-par performance.

I think in his interview Roger said he hopes to start playing better. I guess he believes he hasnt been playing great but just enough to get the job done. I think he played really well today, and at times he was playing like he was on grass.
Anyway, the wind needs to die :armed: its so hard for players to get a good rythm out there and the rain is

I second that as well. I thought he played well. He was rushing some shots obviously as if he wanted to leave the court on time which led to many unforced errors both in the second and third but all in all, it was a good display for him.

He wanted to get done fast because of the miserable weather.

I liked Roger's form today. Falla didn't have the weapons to hurt him, but he certainly didn't give in and made Roger earn it. His forehand will be fine, it's the consistency and potency off the backhand wing that's going to be tested down the road. And in that respect I thought he played decently today.

Falla was not much of a competition to Roger...

Roger seemed pretty anoyed at the weather today, didn't he? In fact, Fed's been annoyed all tourney long so far. First starting on Sunday (which I thought was totally unfair to him because he didn't know who he'sbe playing til late) then having his match interrupted twice by bad weather. Poor Fed.

Very difficult to determine a player's form and level when they only lose 8 games.

6-1, 6-4, 6-3 ... Federer was obviously the master there.

Fed is doing enough to win each match as simple as possible, agassi & sampras always did the same in their peak, once the bigger challenges come... Fed will pick it up even more as Massu and Berdych are no pushovers for him.

Im not fearful about Berdy in R16, yes he's thrashed 2 players who on paper, are good (Lopez and Volandri) but in recent months, have been playing really crap.

I'm not worried about Berdych - he was battered by Gonzo in Rome and lost to Serra in Hamburg.

I expect Federer to maul him without much ado.

The entire match after the first set was a training match. Some bad chip and charge attacks, hitting deep returns (some for winners) which he rarely does as he is most times content with just starting the rally but needs to do against Nadal, and a few other things. It must be a great feeling to be that confident.

Roger got sloppy because Falla was playing better and he was getting impatient to get out of there before more rain came.

Roger didn't play badly in my opinion, in fact i think none of the 2 played badly, Roger is just better. But with a match with a lot of wind and the constant possibility of a rain delay, it's difficult to judge how it affected both players and their game and obviously these are anormal conditions, so i wouldn't think that the way Federer played today will be the same he'll play tomorrow or next week.

Berdych destroyed Roger's dream of Athens Olympic Gold and Massu got it!

So Roger will def.them in RG. :)

Rogi was excellent in the match against Falla. So many winners! He was coming up to the net so much...yes, not very good competition, huh? Fun to watch Roger dominate people though. :worship:
