Tumultous Thursday @ RG

Apologies for setting this thread up over a day in advance but I will have limited internet access for the next week...and I'd like to discuss the bottom half matches before I leave

Obviously not sure of the odds but...

Heavy leans:

Ljubicic over Hernandez -
Almagro over Blake @ 1.36 - should have too much clay experience
Gonzalez over Djokovic

Others:

Benneteau over Baghdatis - Frenchie has a good game for clay and I remain sceptical about Baggy on this surface.

RRH over C Rochus - better form player right now.

Karlovic over Hrbaty - Dom really really really struggles against this type of game...and Karlovic's serve is frightening even on clay now

Look forward to reading other posts when I can :wavey:

:haha: Thought the thread was created too early

Anyway...just before I go....I have the odds for Thursday's bottom half matches and my thoughts for bets are as follows:

Almagro x Ljubo x Gonzalez @ 1.89....might take out Ljubo leaving the double @ 1.70

I really can't resist a pop at Karlovic @ 2.10 :tape: Will probably take him as a small single.

Leans:

Benneteau over Baghdatis @ 3.75
RRH over C Rochus @ 1.57
Norman over Monfils @ 4.33 - Gael struggles against the monster players :scared:
Mathieu over Serra @ 1.61

Peer @ 1.32 is a value IMO
although she's down against Pironkova 0-2, she should still beat her. Shahar of last year isn't the same as this year, with 26 wins out of last 28 games

Large stake on Hewitt for me.

Should have no problems with Montcourt and Hewitt steps it up in GS events for sure.

Will probably take: Verdasco/O Rochus/Step/Ljubo/Monfils as singles/parlay

I'm not certain I'm brave enough to back Hewitt right now, and in my nightmares I can see him losing the first set 7-6 and cracking from there.

I'd say at similar odds, Alberto Martin or Tommy Haas are much better propositions if you want to go down the large stake route...just a thought. Haas would rather retire than lose to Waske I'm sure, but Alberto Martin definitley has the class and pedigree to put Kindlmann in his place.

My other early thoughts are I won't be betting on the Mathieu-Serra match, but I may be brave and plump for Rochus because he is one of my favourite players and I know he has the shots to come through a tricky match.

Almagro could prove to be one of the stars of the tournament, but I'm still not touching that match...I do hope Almagro wins though because I'd like to see him up against one of the big boys later on in the draw.

Have a sneaky suspicion Hrbaty will have one of his better days due to Karlovic's style. I can't see Karlovic winning this one 7-6 7-6 7-6 for some reason and it's because of that I may consider pairing up Hrbaty with Rochus, Martin and Haas. Ljubicic should win, but he plays a lot of tennis and sometimes loses when you least expect it. I will still probably back him, can't see him losing. Stepanek is better value than Ljubicic in my opinion.

Peer-Pironkova I'm not touching.

Perry over Morigami may happen. Kutuzova is interesting over Dementieva, also Jackson and less so, Kanepi. Myskina losing unexpectedly is always a possibility too..but I doubt it..Gagliardi over Hantuchova should not happen but you never know...Hantuchova can be very bad as well very good...though I think she'll win.

Ivanovic and Zheng are the only favourites I'll truly consider backing from the Women's side.

Does anyone think Turusunov will throw away the Henman match? I wouldn't dream of it, but some bookmakers are offering 1.11 on Tursunov, where I thought It would be 1.05 if anything at all.

Maybe they are hoping Henman backers will take the plunge? I may back up the single I already have on Tursunov, but is that the sort of greed that backfires?

On a lighter note, Henman screamed 'F**KING TREEEEEEEEEEEEMENDOUS' angrily and sarcastically to himself and the scream was so loud and prolonged (it lasted about 8 seconds) that it actually scared the stadium into a silent place, even the umpire gave his warning meekly. It was the funniest thing I've ever seen Henman do.

Baggy is pretty decent on clay though.

Karlovic won their two previous meetings 7-6, 7-6 and 7-6, 5-7, 6-4; so it has happened before. His serve is looking mighty impressive lately, even on clay. He was bombing first serves in at 72% against Patience and never faced a break point.

Ljubo should win without problem, but is anyone know whether he is in good form or not? He seems to play a lot of tennis lately. I don't want to see another Petrova upset.

Some food for thought for those considering a play on Gaston Gaudio in the near future ..

Argentine Gaudio was in despair after he suffered his second
straight sets defeat this week and admitted he had little hope of
making an impression in Paris.
"I'm struggling," Gaudio, who won the season's second grand slam
title two years ago, told reporters.
"I don't know why my tennis is going so bad. I don't feel the
ball and definitely I'm playing the worst tennis ever.
"It's the worst situation, getting to the French Open playing
like this. It is pathetic."

3 plays for tommorow:

RRH x Mathieu @ 2.57
Karlovic x Hewitt @ 2.5
Benneteau over Baghdatis @ 3.18

C. Rochus is a crappy player while RRH shown some good form this year and beat some good players. Mathieu can always hurt you even when he's way in front. But talent should come out on top in best of five. I think Mathieu is more gifted and he will show that tommorow.

I don't think i have to talk about Hewitt. I know he has been injured and struggeled a little against Hernych. But hey: it's a Grand Slam. Hewitt as a fighter will surely win this one. Karlovic has really suprised me during clay court season. At the start of the dirt season i said to myself: i'm always gonna bet against players like Srichaphan and Karlovic on clay. But Karlovic put some good runs together on clay and against a struggling Hrbaty he has a more than 50% chanche of winning in my opinion. With Gaudio allready struggling against Roitman and other bad players on clay and Ivo serving well i give Ivo a good chance.

Last one is a bit of a toincoss. Baghdatis lost focus a couple of times against Portas and was lucky Albert didn't punish him hard enough. Benneteau isn't the best one on clay but for me it's 50/50. 3.18 is not a bad odd. Hopefully the coin is gonna end up on the right side!

Guess im betting a little differently than most here but have some in common

Serra @ 2.30 over PHM

Hrbaty x Hewitt x Ferrer @ 2.35

Ljubi x Martin x RRH @ 2.10

Still need Turs to finish off Timmy and Almagro to win tommorrow to complete plays from today as well.

Gut call but Karlos serve as big as it is has to be returnable on the dirt and I cant see him winning any battles from the backcourt when they are returned. Serra prefers the clay, is a frenchmen as well and phms a flake.
