Title edited again after Henman's equally unexpected loss.
Title edited due to Marat's totally unexpected *cough* loss.
I got sick of the 'Roger vs. Rafa - the rivalry!' hype after TMS Rome, but I thought I would get over it once RG got underway.
Instead, I find myself more and more irritated by the threads, the articles and the fact that this RG seems to be all about these two (yes, yes, they're gifted blah blah, fawn, blah) players. Trying to avoid it and still keep up with tennis is futile.
Here's the breakdown:
Rafa will win RG because...
No Roger will win because...
But Roger has a greater chance of not making it to the final...
If they meet in the final Roger/Rafa will win because...
But Rafa's amazing streak means...
But Roger's non-calendar slam...
But tennis writer X says...
But my grandma can predict the future and she's only wrong 87.132423% of the time....
But, but, but, but goddamit won't this topic die already! Unfortunately the answer is no - not until the end of this tournament.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not denying the quality of tennis likely from their matchup. I'm just tired of the discussions about the outcome of said high-quality matchup.
WE DON'T KNOW. WE DON'T KNOW NOW. WE DIDN'T KNOW YESTERDAY, WE WON'T KNOW TOMORROW. WE WON'T KNOW UNTIL THEY PLAY. UNTIL THEN, EVERYONE'S TEDIOUS, REPETITIVE AND BLOODY IRRITATING SPECULATION IS USELESS, INEFFECTUAL, UNPROFITABLE, FRUITLESS, FUTILE AND ANY OTHER SYNONYM YOU CARE TO NAME!
Here I have my happy oblivion, a GM version of DENIAL (http://www.menstennisforums.com/showthread.php?t=76493) if you will. My little rebellious thread, fighting amongst the morass and confusion that is GM, offering a beautiful, peaceful RG haven unpolluted by Roger/Rafa predictions and arguments.
Here's a useful prediction for you: Marat Safin will win this years RG. Why?
Well, why not? He's Marat Safin, the very definition of unpredictability (his picture will replace all current definitions in the next reprint of the Oxford dictionary). His results this year? Dismal. He has won one (it's one right?) match on clay this year.
Why do I think he will win RG? Actually I don't. I'd just rather talk about something other than a R(1) vs. R(2) final.
Do you want to vent? Do you want to talk about someone else (anyone else) winning RG? Lay it down for the masses and get it off your chest. I'm glad I got it off mine.
