Battle of the clay superstars - Henman v Tursunov....again!

To be honest, based on Henman's pretty average display against Carlsen and Dima's thrashing of Novak...

I think Dima is going to win again :(

Whilst Dima is pretty hopeless on clay, his huge groundies will still really hurt Henman...and of course Henman's game is even less effective on the clay anyway. I'd imagine Tim will try to keep the ball in play as long as possible and hope for a Dima mistake...this could lead him to tire quicker.

All in all...I am struggling to see Henman win it.

Any thoughts?

I am confident Tim will come through this, as Dmitry seems really uncomfortable on clay. I know he routined Tim last year, and beat him another time; but both were on hard(ish) surfaces - grass/hardcourt.

We'll see, good luck to both players!

Unbelievable.
They meet in the early round again?
I hope Tim wins this time.

I would normally pick Tim and I would still give him the slight edge but Dima looked like he won comfortably in R1 so perhaps he's finally getting more comfortable on the clay? And Tim is not a natural claycourter so regardless of the surface, he still has a game that Dima likes to play against.

No-one forgetting SF 2004 Henman vs Coria? Still had to win 5 matches on clay to get there..

I'd love to see Henman win, but like you Jez, I'm struggling to see it. I hope I'm wrong.

Yeah I'm focused more on the match-up for this...as scoobs says...Tim is a nice match for Dima.

Besides, Wimby and Aussie Open play quite slow for grass and hardcourts and the ball stays up for a tiny bit longer...on clay the ball will stay up for longer giving Dima even more of a chance to pummel it.

Battle of the clay superstars. Tim is a former semi-finalist. Therefore, not that bad.

Well, I wouldn't put any money on this one. I really have no clue what to expect in this match-up, but I'll say Tursunov in 5 sets for the hell of it.

Funny, I remember how mad I was at Tursunov for defeating Henman in Wimbledon. I really hated him! But my attitude towards him completely changed these last weeks. For obvious reasons. :)

My point too, doc - they seem to be ignoring this fact. perhaps Jez doesn't want to edit the thread title?

Henman is not a clay clown at all.
He reach RG SF 2 years ago.
