QUOTE OF THE DAY: "Federer is going to have a hard time getting to the final." - French Tennis Federation president Christian Bimes.

Maybe reading a bit too much into it, but I wonder if that was a little retort to Roger's very public denouncement of the Sunday start?

I know yesterday was hardly vintage Roger but I think it is too easy to say he'll struggle badly throughout the event. I think Roger would take a bit of pleasure in proving him wrong (although it would be the least of this thoughts). Quite unusual for a Federation president and tournament director (?) to make predictions on the players hopes.

Maybe his discretion was lost in translation?

And yesterday he told on FT that the favorites (Nadal, Fed, Nalbandian) should not struggle too much in the early rounds...

well, he thought he might be doing Roger a favor.

A quote like that on such a random, sketchy site has around a 97% chance of being out of context

It was taken from an interview he did with the Associated Press so I'm pretty sure he said it. It doesn't surprise me though. I remember he said Mauresmo was a disappointment and let down French tennis by losing in the 3rd round at RG last year.

I don't think anyone thinks it will be a walk in the park for Fed.
The guy is just stating the obvious.

I get the feeling, doubtless I'm wrong but I just can't help but feel that the French Open organisers just...well...don't care for Federer very much.

Yesterday's match with Hartfield was mostly attributed to Hartfield's good playing. But yeah, Federer's draw is not exactly a piece of cake.

Federer should sue him.

Really? I've had the feeling they like him quite a bit and would like him to win the tournament. I think he's quiite popular with the French spectators as well.

As I say I'm probably just imagining things.

Maybe it's just the fact that Roger has never looked all that comfortable in Paris playing tricks with my mind.

well he said on french TV that roger has a tough draw with probably nalbandian in the SF and he will struggle to beat him ;)

That's self-evident so why Bimes felt the need to say that on TV puzzles me.

well, just because the journalists asked him "do you think federer has a tough draw ?" or something like that :)

*shrug*

Could do with the context in which he said that and what else he said. Yanking quotes out for a "quote of the day" is fine but would be nice to see what else he said in context.

Why do i get the same exact feeling? Even the empty tands at yesterdays semifinals only furthered that thought but i figured they were probably getting ready to watch the world cup or.. Nadal, and i pushed the thought that maybe they just dint want to watch Nadal far back into my head. :p

Bimes you will always be a dickhead, but not solely for this prediction.
