James did really well in the first two sets. He appeared to be in complete control while Paradorn racked up the errors. However, it seemed to me that James' confidence started to waver in the third as Paradorn started whaling at the ball.

I feel Paradorn played a better third set up until the tiebreaker, but once the tiebreak started, he just seemed to break down mentally. Two horrible errors at 1-2 and 1-3 were evidence of that! He managed to get it together a bit to get two more points, but James closed out the match with a winning volley.

So, yay for James! :D

Is this JB's first ever win at RG?

No he made the 2nd round last year and had in the past too.

James played pretty well but Paradorn was just atroooocious. Bad preparation for Almagro, really.

I think it's difficult sometimes when you win the first set very easily and then your opponent starts playing better and it's confusing and frustrating.. Look at Clijsters right now -- she won the first set in 22 minutes, now she's down 1-4 in the second... So I think that's what happened to James... I thought Paradorn played some good games in the third and James let down his level a b it... P-dorn's strategy is not one that will ever work on clay, but when someone hits a huge winner, that's their point.

I think James is playing well enough to beat a lot of opponents in the draw.. unfortunately, he has probably the toughest unseeded opponent likely next.

1 match nearer to playing Nadal. If he's looking any further than Almagro, he's not as smart as I thought ;)

James could have done some damage if he hadn't drawn Almagro in the 2nd round. The court conditions aren't all that bad for James right now.

BTW, RG is playing about as fast as I have ever seen it this year.

Yeay for James! :yeah:

But Almagro will be tough.

Question - I keep hearing different things about the speed of the court. In an interview, Nico said it was slow. Then yesterday, one of the commentators said it was fast. Then today, Brad or one of the commentators said it was slow. Now you're saying it is fast.

So...which is it?

Conditions have slowed down considerably since yesterday since it is cold out there and the the wind is playing against you on one side of the court. The wind has swept off some of the clay though.

The court was playing quite quickly yesterday as lots of players were able to hit lots of winners and penetrating shots on different courts.

Thanks for the explanation NYC!

Congrats James, he needs to improve a lot to stand a chance against Almagro. James was not really good even in the first two sets, Srich was just terrible.

Srichaphan played six matches in this year's European clay court swing and won no sets, sums it up really.
