He sure it. In both singles matches he lost he was up 4-1 in the second set and did not win the set. Any idea what's up with him? Just not motivated for this? If so, that's not the attitude #3 in the world should have. Must be something else.

Whatever it is, hope he can get his mind back on the game and he gets his game and confidence back - rather see a confident, almost arrogant David who wins than one who can't close out a set.

This was a bad week - time for a fresh start at RG

Wawrinca is not an easy first round but he can do it. The only good result Wawrinca had on clay, was the Barcelona SF, then he lost in the first round of the other tournaments:
Monte Carlo lost to Di Mauro 1st round
Rome lost to Gonzalez 1st round
Hamburg lost to Seppi first round.
And their H2H is in favour of David 1-0 having beat him in Australia this year, in four sets.

At first glance his quarter is quite tough, but some of the big names are not currently at good form so let's being positive! Federer's draw is much more difficult IMO.

From L'Equipe, Sunday, 28.05.06. My French is too weak to share my translation.

by ALEXANDRE JUILLARD (avec D. B.)

l’empêchera d’aller y taper quelques balles

L’an

Avant de penser à l’après-terre battue,
David Nalbandian a l’esprit tourné vers ce
Roland-Garros, qu’il entame cet après-midi
contre le Suisse Stanislas Wawrinka.
Comme d’habitude, ses objectifs sont
simples : « Enfin gagner un tournoi du
Grand Chelem.
élevé que l’an dernier. J’ai également un an

trois tournois puis me reposer chez moi,
quitte à me prendre deux ou trois jours off.

Tango Rally Team. « C’est important pour
moi d’avoir ce genre de projet. Je prépare
déjà l’après-tennis. J’ai vingt-quatre ans, et
je pense pouvoir atteindre mon apogée
vers vingt-sept, vingt-huit ans.

Steely Nalbandian battles through on historic Sunday
By Araz Gulekjian
Sunday, May 28, 2006

Third seed David Nalbandian waltzed into the history books on his way to a 6-2 7-6(5) 6-4 win over Switzerland's Stanislas Wawrinka on Court Suzanne Lenglen, Sunday.

The 24-year-old Argentine overcame a stiff challenge by Wawrinka to move into the second round of the tournament, which started on a Sunday for the first time ever in Grand Slam history.

Nalbandian took close to three hours to close out the match, managing 31 winners to Wawrinka's 41, and connecting on 54 per cent of his first serves.

The Argentine, a semifinalist here in 2004, raced out of the starting blocks behind searing groundstrokes. He leapt to a 4-0 lead before taking the first set four games later.

Despite struggling with an inconsistent serve and without as much depth or bite to his shots, Wawrinka nevertheless found his range towards the end of the second set. He threaded a spate of wicked forehand drives to draw even at 6-6, before Nalbandian stepped up a gear to secure the set with a forehand approach winner.

The Argentine, a runner-up at Wimbledon in 2002, experiend a momentary hickup when he conceded his serve in the crucial seventh game. But he stood strong, breaking right back and earning the victory with a backhand crosscourt winner.

He now meets the winner of the match between Richard Gasquet and Yeu-Tzuoo Wang.

What about those 2 outrageous drop shots at 4-4 in the third, down 0-40. Pretty brave to try that twice in such an important game. Gasquet was on fire but Nalbo's cool, clever play put it out.

Great to see David keep his focus when Gasquet was crumbling. I kept waiting for David to "wonder off" in the fourth set but he didn't and he got the bagel.

 My feelings exactly! This afternoon I switched on the tv: it was rain delay :rain: , I turned it on a bit later: Kiefer-Gicquet (sorry if I mispelled) , came back after a while: rain again!
And this sequence repeted itself for quite a while and when I came back home at 7 or 8 o'clock PM I found myself on the highs of exasperation when I saw ES was STILL showing Kiefer!!! :banghead: I have nothing against the guy, I'm sure the match was very entertaining but the NO. 3 was playing on a different court!!!

And then there was Amelie and her 3 missed match-points! I thought she would loose the set and I wouldn't get a chance to see Nalbi. Thank God she won in time :)

I have exams at this time (like a lot of other people) and when I take a break I can't exactly miss oppotunities to see my favourite players in action, especially since ES doesn't show many ATP tournaments.

Ok, I feel so much better after expressing my frustration... I'm really enjoying the benefits of a message-board :D

David post match quote:
"In these last few months I've been playing better, I feel more at ease. There were some changes and I feel I'm growing as a player and as a person, I have another look of the sport and that means not having the little tennis ball in my head all the time. But I feel I'm doing everything I can to win a Grand Slam"

Thanks Jime. :)

I like the fact that he says he's growing up, as a player and as a person. I think he is playing much better lately, well at least he looks more confident. That's a good thing.

Good luck for tomorow!!

Yep unfortunately I think that's so...I can't believe it...why couldn't they just let him play in the "Lenglen" court? :(

Well it would have been the fifth match - right now match #3 (Moyà-Davydenko) is still underway... and on Court 2 Mario is almost thru - that means David will start soon - and hopefully finish in three cool sets LONG BEFORE it starts getting dark ;)

Live comment from Eurosport (in the fifth set).

Nalbandian D. - Tursunov D. 19:48 Tursunov looses balance and throws a forehand into the net...two match points...THAT'S IT! Tursunov floats a backhand wide and Dave looks over the moon with that. The third seed is through in five sets, 2-6 5-7 6-4 6-2 6-4.

Nalbandian D. - Tursunov D. 19:45 Tursunov holds with no drama and Dave to serve again for the match.

Nalbandian D. - Tursunov D. 19:41 Tursunov refuses to be beaten, break point for the Russian...and Dave hits long, back to 5-3 in the final set.

Nalbandian D. - Tursunov D. 19:39 Another chance for Big Dave...but a half volley finds the wrong side of the tape...back to deuce again.

Nalbandian D. - Tursunov D. 19:38 Three match points...but all saved by Tursunov as he dredges up the last of his energy to get back to deuce.

Nalbandian D. - Tursunov D. 19:36 I almost dropped my keyboard there...an ace out wide from the usually soft serving Argentine.

Nalbandian D. - Tursunov D. 19:35 Tursunov falling apart, dropping to love and now Dave can serve out the match at 5-2.

Nalbandian D. - Tursunov D. 19:32 Nalbandian on cruise control now...holding to love and looking inhumanly fresh out there.

Nalbandian D. - Tursunov D. 19:29 Danger for the Russian...double break point and a tired looking forehand goes wide gifting a break to Big Dave. 3-2 with a break for Nalbandian in the final set.

Nalbandian D. - Tursunov D. 19:26 tursunov straining every sinew in an effort to get to a Nalbandian forehand but fails to get there. followed by a rather entertaining fall looking like something from a circus. Maybe the Russian has another career as a clown if this valiant effort doesn't work out for him?

Nalbandian D. - Tursunov D. 19:22 Tursunov looking revitalised now as he moves 2-1 ahead.

Nalbandian D. - Tursunov D. 19:19 Nalbandian holds serve with considerable ease and levels at 1-1.

Nalbandian D. - Tursunov D. 19:16 Tursunov survives a long and scary service game...1-0 to the Russian and game on in the fifth!

Nalbandian D. - Tursunov D. 19:12 Pair of break-points for Dave...he blows teh first with a forehand low into the net...and the second with an errant backhand. Deuce.

Nalbandian D. - Tursunov D. 19:08 Two set points for Dave...service winner and we're into a fifth set. The Argentine has to favourite now, he looks in complete control at the moment.

As for David, I loved watching him get angry and throw his racquet...

Hey where is the hell my posts?????

I'm back temporarily. Did you forget that your posts were unsuitable for this board? This is a message board for David's fans, not for the casual asshat like yourself who gets off on trolling other players' message boards just to cause trouble.

There was a thread about Tursunov loss to David on GM, where you should have posted.

And calling David an idiot was totally out-of-line on a fan message board, so your posts justifiably got deleted. Everyone on this thread-and GM- read the stories from the Croatian and Argentine press agencies. To say the very least, the posters here gave them a casual shrug and went about their business; at the most, the thread devoted to David being what the Croatian press called "an animal" got totally ignored.

Interview with Vasallo Argüello:

-What does Nalbandian mean to you?
-He's magic. The tennis he plays is a pleasure, beautiful. I admire him, I would have loved to be like him. To have his tennis, his head, his talent, to make half a career he's done. And all that's left for him! I am and will be a fan of Nalbandian, except for tomorrow (today).

-Did you talk to him?
-Just on the first day of the tournament. He said hi like always, he asked me who I played against...David is one of the few that hasn't lost his humility. He doesn't trat me like a friend, because I'm not that, but he's always treated me with lots of respect in spite of being in two complete different levels.

EUROSPORT is NOT showing the match!!! :bigcry:
Instead, they are showing the girls WARM-UP!! I'm pretty sure that broadcasting 10-15 min from the other current match (namely David's) would have bankrupted the TV company!

P.S. He won the first set 6-4!

I was scared shitless before this match.

I had these eerie flashbacks from the Koubek slugfest of 2004 and the hideous Hanescu encounter of 2005 so I wasn't particularly thrilled about a 4th round matchup against an unknown Poor Man's Ferrer but in the end Dave fought it out quite convincingly.

Now I can proceed being scared about the quarterfinal with Davydenko although David seems to have had his number lately. For what I've seen, Davydenko has looked like a man on a mission in this tournament but after a confidence-boosting win over Tursunov and a semi-quick win over Arquello, Nalbo should be ready for the big stages.

3 last rounds (most likely): Davydenko - Federer - Nadal. Anyone who survives that is surely the well-deserved champion.

Toni Nadal:

http://www.ole.clarin.com/jsp/v4/pagina.jsp?pagId=1209785&fecha=20060606

-Would you like to see David and Rafa facing each other for the first time in their careers?
-I'm fond of Nalbandian, but it would be better for him for him to lose because he's the most dangerous to Rafa. He plays brilliantly and he's more close in the ranking because of the points.

-Will Nalbandian beat Davydenko?
-He's the favourite. He beat him several times and he did it again not long ago in Estoril.
