There are loads of articles today in the Argentine Press - sorry I do not have time to translate them all. Basically they say that Willy can't wait to start again :) He has already asked for a Wild Card into the Romania Open in Bucharest which starts just after the ban ends. His new coach will be Gastón Etlis (former doubles player) and they are already working together on his fitness now. He has also been practising with whichever of the Argentine players have been around over the past few months, - and gives special thanks to Juan Mónaco, Mariano Zabaleta and Carlos Moya who were among the players who wrote in a petition of support to help his Appeal. Here are some links (in Spanish):-

http://www.ole.clarin.com/diario/2006/09/11/fotos/f050gh01.jpg

http://www.ole.clarin.com/diario/2006/09/11/fotos/f051gh05.jpg

Volvió a sonreir

I hope this isn't truth, then it would make things harder for Willy.
I'm not so sure .... only a rumour, but I heard on radio that Willy asked for a WC to Bucharest (or another tournament in these weeks, I don't remember exactly).
Apparently first he received a yes, but days later, mysteriously, this YES were transformed into NO (the rumor spoke about negative influences of people from ATP) :tape:

Either it wouldn't surprise to me ... considering that this case demonstrated problems in ATP mechanisms (and people from ATP)

Sorry, but I cant explain this in english...

I'm very proud of Willy :).
He faced an injust ban of a lot of time and no matter how hard i try to get in his shoes, i can't imagine how he got the strenght to continue practicing, fight for his innocence, suffer trash talk by some of his fellow players and who knows what else. And he even won the first tournament he played after the suspension was done.
If that happened to me, i would probably quit, get depressed and live all my life feeling ashamed because i did not do enough to prove my innocence. All this shows how Willy has a great heart, a lot of faith and an iron will :)

I was always a big fan of Guillermo, but nowadays i'm even more proud.

I wish him the best of luck in this long road back to the top. I know he can make it, and if he doesn't, it's ok, i know he will work hard and that's what counts.

I probably sound a bit delusional and exagerated, but that's how i've been feeling since his return :)

Quito Chellenger, Ecuador.

Willy Cañas defeated Bruno Echagaray 6-7, 6-1 y 7-5. :)

Now he will face the winner of Brian Dabul (Arg.) - Hugo Armando (USA).

EDIT: Well it seems the article where I got the info was wrong...

This Draw (http://www.cre.com.ec/Desktop.aspx?Id=294) says Cañas will face the winner between Santiago Gonzalez (MEX) and Pablo Gonzalez (COL).

Suerte Willy,

Cañas defeated Santiago González (Mex.) 4-6 6-2 6-2 and made the quarters in the Challenger of Quito, Ecuador. :)

Now he will play against Horacio Zeballos (Arg.), who is ranked 284.

so far two hard matches, that in the previous didn't seem so difficult, but as Willy said yesterday, the tournament is in Quito and his two oponents (both Mexicans) they are much accustomed to altitude effects

It´s still incredible to see the power with which he comes back - although you know that he has already done it before and that he´s a fighter with a big heart.
Today he has won in just 49 minutes with 6:2, 6:1 to Zeballos and reached the semifinal. I hope so much that he´ll reach the top 10 again - he really earns it.

His mental strength is admirable. Others in the same situation would find it hard coming back yet again thinking how much of their career they had lost.
Good luck for the semis!!

True :) Plus he has a tremendous amount of pride and also a big point to prove - he knows he was treated badly and was innocent all along - now he has a chance to prove everyone wrong who doubted him.

Willy, you really made me proud today :worship:

I thought he wasn't going to be able to handle melzer in Austria, but he seems to be getting in form like in past years :)

It's impressive to think that he was unranked and hadn't played a match in a long time, just a little more than 5 months ago  :yeah:
