LMAO at you mate! Cant believe you said that... but I assume you mean in an 'ass kicking' sort of way. Poor old Rainer... but I've gotta say, Joachim has been fantastic in practice and he played brilliantly in the qualifying. I saw his first two matches, then watched bogomolov instead (I could hear his scores against mahut...3-1, 4-, 5-1... set pimpim...)
lol! Good luck to jhim! I just posted this same thing in the pimpim thread ;)

Kristen
PS. Thinking of a potential third round meeting with the potato himself. What will Jaslyn do! Separate herself from the clan!? lol...

Whoa! Did anyone see that match? Did Rainer play really badly or was Joachim that good? Great upset though, but not good for Rainer, obviously. His ranking is not going to be good after the AO! Poor him..

Another thing i should add

Schuettler was the ATP websites One to Watch for this week.

Guess the curse has continued from last season :tape:

LOL! Let's hope Tommy and Karol won't be mentioned as One to watch!

Ah yes...the continuation of the curse. Poor Rainer though. Two consecutive losses to much lower-ranked players can't be a good sign.

At least none of the top top players will be put under the course. ;)

:woohoo: Pim-pim!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But seriously, something is wrong with Schuettler. He's not the same player he was last year. I feel badly for him.

But still. Pim-Pim!!! (I've liked him ever since I saw his name in the junior draw at the French Open when he was just a tyke, so excuse my elation.)

But wait a sec. Isn't Pim Pim in the same quarter of the draw as his girlfriends brother?

I didn't read much about his losses, but is it because of fatigue? I can imagine him being tired by now.

Rainer hasnt won a match all year :o
At his rate he wont defend his AO points.

Pim Pim quote

""I should say thanks to him (Hewitt) because I practiced with him for two weeks and he introduced me to a higher level. We've been playing golf every day as well, so she [Jaslyn] gets a little bit jealous."

maybe it takes some time for Schuettler to get his rythm this year... but he has to find it quick, because he has an enormous 700 points to defend in the next tournament...

uhoh, does this mean that there will be a thread solely for Rainer's loses???

Let's hope not! :) I really hope he'll get his rhythm back, especially after such a superb year last year. It would be terrible to see him spoil his ranking.

Wow, nice job Johansson. :yeah:

Rainer! Get with the program.

Schuettler has much more pressure now than last year, because everybody expects him to win against those lesser ranked players. Maybe thatīs the reason he looses so early.

No. Ha had this pressure the last year as well. And he won most of the matches against lower ranked players and a lot of against higher ranked players last year. That's the reason he climbed into the top 10.
Maybe he'll lose early in Melbourne. But he's a high-potential player and I guess the only one who had a better ranking than the year before at the end of the season - seven years in a row! He'll come back (if you call it a slump to lose two matches in a row :o )!

tomtom, I donīt think many people exspected Schuettler last year to do as well as he did. But this year they do. And the next step he has to take after reaching such a high ranking postion is winning a big title (Masters Series or Grand Slam). I can imagine him getting a bit nervous with this prospect.

Rainer played terribly in Doha and obviously dit it again here.

He needs a lucky draw at AO to get into rhythm.

I consider it's a slump because Rainer was a very consistent player last year. He rarely lost in early rounds and to qualifer. I really can't recall if he had lost consecutive 1st round matches last year.

if it happens again, then its a minor slump. losing 2 matches in a row isn't a slump just yet

Very well done from Joachim's part....

Rainer fluked last year, just like Novak did a year before - there is always someone

In theory, Rainer can lose in the first round of Australia... and not drop a single spot in the rankings.

As for Rainer being a "fluke" and "just like Novak"... I'm willing to buy that his Slam Final was a fluke, in that I doubt that single event will ever happen again. But Rainer was consistent the entire season. That is what ended him at number 6. Take off his Australian Open finalist points, and he is STILL number 6.

Imo, you can't "fluke" a season.

Surely he wont finish #6 next year, somewhere around 12th is probable.

I don't see him winning back to back titles again but him making 4th round at slams is to be expected

I agree that last season was likely the best he'll ever have. And I agree that he'll likely stay in the top 15.

Back to back titles is possible if the field is weak and he's in decent form, but I wouldn't bet the house on it happening.

I can see him making the quarters of a slam, if the draw opens up for him right... especially while he's still holding a top 8 seed.

Well, Shuettler better get his act together. Losing to players he shouldent. I'm afraid i dont see another Aussie Open final from shuettler unless he picks up form. Actually, i dont see a second round win with this form, becuase the guys that he's losing to right now will be most likely the ones he'll face ib the 1st-2nd rds!
