Mardy :yeah: strong list, nice cutoff for a challenger

Yeah, apart from projestov its the strongest one in that week it seems. Projestov is very very strong, the wta event even has 14-15 top 100 players entered. Although, because its clay you will most likely get alot more withdraw :D due to french open.

 Why?

Hasn't he had enough already.

It would be an absolute disgrace if LTA give Flip anymore WC's , but then you couldn't put it past them.

Yeah todd reid I think it is? Not sure though.

What happened to mark last year, he was meant to be playing and then didnt show up? Was he injured or what?

BTW Is anyone else going to this event?

In regards to this event if needed he will get a WC... but he will probably get direct entry anyway because he's 2nd on the list.. i dont think he shoud've gotten as many wc's as he has for other events - but for grass events i think his results at wimbledon make him worthy regardless of ranking ect... but thats just my opinion.

1998 - qtr
1999 - qtr
2000 - qtr
2001 - out injured
2002 - r16
2003 - final

todd reid??!!! ... unfortunately forget about todd, sam stosur's 2nd serve is faster then todds 1st. More like chris Gucci, is next aussie prospect - but he still hasnt won anything significant on tour... he hasnt been able to make the step up from challenger level yet.

a player of philipousis stature shouldnt really need help getting into events, its been a long time now, if he was still good enough he'd b back up at the top, compare with fish and blake, look how qucikly they are getting back up. if hes good enough on grass he should be able to qualify.
either that or chnage the whole WC selection process and have all challenger/atp/GS wc's decided by an independent commitee.

Toddy Reid got WCs before, but Philippoussis was meant to play last year; and was there with Alexis, but I can't remember why he didn't play - I can't remember if the problem was to do with her, or whether he just didn't feel great. But anyway, that's a very rough story of it!

I've seen Guccione prac quite a lot this week and last, and I would be surprised if Surby offers him a WC, not sure he is even ready for that yet!

no it was due to a back problem, i think.

As for alexis being a "pain in the ass"...

One buddy who has spent a lot of time with the couple recently says Alexis Barbara is a good influence on the Scud. ``She's a very calming influence on him. She's a very sophisticated young lady and is switched on,'' the insider said.

"He's been unbelievably professional and I think Alexis has been fantastic for him" - ex-coach

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but to continue to give 'pousis wildcards is a disgrace - He has played 16 events in the last 13 months of which 15 (yes - fifteen) were wildcards, and he didnt do much with them at that - see
http://www.itftennis.com/mens/players/activity.asp?player=10006915

I hope he either makes the draw or withdraws and gives someone else a chance!

I'm guessing Rusedski will get one of the wild cards as he usually does giving him more chance to play some matches on grass, as he wont be in the second week of the french open. I guess players such as parmar, lee or baker may get the other wild cards, but the LTA could give them to anyone seeing their recent record

Havent heard of him, will keep and eye out though!

He have beaten last year Surbiton winner Bracciali twice this year, once indoor (1st round Zagreb) and once on clay (qualies at Hamburg). And he had hit 153 mph serve in doubles davis cup rubber against GB in Glasgow, so I guess he could be real danger out there.

Although, Ilija said that he'll play qualies for Queens, I don't know when the final is played in Surbiton, it would be nice if it is on Saturday, I wouldn't like to see him tanking his match.

I would go for Queens, if Ilija plays Surbiton SF/F then he's got nothing to play till Wimbledon qualies, he cann't play at Nottingham because of Wimbledon.

If he plays Queens (and qualifies) he'll play three consecutive weeks on grass before Wimbledon (main tournament) and that is the best option in my opinion.

Don't forget that men's qualifying doesnt start until Sunday (mind Ladies is not published either!)

Will appear HERE (http://surbiton.lta.org.uk/Results/Results.htm) when available.

Mens Wildcards still not announced officially although ladies were 3 days ago!
They should be able to announce them now though as Philippousis is definitely in main draw. :D

Just when I thought the LTA were getting their act together and improving the website, they sliiped back into their old ways of tardiness or of secrecy - I hope that the players know who and when they are playing, it's just tough luck on anyone who wishes to go and watch a particular player, especially if they have no contact with that player.

Bloomfield - Baker 7/6 7/5 (they told me this result in office)

Well they obviously told the Press Agency / BBC (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/tennis/uk_results/default.stm) 6-4 7-5 that's what they are listing.

also Sporting Life (http://www.sportinglife.com/tennis/results/story_get.cgi?STORY_NAME=results_update/06/06/06/TENNIS_Surbiton_Results.html)

I expect one of them may be correct :D but at least it doesnt change the result!

He played so much better than last year though, he could have won if he'd took chances at the begining of the third

Delic's serve was just too good when he needed it to be

Good luck to Mardy/Jeff and Robby/Bobby in doubles

Bastl-Reynolds had a very good match, Reynolds playing very well. I also saw him plays dubs with Robbie - RG hit a through-legs on MP :D Lost the point but they won the next.

Boziljac was funny, told the umpire that if they thought that 'the' ball was in, then they should admit this is not the job for them; return their badge and never come back  I thought legend!

J-Gizzel has an awesome beard :D Him and Ashley scraped through their dubs!!

Jim & Jordan also just came through, some good matches. Saw Siobhan of course!

Did anyone see the Bloomfield-Baker match today ?

If so what did you think ? Did Jamie play well, did he miss chances ? Was Bloomfield's massive serve just too good ?

Jamie hustled well, but was always behind really. Richard should have closed out serving at *5-4 in the second but hit like 4 approach shots in a row out, and lost his serve to love.

He really did. I'm surprised by that result.

Someone jump on Gimel and give him a hug for me (be warned, he's the WORST hugger, but he's wonderful anyway). I miss him lots since I'm not online at the same time as him anymore (and he misses me too, how sweet). :)

Good win for Ameeeeerrrrr!!

Did you take any pics of the Baker-Bloomfield match ?

How was Jamie serving ?

Richard's serve is so massive on grass, it was always going to be a tough one for Jamie, Richard has a good chance of reaching quarters now so good luck to him.

Aleksa's Laydee
06-07-2006, 11:37 AM
No i didnt, there was a fence in the way so the piccies would have been rubbish. Jamie was very sun tanned/burnt bless him. He wasn't serving too bad, saved bps.

After he went to watch Fleming/Murray v Fish/Morrison!

lol, he usually will spend a fair amount of time signing for fans.. esp in OZ - usually 20mins after a practice session he will stick around and try and make everyone happy.. Its side to mark that never gets mentioned.

gosh he better win today. GO MARK!!
