HAMBURG: Another Bad Draw - Do Your Best Nico!

Nico's ranked #32 right now.

32 seeds at Roland Garros.

Its now or never to make sure he stays in the top 32. Last week to get points before the seeds come out.

There are 3 players ahead of him that aren't playing - Andre, Andreev, and someone else that the person who told us can't remember. I'll try to find out.

That obviously pulls him up to #29 in the seeds as of right now.

(I hope I'm figuring this all right - I'm clueless at these rankings things - if I'm wrong, please let me know so I can fix this before too many people read it. :haha: )

He's worked so hard to get there - hopefully he can do it! He totally deserves it! :yeah:

VAMOS NICO! YOU CAN DO IT!

FYI.

The main draw is pulled tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. Hamburg time.

That's 8:00 a.m. Chile time.

Probably will take an hour or two before they post it on their web site.

Massu doesn't defend points in Hamburg because they were erased this week and the other player that withdrew is Lleyton.

Good luck to Nico in the draw. Of course having said that, I realize there is no such thing  Still, I will hope for the best.

I can't believe this. Another sucky draw.

I'm really tired of this - I don't even want to follow the match.

There goes the seeding for Roland Garros.

I woke up and the first thing that I did was to turned on the tv to follow the semifinals and then I heard the commentators saying the great news of the "GREAT" draw that we got  I can't freaking believe this shit!!!! :fiery:

The next time I'll ask for a tough draw, then maybe we'll get the opposite .... this just sucks!!! :ras: and Davydenko wans't feeling very good in Rome and he retired against Almagro but I'm sooo sure that he'll be excellent for Nico's match, because that's our lovely luck :sobbing:

Yes ... good bye to the seeding in RG :hysterical:

But still ... BUENA SUERTE NICO!!! WE'LL SUPPORT YOU NO MATTER WHAT

Not a good draw but....Nico can come through. I've found that often when I think the draw is awful my favs do well and vice versa. Last time Nico had a Qualifier which should be easier but ...well, that qualifier went on to challange Roger in the quarters so you never know.

Anyway, while being realistic, I'm not going to give up hope :) .

I'm glad I saw your post. Maybe we should change some of our favorite players. I like both Tommy and Nico also and they both just seem to get terrible draws :fiery: Of course, it makes things even more difficult for me because I'm also a Nadal fan. I think I just have too many favorite players

TommyB and Mae - yeah Tommy H never gets good draws either and is another player with absolutely no luck. I like TommyH too...he's on the honorable mention list because only players from Spain or South America can be on my favorite list. I know....silly.

Someone told me that before Nico got to be a top player that he trained in Florida for awhile and was TommyH's practice partner a lot. Don't know if that's true or not though because it was before I started watching Nico.

TommyB - have a great time in Hamburg!!! Are you also going to Dusseldorf?

@NicoFan

Of course...both players have no luck in the moment with the draws especially at TMS. I think it´s true that Nico and Tommy H. practiced in Florida and also during some tournaments.

Thanks...hope i have a great time and the chance to see some matches with both guys. I´m really nervous!! :D

I try it with Düsseldorf...but only to the final Chile vs. Germany (Nico vs. Tommy) ;) . No i´m not sure in the moment. TV will show the WTC here in germany so it isn´t a problem if i can´t go to Düsseldorf.

NicoFan
05-15-2006, 04:53 PM
I think like Sparko said it was probably too late for them to get out of the draw for doubles.

And Hamburg really wasn't fair to them by putting their doubles match on Monday when they were just playing. Usually the tournament the next week doesn't make a player who makes the SFs or finals in the previous tournament play right away.

Sparko1030
05-15-2006, 04:55 PM

That must have been a total bummer TommyB! Did you get to see Tommy H's double match at least?

Please give Nico all the luck you can tomorrow!! :)

Yes i saw the double match with Tommy H...this one was really nice with a good atmosphere (like Davis-Cup) on the showcourt. Alex Waske on fire...he is totally crazy when he played with Tommy. They made this day a little bit pleasent for me. :)

I do it if course!! :fiery:

what other matches did you see Tommy???

I saw only double matches: Haas/Waske vs Berdych/Levinsky and Schüttler/Kohlmann vs. Bhupathi/Ginepri partly.

I had not much time today...the most single matches were finished when i arrived the courts and i had no tickets for the CC today.

Well - see you all for RG....where now he won't be seeded.

Well I could care less about WTC. But as Kid reminded me, Nico loves to play for Chile. To me its a wasted week - no points. And he's had too many of those weeks this year - 2 weeks for DC (though he had to do those), Dusseldorf, and surprisingly he signed up for the Boodles Challenge - again no points. But he knows what he's doing ... maybe he thinks its a good warmup for RG.

Hi!

What can i say? I´m disappoint and very sad about these scores today (Nico lost and Tommy H retired once more).  :bigcry:

I saw Nico and really happy above it. I think he had some problems with the conditions on court...and the weather especially. Nico played not bad but problems with the return games in the second set (to harmless i must say) and with his serve (percentage mainly) in the first set. Davydenko used his chances (big points) consistent and played solid all the time.

Our guy fought but it wasn´t enough today against a further top player like Davydenko. At all I saw Nico for the first time this year so i can´t say if he played better or not as the last time...unsuccessful of course.

But i´m glad to see him (he looked at me once  ) and confident for the next weeks. VAMOS NICO!! :)

Thanks for the report Tommy Girl. Tommy having to retire is so scary. Hope its nothing serious. After Rafa pulled out I thought Tommy would do well. Bad luck all round it seems.

About Dusseldorf-I wasn't thrilled they were going to do it again but Kid is right, it does mean a lot to both of them and that can't be measured I guess. Hopefully Nico will do well and have some fun and then kick some butt at RG.

Interview with Nico in Radio Cooperativa:

After losing for third consecutive time in the first round of a Masters Series, the viñamarino analyzed with calm his moment and was shown unworried by the eventuality of not to be seeded in Roland Garros.

Nicolas Massú (32º) was eliminated Tuesday in the first round of the Masters Series of Hamburg, just as occurred in Montecarlo and Rome, but far from being worried, the viñamarino was taken with tranquility this bad gust of wind of results, vouched for by the good tennis that has shown in his judgment.

"I believe that I am playing well, perhaps I am not playing extraordinary, but I am playing well enough, I am doing the things well", affirmed Massú in dialogue with Radio Cooperativa.

The Olympic champion considered that "in the court I believe that I have had good matches, perhaps not in important moments where has touched me to close or exactly important perhaps I have not played so well as to win the matches".

"I have lost the matches there, by a break in a set, a that another important ball that it I have not played well and the truth is that in Montecarlo, Rome and here the same thing has passed me and is to expect that continue not me passing", added.

Massú runs the risk of be not head of series in Roland Garros the next one great challenge after the World Cup by Teams of Düsseldorf. Nevertheless, this neither restless al number two national.

"My goal was to arrive seeded to Roland Garros and I am there. I depend on some results, of some players that be erased and I hope to be seeded. If not, I will try to do possible the best", commented.

"I do not worry a lot of the pictures, because when touches you in the first round is difficult, already later in second or third when already you won a match the thing is seen different. But to win Roland Garros and for arrive up one has to win him to all", added.

Looks from Judio's calculation that he will miss it by one. He's ranked 35 right now, and 34 is the cutoff to be seeded for RG.

Which means the only way he can be seeded is for another person to drop out.

The joy of RG coming up is now gone.

:bigcry:

kidnicky
05-18-2006, 02:33 PM
Oh well, maybe someone else will drop out, you never know besides maybe he'd have better luck with the draw if he's not seeded, I mean there's no such thing as a good draw on these kind of tournaments, and to be seeded doesn't mean that you'll get in the first round a player that's beyond the 100, we got a qualifier the last RG and everyone know what happened so well I'm sad because he won't be seeded, but not for the possible draw (I'm used to bad ones now) is because I know that he wanted to acomplish this goal.

NicoFan, great letter for Adidas :yeah: we should send it today

NicoFan
05-18-2006, 02:39 PM
You're right - last year he got a qualifier and it was a first round loss.

But in Slams, to be seeded is very important unlike in a Masters Series event where every draw is pretty much a bad draw.

So this is truly bad news for him.

We can only hope that someone else drops out.

kidnicky
05-18-2006, 02:53 PM
Well NicoFan, he's calmn (or at least he's trying to do it) so we've to be calmn :p .... we can only hope to not have another top ten in the first round and well we'll see what happens, we never got good luck on grand slams so I'll try to take a pill to not make an scene like the last year  he did great at our beloved USO :p so I'm expecting more from that.

And if Nico weren't in "trouble" with his ranking, I'd preffer for him to skp the all grass season :haha:
