Well I am leaving for Munich first thing tomorrow, and my Internet time may be limited in the next few weeks - so thought I would start this now to wish Juan luck in Munich next week (where he has quarter final points to defend), and then the quallies of Rome and Hamburg. I will check in here as and when I can - and write reports on Juan's matches. I am travelling directly from Munich to Rome, and then coming home for a few days before maybe heading to the Hamburg quallies, so it will be a pretty busy time for me :wavey:

Juan is bottom half of the draw, here is the third quarter he has to battle through first:

(6) SRICHAPHAN, Paradorn v MONACO, Juan
VIK, Robin v SCHUETTLER, Rainer
(WC) WASKE, Alexander v MAYER, Florian
PAVEL, Andrei v (3) NIEMINEN, Jarkko

Of course the Srichaphan match has to be considered as a must-win match on clay for him. The 2nd round against Vik/Schüttler is also winnable for him. So yes, he has a good look in that draw and there is something possible :yeah:

Björki

Kohlmann/Schüttler vs Serra/Srichaphan

 You are so right...................:fiery: Heads are going to roll for that partnership! Anyway - here I am in Munich - weather is nice - Juan and Team have gone to practice - I am staying in the Hotel to unpack and chill out a bit - had the journey from hell here yesterday - so many delays  so need to rest today. Anyway - will be in touch as and when I can - though there is only one PC here in the Hotel so Internet time is limited.........especially when you are being glared at by people who want to use it ASAP................... :wavey: for now!!!

Hi - just to say - just come back from the match - Juan won 6-4, 6-4. Not so much to say about the match really. Juan played adequately - Paradorn is not a clay court player and gave him lots of chances. Paradorn just hits the ball hard - he does not have so much strategic sense about clay and does not know how to move - so all Juan had to do was stay at the back of the court, be patient and be accurate. He lost his serve at the beginning of the 2nd set, but broke back soon enough and the rest was easy. He was very happy (I think more than a little relieved) to have won relatively simply - he hasn´t been doing so well lately so any win becomes harder and is needed for his confidence. Sorry I didn´t stay to see the dreaded Coria doubles match - it was gettig chilly out there and I don´t think it will take place today anyway, as all the matches were long today and things were running late. I have very little Internet time here - so that is all for now :wavey:

Do not worry about my babies! When I´m away, my oldest friend from schooldays comes to stay in my house to look after the house and my cats. She only lives in a small apartment and can´t have pets herself  so she loves to come and stay and take care of them - she spoils them even more than I do and they´re always glad to see her and very fat when I get home :D I text her night and morning to check up on them!!i

Pfeew. Was worried there for a moment. ;) I have a friend that does that for Bert and Ernie(two most notorious cats in Costa Rica) although she doesn't come to stay at my house, because she lives only 10 minutes from here. And I return the favor for her, when she's away like now. I'm actually about to go to her house to water the plants and feed Sophie and Haggis.
I'll stop this now since it's totally :topic: sorry people.

Well it was a horrible match - but Juan has only himself to blame - he played a horrible match - really careless :fiery: He could (and should) have won easily. He broke twice in the 1st set, and was serving for the set at 6-5, but contrived to make some ridiculous errors and lose it. He then served for the 2nd set and lost it, before somehow managing to pull it out - but it was only a matter of time because Vik was mentally stronger than him. Even when Juan went a break up in the 3rd, you knew he would lose  I haven´t really put my finger on his problem yet - he tries hard, he fights until the end, he runs after everything................but somehow - his concentration is just dreadful - he makes one great shot and then celebrates for the next 10 minutes and loses the next few points!! Everytime he broke Vik he just then let Vik break him straight back! Anyway - I am not unduly bothered - it was a fun afternoon and I have dinner to go to now and a chocolate cake to share with my friends - not sure if Juan deserves a piece yet though!!!

As for the doubles - he was tired and Coria was blatantly disinterested - they lost 1-6, 3-6.

And Peggy - thanks for the thread

What a silly boy our Juan is  He lost that match with Santoro 6-4,2-6, 3-6, but if he had CONCENTRATED a bit more he would have won. He played better than Fabrice for most of the match - made some marvellous winners down the line, and was a break up in the final set - but Fab has much more experience and tennis knowledge than Juan - and he just bided his time until our man lost concentration again  - and bang - the match went the Frenchman's way. I enjoyed the match (despite the heat and the ghastly mosquito bites) - but Juan MUST learn to FOCUS if he is ever going to win matches like this and progress further. Coaches can only do so much - they can help you with technique - but your head is all your own work - so next time FOCUS Juanito  or the people who can help you will lose patience!

And - Linda - I was not lying - I do NOT like Rome - can't wait to get out of the noisy place to some nice Northern city like Hamburg or Stockholm where people don't feel the need to shout at you or pinch your a** to get attention! Bye for now :wavey:

Hi

I was at Juan`s match today. It was a hard fought match, he played really well, he fought back from being 2 breaks down in the first set and really played his heart out. He just said that Soderling was too tough today. It was a good fight.

Exactly - 114  Then people wonder why I get disappointed and angry with him sometimes  Mind you - to be fair - it is not quite so bad as it looks. Although the Entry Ranking is 114 (mainly due to points from Casablanca Final coming off) - his place in this year's Champions' Race is 66 (only a few below Coria  ) - which proves that his performances this year have been slow but steady and better overall than this time last year. We must just wait and see I guess. I know I've said this before - but his main problem isn't lack of talent it is lack of FOCUS and CONCENTRATION - and he makes me very mad sometimes because of it :fiery: People with much less talent are much higher in the rankings because they can keep themselves together at the important moments ............. :banghead: Only people like Safin can manage to do both - and Safin is a far better player than Juan and most others will ever be so you can't really compare him to anyone! OK - rant over!!

Yes :) In fact it was quite warm today!

Today Juan played a one-set exhibition against Rafael Nadal. It was part of the annual Benny Berthet Charity Day for disadvantaged kids. He lost of course (3-6) but played pretty well after a very nervous start.................I guess it must be nerve wracking to come out in front of a packed crowd on the main court to play the reigning champion  To be there was good experience for him though.

:yeah: It's nice to see him with this attitude and good luck!!

Hi everybody :wavey:
Got back from RG last night. I saw Pico train on tuesday and tried to get into his match against Van Gemerden.
I was so angry because I couldn't get in. The match was on a very small court with not many seats. And the whole population of Melle Van Gemerden's village had come to watch him play. I felt so sorry for Juan, there where only Dutch people cheering Van Gemerden on. I actually stood in line to get in next to Raymond Sluiter, who eventually got in because somebody was smart enough to make place for him. So I gave up and stood on the steps of court Suzanne Lenglen with some Argentines, screaming VAMOS PICO! Actually it was quite funny because we could only see there heads. :rolls:

I heard Pico played very good, but I also saw the Verdasco/Chela match and Verdasco looked really good, so it will be a tough one for Pico.

I did take some pictures of the training but I won't have time to sort them out until monday, so patience please. :D

Found this in bundesliga site. Juan is mentioned here but I just can't make out what's written. Maybe it says nothing (new).

Anyway, GOOD LUCK! :)

I didn't understand, is he in Germany right now?

The article in German only says he's playing for the Rochus Club in the Bundesliga this year, Reiko. You can find all the informations about the Bundesliga in JMG's thread, the article doesn't say anything new:
http://www.menstennisforums.com/showthread.php?t=75490
His team is playing today, but his name isn't in the order of play, so I don't think he is in Germany.

(But thanks for the article, I had completely forgotten about this Bundesliga thing!)

Truc

The Bundesliga is just on Sunday, it's not a problem for Stuttgart.
I guess he plays this round because he's already in Germany. It doesn't mean he will play the other rounds for his team. Maybe 1 or 2 more while he is in Europa.

(The Bundesliga is not important, it is just $$ for the foreign players who are playing for the German clubs. But I mentioned it because who knows, maybe somebody lives in the area of Neuss and is interested - according to the article, Santoro, Beto, Horna and Juan are supposed to play for the team today.)

He won against Vliegen 6/3 1/0,I don't know what happened to him that forced him to retire. That's good because after a long match like the one against Berrer, Juan didn't have to run and get so tired. Now he'll play Melzer.

Does someone have any photos,please?

Well, Juan lost, but he did play a good match today. He lost focus when he was break up, but semifinal is still a very good result and it's no shame to lose to Chucho. Congrats Juan :) The hug between Pico and Chucho at the end was really cute!

Good luck to Juan in Kitz :) And everyone who is lucky to be there, have fun cheering for Juan and partying :)

Problems of concentration or no problems of concentration, Juan played a really good match. I don't think I've ever seen him fight like that before. Even in the third he was still going for it. Well done Juan. :clap2:

He won the first round in Kitzbuehel by defeating Azzaro 6-4 6-2.:)
He'll play Gaudio but if he plays well like last week or like today, I suppose he can win. Gaudio is playing so bad lately.
Maybe Juan has a chance for the Davis Cup.

:)

Though in German, some match description of Juan's Sopot match against Melzer from J.Melzer's diary at sport1.at (http://www.sport1.at/coremedia/generator/id=3425466.html):

Vamos, Juan! :tennis:

He should be playing the USO. At least, he is 91 on the entry list.

He played New Haven qualy and lost in the 1st round:
Juan MONACO (ARG) vs Alex KUZNETSOV (USA) 4-6 5-7

Then, he will play Bucharest, Mumbai and hopefully Tokyo.

I'm hoping to see him in Tokyo - I mean see him winning a lot there!
