Sorry, I just noticed this result now, even though the match took place a while ago. But is this a huge win for Misha or what?! :D A win over the #6 player in the world will do wonders for his confidence, especially since he has so many points to defend in the upcoming weeks. If he doesn't post decent results during this Australian season, his ranking will plummet ... but this is definitely a good omen. A particularly satisfying win after their last two matches in the fall season, both won by Rainer (the first was a choke, the second was a straight-set thwomping).

:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

How far do you peoples think Youzhny can go this year? I think it's about time he starts to make some improvement and challenges for the Top 20.

This mean's Roddicks chances of winning the tournement are much higher. I am still rooting for Philippoussis and Henman, 2 guys that can beat roddick. Remarkably both are Serve-Volleyers, so it would seem as though Roddick has a tough time playing against GOOD Serve-Volley players!

Well Roddick's record against Youzhny isn't much better. ;) Oh man, I'd crap my pants if Misha actually gets to the final, even if he loses to Roddick.

Thanks for the image Leo...

But anyway, must've gotten his cue from Marat :woohoo: Tho it seems Mikhail peaks at this time of year...

Of Course not!! I'm quite aware of the players he has trouble with, so i can root for them! ;) He also has trouble with consistant power baseliners. Well I dont think "Misha" will win the title, which means he may well have to get by Henman, & it appears as though tim's in the form that led him to winning in Paris last year

It's a good win...But i would have wanted a three setter from schuettler even if he had lost...too bad....

Oh well, maybe both of them can win the doubles!

its not only S&V that trouble the duck, its one-handed backhanded guys too, wonder where my thread went ;)

Misha :D good start to yr :)
and Rainer looked pretty drained for his 1st match of 2004. Couldnt have happened to a nicer fellow

He'll be back, TBE, he'll be back. They can both threaten Roddick, it's true, but if either one were to get into a winning position I know which one I'd pick to close it out rather than choke it away, as Youzhny did the last time he met Roddick.

Those are fightin' words. :p But unfortunately they're also very true. :(

Today he lost 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 to Sargsian. :( That's it, I won't ever again jinx Misha by posting a thread like this after one of his wins. ;)

Don't worry. At least he wasn't hyped by his country to win Wimbledon, only to come up short every year. ;)

well, sargsian is not a very bad player you know... it's not such a bad thing to lose in three sets... it must be quite close...the match i think....

Yes, I actually like Sargsian very much. I think in some weays he's underachieved so far in his career. Nevertheless, after beating Schuetterl, I expected Youzhny to win. Some big points will be dropping off due to the fact that he had semifinal points to defend.
