Congratulations Fernando :worship: :worship:

Here’s a very good piece written by Fernando himself about it. I'm posting the original in Spanish and the translation below.

Translation:

To be top ten is a dream that I always had since I was a boy. Until now I dreamed about that word. And yesterday, after winning against Ivan Ljubicic, I reached that goal that all tennis player hope to reach someday. Theoretically to be 11 or 10 it is almost the same. It is a mathematical question more than any other thing. But in any case it is a success that I was looking for since a long time. Last year I was in a position to locate me between the 10 best ones of the world. I played the Masters de Shanghai but missed it by one match. A couple of times other players asked me how much it lacks to me to be top 10 and for all those that we are on the tour it is clearly something very important to reach.

This season I did not begin in the best form. The results did not come and I have had some physical problems, like the pain in the right shoulder that had affected my game. I am honest when I say that this was more difficult for me than expected and for that reason the top ten arrives at a less awaited moment. Nevertheless, the important thing is that I obtained it in Monte Carlo, a great tournament; one of most traditional in the circuit and it was the third time in my career that I reached the semifinals of a Masters Series.

I know that for Chile it is also an important success. Only three national tennis players, in addition to Luis Ayala when the computer ranking did not exist, have been within the 10 best ones. Marcelo Rios who I followed by television when he obtained his profits, and Nicolas Massú who I have seen very close because we have grown together. They also were top ten and it is a great honour now to be in this selected group.

I fulfilled an important goal, but my idea is to continue growing. One always aspires to more and hopefully I can reach the top 5. But so far I can say that this took a load off my mind, because this goal was always circling in my head.

I want to take it also as an extra impulse within the improvement that I am making. Already for weeks I have been feeling better. The triumph against James Blake in Davis Cup where I came back from 2 sets down, was an very important impulse to be able to arrive at where I am now. Just like to overcome Carlos Moyá in first round and to save three match points in the match against the Spaniard Feliciano Lopez. I won against Robin Soderling who I never had beaten before. And now I am in semifinals, where I have a very important test against Roger Federer. It is clear that the Swiss is enough steps above the rest, but I do not have anything to lose. I believe that I have the shots, the power and the force to overcome him. To my favor there's the fact that I have won to other numbers one in activity. I won against Lleyton Hewitt in 2002 to advance to the semifinals in Cincinnati and later I defeated Andre Agassi the 2003, in Washington. To beat Federer now would be incredible, because it is clear that he is the called player to change the history of world-wide tennis. I cannot do more than to play and hoping for a triumph.

ESPERO QUE FERRER NO LLEGUE A CUARTOS EN BARCELONA
SINO PASARÁ AL FEÑA Y LO SACARÁ DE LOS TOP 10

SIN EMBARGO, FERRER DEFIENDE 225 PTS LA PROX SEMANA Y AHI PODRIA PERDER ALGUNOS PUNTOS

IGUAL GRANDE FEÑA!!!!

With Ferrer losing to Wawrinka Gonzalez will keep his top ten ranking for next week - as he has very few points to defend until Wimbledon as compared to other players just below him in the rankings he should keep in the top ten for a longer time - also Coria has a lot of points to defend from Rome (having made 2005's final) which could possibly see Gonzalez overtake him :)

Thanks for the points update Blue Orange! I can never keep up on the finer details of the rankings (let alone understand it all  ) Good to know Fena is in a good position even tho he's not playing these 2 weeks and it would be great for him to pass up Coria!

I don't know if I'm right but I guess all the points from Rome will be erased on Monday.

For Monday 1st
If Robredo reaches final of Barcelona
9 Coria 1800
10 Gonzalez 1620
11 Ferrer 1605
12 Robredo 1595

Provisional for Monday 8th
If Robredo reaches final of Barcelona
9 Gonzalez 1640
10 Robredo 1630
11 Hewitt 1595
12 Kiefer 1560
13 Coria 1465

Robredo and Coria are playing next week and could gain Points
Robredo would have to reach the Quarter Finals to overtake Fernando
Coria cannot gain a Top 10 Place on Monday 8th even if he wins Munich

So now no matter what Fernando will stay in the top ten for the next two weeks :)
