01-05-2004, 02:18 AM
I really think Carlos can do well here. Hopefully if he meets Nadal in the 3rd round he can beat him...he has to do it one day so why not start in Chennai?! :p

01-05-2004, 05:45 AM
moya has beaten nadal in the past, the head to head are 1/1 for the moment
moya will play against a qualifier on thuesday

01-05-2004, 06:01 AM
He has?!! When was that?! I thought it was 2/0 to Nadal?!

Nadal beat him in Hamburg and again the other week not that you would put that in the head to head but still? When else have they played?

01-05-2004, 06:02 AM
Ohh wait.....did they play in Umag last year?
My memory is shocking!!

Moya: “It’s never easy to play the first match of the year. It takes a while to find your rhythm.

“I started well and my serve helped me a lot. I’ve worked hard on my serve.

“If you can pick up easy points on your serve and hold your serve well you can relax a bit more on your return games.

“It was lucky that I broke his serve in the first game. That didn’t help him. I know he can play well. I guess he was a little nervous.”

01-07-2004, 09:00 PM
now he must play against Goldstein, never played before

01-08-2004, 08:03 PM
It was a very difficult match which moya won in three sets 3/6 , 7/6 (9/7) and 6/4
Moya said afterwards he was lucky to win this match, in the tiebreak he was leading with 6/2 but Goldstein came back and moya could finish this tie at 9/7
Winning such a match gave him a lot of confidence so he said

01-10-2004, 09:07 AM
easy win in the third round, 6/4 6/4
now moya will meet schalken, they have played 8 times and moya won five of it, one was on hardcourt!!!

I was fortunate enough to have this whole tourney live on TV. Goodness, there were so many Spaniards who came you would think you are transported to Spain when you are in the lounge. At least that was what the commentator said. ;)
Wow, it was Spanish fiesta alright, Carlos winning the singles and Tommy and Rafael the doubles.
After Carlos won easily against Schalken, he outserved and outplayed him throughout, I thought it would also be the same against Paradorn (esp bec he had to save 4 or 6 MPs against Tommy in the semis). But those two gave us a really good match. When Srichaphan broke Carlos twice in the 2nd set, I was anxious and more so in the third when Paradorn changed to his lucky red shirt  (He usually does that and most of the time he wins!). His first serve % slid from mid 70 (against Sjeng) to 50s in the finals. Paradorn was relentlessly attacking his BH, I think Carlos has thrice as many errors on the BH. But woohooo, he hang in there.. and voila 1st title of the year! :worship:
And Paradorn and Carlos wished each other a great year in their speeches. And that's also what I'm hoping.
