Good list.

Taylor Dent is quickly becoming an excellent serve and volleyer. Don't know if he is in the class of those you listed yet (haven't watched enough matches of his to make that judgement myself), but he's definitely close.

I wouldn't classify Federer as a serve-and-volleyer (he has an all-court game) but the others fit.

I agree with Leo

Yes, Federer's not a Serve-Volleyer but he's got some of the best volleys in the game ;) He's a natural Serve-Volleyer, but he stays back alot to so he would be classified as "All Court"

Taylor needs to crowd the net more imo....

Good list, but I'd add Kafelnikov to it, untill he is officially retired.

Taylor needs to crowd the net MORE?? i believe Taylor comes in behind 1st AND 2nd serves, + he likes to chip & charge of the return!!

Since when was Kafelnikov a serve volleyer?

Fish? Erm, he's not at the level of some of them, but he's at least as good as Taylor, no?

I was going to ask the same question.

I'd say so.... and one could argue that Taylor does it TOO much anyway.

Taylor isn't always the smartest of the bunch ;)

haha no he doesn't seem like it does he? lol but he's young I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. I'm sure he'll learn when to come in and when to stay back at some point.

I know Taylor charges to the net behind the 2nd and 1st serves, but he often hits his shot at the net and then inches back , what I meant was that he needs to STAY at the net more and anticipate his opponents next shot.
I admire Taylor's promising displays of Serve and Volley tennis, but he has yet to play to his potential...dark horse indeed! :)

I understand what you mean Kiara, that makes sense :) oh and darkhorse, TOTALLY. He basically showed that when he's playing really well, he can beat anyone. Once he puts that together for 5-7 big matches in a row, a TMS title and GS won't be far behind...

You are very optimistic about Dent's game. :)

well considering who he beat this past year and stuff, I think he's capable of winning big tourneys..... whether he WILL or not, I don't know, since he's had injury and consistency problems throughout most of 2003... but he's shown he can pretty much beat anyone when he's playing his best.

:woohoo: and so am I :).......if only he doesn't get injured everyother week :)

It's his only chance, though. He's not going to win from the baseline; his groundies are not penetrating enough and his mobility is, well...

lol yes Leo, definitely good point. I happen to like that he comes in all the time, it's something different to watch. And it works for him so it's hard to say it's bad. But I've read a few things that criticize him for coming in too much... my opinion is that even if he does a little, that's the least of his problems lol

Yeah, it's a very unique, sort of "kamikaze" style. Much like Mirnyi, who rushes the net on everything, including opponents' first serves. It will be interesting to see how far players such as these two can advance in the upcoming years.

definitely... they spice it up a little, give ya something new and different to look at once in a while :)
