Agassi in 2004!

Let's get this forum pumped up about 2004! Andre usually does best at the beginning of the year, so let's hope that amazing things are in store for him in just a matter of weeks!!!

Word is in that Andre is once again training hard in the off-season! He will be ready for Australia!

My ultimate year for Andre: Win the Grand Slam! All 4 majors! End the year No. 1! And win Monte Carlo and Hamburg to complete all 9 TMS tournaments!!! :yippee:

But now for some more realistic (but still high) hopes:

I would like Andre to win at least one more slam! His best hope is in Australia, but one of the others would be even more exciting for his resume imo!

AND I would like Andre to win the Miami TMS yet again! His record there is already amazing!

GO ANDRE!!! :worship:

Definitely. I have really high hopes for this man, and seeing him winning Wimbledon would be so wonderful. Winning Miami again is definitely a possibility.

Go Andre!

Yes, I would like to see Andre win another slam or two! And also to remain in the Top Five this year. :worship:

OK, Andre .... YOU CAN WIN IN AUSTRALIA!!!! I know he's worked hard
for this .... and allow me to dream BIG, I think he could win in Paris
too! He's put in the work, I know he will be fit! That's another good
goal for Andre, to stay in the Top Five...I would also like this for him
in 2004.

GO ANDRE!

Andre won his first round at the Siebel Open in straight sets against Labadze.

Go Andre!

Another win, this time over Moodie, 7-6(6), 6-4.

Two smaller goals for Andre this year:

1. Reach 800 career wins (he should do this in the next couple of months!).

2. Reach 60 titles (he now has 58).

GO ANDRE!!! :)

Agassi def. JM Gambill 7-6(4), 7-5.

They aren't the easiest wins, but he still hasn't lost a set at least! GO ANDRE!!! Win title No. 59!

Good luck against Fish. Btw does anyone know how many titles Sampras had overall?

MisterQ
02-15-2004, 01:53 AM
Sampras had 64 career titles. So Andre could match that, especially if he decides to play beyond this year!

But first things first, I wanna see him get to 60!

MisterQ

Andre lost to Fish in three sets.

He was apparently out of sorts emotionally, and not being the best sport.

this sucks --- wanted to see him play Roddick.

wow this has been a "ghost forum" lately. where is everyone?!

Has anyone heard any info on Andre and his hip injury that caused him to pull out of Scottsdale?

Not much to talk about when Andre is not around!

Do not know anything about this hip injury-is it the same injury he had last yr

Probably wants to prepare himself for Indian Wells, Miami etc.....

What do u think of his chances in those tournaments?

MisterQ
03-03-2004, 06:12 PM
I think he has a good shot in Indian Wells and Miami if he is healthy. Maybe he's not the outright favorite, but one of the top few picks for sure.

He only needs 7 more wins to reach 800 career wins! I hope he will come back soon and finish off that task! :)

J. Corwin
03-07-2004, 02:13 AM
And win those 7 matches consecutively as well. ;)

Go Andre:)

:wavey: Andre fans.

I have news of Andre. He usually stays at the La Quinta Resort. I was down there today to get my hair done, and Andre is there! I didn't see him, but talked to someone who had. I know from previous years that he likes staying down there because it has a practice court with the same surface as IW, and he can stay in a house which is more convenient for him.

So, I thought you all would be interested in knowing that it sounds like Andre has shown up early and is getting ready to play the tournament. :)

What do u think of Andre's chances against Federer?

MisterQ
03-19-2004, 01:38 PM
I think they haven't played enough for there to be a pattern. For example, their last three matches:

2004 Kooyong Exhibition: Agassi destroys Fed in straights
2003 Masters Cup Final: Fed destroys Agassi in straights, including a bagel in one set
2003 Masters Cup Round Robin: As close as it could get, Fed saves match points in the third set tiebreaker to win.

I think you have to give the edge to Roger because of the scope of his game, and his movement. But Roger said the other day that he considers Agassi his toughest opponent, which I found interesting. Anyway, I'm hoping it won't be a blowout, and we will see some great stuff.

800 career wins! Totally do-able! STAY HEALTHY ANDRE!
I think he can get those two other titles, too! What a career he has
had! HE IS THE MAN!

Hurray for Andre! He beat Coria in straight sets last night...what a match! Those two are a great match-up but I'm so glad Andre won! All this nonesense talk about Andre "retiring" should be RETIRED!

Aaaarrrrrgh Andre was so close in that match with Fed today. He was phenomenal in the first, then his level dropped a bit, but he was able to hang in there and survive a lot of tough situations in the third. Too bad.

well at least he put in a good showing. not a humiliation like the Masters Cup final.

A question to the Agassi fans

Sometimes dont you think that his return is not that good and that sometimes it would be better for him to just get the ball in play and not to attack so much the serve of his opponent?

I mean, in that game in the third set that would have allowed Agassi to serve for match, Federer couldnt get his first serve in and Agassi instead of getting the ball in play, jumped into Roger's second serve and netted or threw out of the court the return at least three times (maybe more).

Deboogle!.
03-21-2004, 12:46 AM
Lurker, I was out all day and walked in my room literally right at that 3-4 game you're talking about, and I actually thought something similar as well. Seemed like he had the chance and, like Andre was going for the return winner too much or something like that. But I still think he's hands down the best returner consistently, over a long period of time, that I've ever watched.

That was such a close match, I don't think Roger will ever feel 100% comfortable playing Andre. Andre proved he's still got the goods at the ripe old age of 34! I'm sure he'll make at least the QFs in Miami as well. I'd love to see him win another Masters title (or a Slam would do). :D

Good question. You're right he was missing a lot of second serve returns today, especially in that third set. But I think his strategy was right. He has to go for it when he's lucky enough to get a second serve, because the return is one of his big weapons. The last thing he wants is for Fed to take the offensive right away.

There were quite a few serves that Andre DID sort of guide back deep, without much pace...

He was just a little off his game in the second half of that match, as was Fed. Maybe the heat was a factor for both of them? ---- it was really hot out there.

Q.* Will you think about this or just try to forget it?
ANDRE AGASSI:* Well, I'll think about things I need to think about.* What I could have done possibly a little different.* You know, playing three matches at night, then all of a sudden playing in the day, the ball is moving a little quicker today.* I was struggling more than I wanted to on the second serve return.* Normally I'm pretty confident that when a guy hits a second serve, I can get into the point at least on equal terms and go from there.
Today, I gave away a lot of free points, sort of check swinging on a few of the second serve returns, which normally doesn't happen for me.* As the match goes on, you want him to hit less forehands, not more forehands.* I'll try to remember that next time.

Andre's really absorbing the info. he takes from his opponents.

I agree with Q about Andre's second serve returns.

Andre was lucky to save all those breakpoints...but unfortunately he couldn't save at least one more.

that's awesome that you will get to see Andre in St. Pölten. I hope he wins it.

by the way, I have been to Hungary (Budapest, and also Sopron near the Austrian border), and I loved it! Budapest is such a great city! and I like the language, but it's far too difficult to pick up as a tourist, lol. I just learned a few phrases... :)
