Continuing on Naldo's '2003 picture thread', it's time to start a new one! And here's the first Andy pic of 2004 . . . taadaaa! (notice that Andy is front and center in the poster :) )

Aww, sorry Naldo! I didn't know if you were going to start a new one or not. :awww:

But it's a good place to post all the normal pics we see of Andy in magazines and whatnot. :)

Haven't they flipped the pictures of some of those players?

J. Corwin
01-02-2004, 12:29 AM
That picture looks like a poster. (and it probably is)

Deboogle!.
01-02-2004, 12:30 AM
it is. it's from the Qatar Open's site http://www.qatartennis.org/men/pages/index.php :D

star
01-02-2004, 12:30 AM
Yeah, it is a poster. I think they flipped some of the players..... Grosjean, Schuettler..... to get the design they wanted. it looks a little weird.

J. Corwin
01-02-2004, 12:36 AM
yes, I do know it's from that site, but thank you Deb. lol

I also think they flipped some of the players star. It's kinda funky.

Deboogle!.
01-02-2004, 12:37 AM
what do you guys mean they flipped some of the players?

J. Corwin
01-02-2004, 12:41 AM
Like...they're not the original photo action shots. They're flipped 180 degrees on the "z-axis" (3D rotation).

star
01-02-2004, 12:44 AM
Look at their strokes.

Coria and Andy and Poo are ok. Grosjean and Schuettler look backwards. I don't think they are lefties.

Much better worded than what I came up with.

I was very impressed with the z axis whatever. I was going....... oh..... glad I didn't try to answer that. It must be all that archetectural stuff.

I was only going from my experience of putting the slides in backwards. :)

Deboogle!.
01-02-2004, 02:23 AM
oh ok I gotcha... sorry I wasn't thinking flipped, I was thinking switched and I was like why would they put someone else's head on someone else's body LMFAO I am so dumb

I won't even talk about the hat.

Some more pics from Doha

DOHA, QATAR: US Andy Roddick, who finished 2003 as the world Number one for the first time at the age of 21, speaks during a press conference in Doha where he is taking part in the Qatar Open, 05 January 2004. Roddick surprised many people by coming to the one million dollars tournament in Doha rather than go straight to Australia to prepare for the first Grand Slam of the year in Melbourne in less than two weeks time.

MisterQ

wow, he looks younger in that first picture. to me, at least.

Deboogle!.
01-05-2004, 04:42 PM
I think whenever he doesn't wear a hat, he tends to look younger. Like in those pics from the basketball game - he looked about 25 with the hat and glasses but in these pics he looks ... well maybe older than 19 (which is about what he looked at TMS Paris), maybe he looks his age, I dunno lol

but man, you can tell he worked out a lot.

Jace is too chicken to mention a body part so he prefers to watch out for Andy's game ;)

Mr Man is keeping an eye on Andy's outrageous warddrobe for more bad fashion statements :yeah:

Our Naldo has been brought to tears by athletic apparel. He has such delicate aesthetic sensibilities --- a classicist, by his own admission! ;)

I must agree, Naldo, that it is better than the cow camouflage headgear and any visor or headband that he has worn.

I'm still hoping he'll wear the outfit he wore at his charity event (the one in Naldo's avatar) at a tournament because I think that's my favorite outfit yet.

He's been wearing a lot of dark blue lately. Another intimidation-factor outfit change from Gilbert?

heya
01-06-2004, 08:08 PM
I can hit a mean ball with him -->on clay too! Bring him H20 when he rudely calls for it!

Sing & dance with him in front of Ljubicic, etc....
See, Andy doesn't need to call me up like he did for Brad...
He has so many different types of fans...isn't that sweet!? :rocker:

Havok
01-06-2004, 08:13 PM
tangerine, its an almost definite that he'll wear this outfit he's wearing in my avatar in his events. notice how it's quite similar to the one worn today, same color combo and everything, and i doubt they created that outfit just for Andy's 2 week charity blitz. the avatar outfit is one of my faves, but i must say that orange outfit kicked ass:rocker2:

J. Corwin
01-06-2004, 08:29 PM

Mr. Man

You're probably right tangerine about the dark blue clothing. Well I am glad he has new outfit. I wish he would wear orange again, like the outfit he wore at 02' AO. Orange rocks. (IMO)

You know, normally, Andy doesn't make for very attractive "action shots." He doesn't make playing tennis look easy, that's for sure. He's always got his tongue out; he's always got an intense expression on his face, etc. . . . but for some reason, I'm really liking this particular action shot. It seems to 'flow' really well. It almost looks elegant--unheard of when it comes to Andy's style of play! The way his whole body is in alignment to hit the ball . . . Am I talking crazy talk here?? I can't quite put my finger on it but I find this photo compelling for some reason. Any armchair analysts out there have a theory? :D

MisterQ

No the lighter blue.

star
01-18-2004, 10:17 PM
It's not baby blue. It's sky blue. It's as bright blue or brighter than the Crocodile shirts the French players wear.

And besides, I don't think the colors intimidate anyone. Agassi wasn't exactly tearing it up when he decided to wear all black a decade or so ago. I think the intimidation is the way a player carries himself with confidence.

Yea good color and good fit!!!

J. Corwin
01-18-2004, 10:51 PM

NALDO,

As a metrosexual trucker hatter, you really need to read this article I came across:

Trucker hats & blue collar chic

If my reader email is any indication, trucker hats have an unparalleled ability to inspire venomous rage. Personally, I just can't get past the fact that Williamsburg hipsters think it's cool to wear something my late grandfather wore (unironically) to go deer hunting in Alabama. ("Deer hunting?" she gasped, donning her camouflage trucker hat. "But that's so barbaric!) But what's even more frightening is that this is all part of a larger, more horrifying trend: Blue Collar Chic. Construction jackets, Dickies workpants ($65 at Urban Outfitters; far cheaper at Wal-mart), Pabst Blue Ribbon, and—you guessed it—trucker hats. In fact, I could probably drop said grandfather, with his trucker hat, fifth of Dewar's, Johnny Cash t-shirt and steel-toed boots in the middle of Williamsburg right now and aside from the fact that he'd complain loudly about the noise and the "fuhreigners," he'd blend in perfectly. Maybe it's trust-fund-baby guilt manifesting itself in poor but superficially egalitarian fashion choices; I don't know. But let's not pretend that's a legitimate excuse. In other parts of the country, people dress like that because they need to. And if they didn't need to, they wouldn't—most of them have better taste. [UPDATE: Anti-trucker hat t-shirts] But on to the reader responses:

(Subject line: "trucker hats and fucktards")

"I {too} hate trucker's hats. If every fucktard indie hipster can stop wearing them I would be so much happier. A greasy, skinny asshole with shitty tats and a nappy, black mullet wearing a trucker's hat is about as hot as a homeless guy eating maggots off his beard. They are everywhere in NY. Shit, a block away you can buy a blank trucker's hat and some "graffiti artist" with no street cred will airbrush some shit on it. Usually some illegible writing not unlike "I am a Vagina." [From Sterolabrat's trucker hat rant]

Today I went into City Bakery on 18th between 5th and 6th for an espresso and one of these creatures was at the next table. The above graph says it all. Lucky for him he left about two minutes after I sat.

But my rant is not about this 123lb. dipshit, it's about another annoying thing I've been watching over the last two years or so in NYC:

White girls in their early twenties who try to effect the "I'm-a-37-year-old-mom-who-lives-in-10021-and-who-shops at-Tod's-and-Bergdorf's-when-I'm-not-speaking-in-upspeak-to-my-similarly-attired-white-bread-girlfriend-about-"That boy" who-like, did-that-thing-at-so-and-so's-party?"

These girls are everywhere and especially at City Bakery. They wear lots of gingham, lots of pedal pushers, lots of kitten heels and most have bad, short haircuts and wear ill-fitting bras - and weirdly, almost all have visible panty lines! Go figure that.

You can also spot these fair maidens by their Banana Republic knock off's of Tod's shoes, Hermes Birken bags and Le Chameau rubber rain boots. They carry their totes - not their purses - in the crook of their arm and what kills me is that they all look SO fucking:

1. un sexy
2. un cute
3. matronly
4. wannabe
5. uptight...

I would much rather have the real thing, which may be found, easily, on Madison Avenue between 60th and 80th Streets, any weekday between the hours of 11am and 4pm....

Young girls: Stop dressing old and WASPY and please, start dressing cute, sassy and sexy. Even if you don't know how."

Another reader notes the L.A. equivalent: "Those goddamn Kangol softcore-pornstar, al-fresco-dining-on-a-cellphone-in-LA,
check-out-my-Juicy-Couture-sweatpants, hey-i'm-like-alicia-keys!, who-knew-my-ears-could-support-this-much-gold,
goes-perfectly-with-these-clear-canal-street-sunglasses hats are twenty times more annoying than hipster trucker hats (which, I might add, are sold for $40 at Flying A. Forty bucks! That markup must be enough to make IPO underwriters blush.)"

He was SUPPOSED to struggle thru 5 sets with GONZO despite getting many break pt. chances.
Then, the poor thing was gonna make Dent a victorious hero.
That Memphis match revealed a great deal about Andy's game, I'm SURE. :o

The wrist injury/long fatigue period after the Younes match had nothing to do with it.
